Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for operating an X-ray gene radiation detector with a pixel matrix made of amorphous silicon zium, one based on the incident X-rays the Prixelmatrix arranged scintillator layer and one planar light source arranged behind it.
Such large-area X-ray detectors, often also X-ray panels are known to come from X-rays directions for use and serve to radiation images object, usually a patient, in the As part of a mostly medical examination or therapy to record. Using the image acquisition system, also the X-ray detector are heard, from which the Untersu X-rays penetrating the object, which are output on a monitor, for example. For Conversion of the incident on the X-ray detector X-rays in visible radiation serve a pre switched scintillator layer, the view generated by this Bare radiation then strikes the semiconductor layer amorphous silicon and generated in those trained there Image pixel charges from a downstream Ausle be read out. The behind the semiconductor layered light source serves for the back set the individual pixels of the pixel matrix as part of the pre preparation of the x-ray detector for one to be carried out Image acquisition. That from the areal light source at which it is usually a diode array Light penetrates the semiconductor layer and can thus on the act on the front formed pixels and these on bring common charge level.
In investigations, it has now been found that the scintillator optically coupled to the semiconductor panel layer shows an afterglow behavior, which adversely affects itself lig can affect the image acquisition, both in the through lighting mode when many images are acquired per second as in single image mode. The reason for this lies far the physical processes that occur when an X-ray quanta run off in the scintillator. The emission of Light from an X-ray scintillator happens in that an electron of the scintillator material through an X-ray quantum is raised from the valence band into the conduction band. At the This electron falls back into a recombination center in the Valence band becomes light one from the energetic distance of the Va lenzbands and the conduction band certain wavelength emit animals. Since this process takes place without external influence, calls you give him spontaneous emission. However, not all fall into that Conduction band of raised electrons immediately in valence band-side recombination centers. Rather, one is thrilled corresponding part in the band gap between the line and the Valence band caught traps in which electrons can stay for a while nen. Such traps or traps are inevitable and represent energy states within the band gap that at example of lattice defects of the scintillator crystal or but pollution and the like are caused. Norma Usually, charge carriers located in traps recombine in the subsequent period, but this takes a long time men can. This quasi uncontrolled recombination that too then takes place when the pixel matrix has already been read out and a second picture is taken, causing the subsequently captured image so-called afterimages or Image artifacts of the previously captured image, e.g. B. in the form the outlines of the previously recorded structure become visible can.
The invention is therefore based on the problem of a method indicate how this afterglow diminishes and the image Improved the quality of pictures taken in succession can be.
To solve this problem is a method of the beginning named type provided in the invention according to success ter pixel of an x-ray image read out and then at least one on the scintillator layer acting light pulse is given by the light source, by means of which to reduce afterglow of the Scintillator layer a stimulated charge recombination tion is stimulated.
It has surprisingly been found that the light of the areal light source that is actually used to reset the Pixel matrix is provided which is capable of being traps capture electrons to recombine. This ef fect is called photo-stimulated luminescence. The stimulati one takes place through the acting light of the light source what causes the electrons to be lifted out of the traps and then recombine with the holes in the valence band kidneys. The energy states in the band gap, i.e. the detention places are specifically discharged, so that a large part of the here unwanted trapped electrons stimulated and targeted recom binieren, whereby an uncontrolled, to an indeterminable Pure combination occurring at the time, which for the disadvantageous leads to afterglow, can be largely avoided. The scintillator layer is after each reading of the Pixelma trix and thus before each new image capture in correspond properly prepared and in terms of imprisonment place existing load carriers quasi "unloaded" so that due to an uncontrolled load carrier recombination evoked image artifacts in a subsequently recorded no more or hardly disturbing image.
The duration of the z. B. in Form of a diode array, which, for example, red light emitted with a wavelength of approx. 650 nm The light pulse should be dependent on the reset light array at least 20 µs, in particular at least 50 µs and preferred be 100 µs. The longer the duration, the more Load carriers can be lifted out of the detention areas and taken to the Re combination can be excited, for example, 100 µs have proven to be sufficient. It has been considered expedient proved to be when two or more separate light pulses be given in quick succession.
To be as targeted and direct as possible only those in the detention centers Exciting located charge carriers can according to the invention the intensity and / or the spectral bandwidth of the light pulses the energetic requirements of the scintillator layer to excite the charge in detention areas carrier adapted. The energy levels of the detention centers in the Energy band between the valence and conduction bands can in a known manner after generating the scintillator layer be approved, so that they can be lifted out of custody put required energy from the light pulse into the szin tillator is entered, can be determined. Corresponding can then adjust the intensity and / or spectral bandwidth of the generated light pulse can be adjusted.
