Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a magnetic paste for the production of planar Inductors with a carrier mass in which a lot number of soft magnetic magnetic particles is embedded.
Such a magnetic paste is for example from the US-A-3,798,059. In the known magnetic paste the magnetic particles are made of a ferrite. The ferrite Particles are included in a carrier made of epoxy resin embedded hardener. To measure a Ma on a circuit board the magnetic paste is screen printed method printed on the circuit board. Then will the magnetic paste between a half to a whole Cured for an hour at a temperature of 150 ° C.
A disadvantage of such a magnetic paste is that it is low Permeability. Therefore, a lot of space is required to be on one PCB a magnetic area with high inductance to deliver. However, the space required for this is common not available because the components are on a circuit board te should generally be densely packed.
The invention is based on this prior art based on the task of producing a compact magnet areas with high inductance suitable magnetic paste create.
This object is achieved in that the magnetic particles are made of a soft magnetic alloy.
Soft magnetic alloys often have one higher permeability than ferrites. So it is possible with a magnetic particle made of a soft magnetic alloy Magnetic paste containing magnetic areas of high