As described, the area light source originally serves to reset the pixel matrix that it emitted According to the invention, light is now also used to prepare the scin tillator layer used. In order for both processes with a ge common "light quality" can get along according to the invention be provided that the intensity and / or the spectral Bandwidth of light emitted by the light source Art is chosen so that it can be used to edit the scintilla gate layer as well as the pixel matrix can be used. It a kind of combination light is used, which without special variation for both preparation steps can be set. It is important to ensure that the light must penetrate the semiconductor material from behind, from the is weakened, and only then on the scintillator layer meets.
According to the invention, a light in the red spectral range emitting light source can be used. Alternatively can also emit light in the green spectral range source are used, which leads to even better suggestions fect leads, because the energy of the in this case on the Szin tilator layer impinging photons is higher. Alternatively for this it is also conceivable to use an infrared spectrum rich to use because their light goes deeper into the scintilla gate layer can penetrate. As a usable scintillator material can be CsI (cesium iodide), preferably with Tl (Thalli um) doped, or gadolinium oxysulfide, preferably with Tb (Terbium) or Pr (praseodymium) doped.
In addition to the method, the invention also relates to an X-ray gene radiation detector, with a pixel matrix made of amorphous silicon zium, one based on the incident X-rays the pixel matrix arranged scintillator layer, one there behind arranged area light source as well as the Operation controlling control device, which consists of is formed that after taking an X-ray image and reading the pixel matrix to generate the light source at least one light acting on the scintillator layer Pulse is controlled by means of which to reduce the After the glow of the scintillator layer a stimulated La manure recombination is stimulated. Finally, the invention relates to a method of operation such an X-ray device, which is characterized by records that first by means of the image recording system Image of an object under examination and the Pixelma trix is read, and that at least one on the scintile lator layer acting light pulse by means of the light source ge is given, by means of which to reduce afterglow tens of the scintillator layer a stimulated charge carrier recombination is stimulated. As described, controlled by the control device 5 , generates light by means of the light source 14 , which light serves, on the one hand, to reset the pixel matrix 12 that is read in its information content. This light emitted by the light source 14 also serves, however, also to excite charge carriers trapped in the scintillator layer 10 in detention points for stimulated recombination and to specifically discharge these detention points in order to prevent this otherwise accidental discharge process from occurring at an uncontrollable time, which can lead to an unwanted afterglow and thus to unwanted image artifacts in a picture taken later. For this purpose, the intensity and the spectral bandwidth of the light emitted by the light source are preferably adapted in accordance with the energetic requirements for lifting the charge carriers from the adhesion points of the scintillator material. The light must penetrate the detector elements located between the light source 14 and the scintillator layer 10 , that is to say the glass carrier 13 , the pixel matrix 12 made of the amorphous silicon semiconductor material and the passivation layer 11 . Since the light emitted by the light source 14 serves both for "discharging" the scintillator layer 10 and for resetting the Pixelma trix 12 , it should be selected in terms of its intensity or spectral bandwidth in such a way that it is without variation on the part of the control of the individual diodes 15 can be used for both processes. The light source 14 , which is designed as a diode array, can be one that emits in the red or in the infrared spectral range or else in the green spectral range.
Fig. 3 shows in the form of a timing diagram, the processes in the preparation for image acquisition, the image acquisition itself as well as the readout process. The upper line indicates the essential preparation or reset, recording and readout steps, while the lower line specifies the steps to be carried out as part of the preparation and reset of the pixel matrix. In the diagram shown, the pixel matrix is first prepared and reset, for which purpose the register in the detector is first initialized. The pixel matrix is then reset by activating the light source 14 via the control device 5 and generating a corresponding reset light pulse, then the individual pixels are reset electronically so that after preparation and resetting, the charge carrier levels of all pixels are essentially the same.
The X-ray radiation is then applied to the X-ray detector in the X-ray window, that is to say the recording of the X-ray image, after which the readout step follows, in the course of which the image-related information content of the individual pixels of the pixel matrix is read out via the control device 5 and the readout electronics 16 .
In the next step, the scintillator layer is reset. For this purpose too, the light source 14 is controlled via the control device 5 in order to generate a short, generally approximately 100 μs light pulse. This light, which penetrates the glass support 13 , the pixel matrix 12 and the passivation layer 11 and strikes the scintillator layer 10 , causes the charge carriers trapped in the detention points to be lifted and stimulated to recombine as described, and the detention points are thereby discharged. This light pulse can be given several times in succession in order to repeat the stimulation process several times and to largely discharge all traps. It is important that the resetting of the scintillator layer, ie the application of the light pulse, takes place after the complete readout of the pixel matrix, since a reset light pulse given too early would falsify the information stored in the pixels that may not yet be read out.
After the scintillator layer has been reset, the renewed preparation and resetting the Pixelma trix in the manner described above, after which another X-ray genotype can be recorded.
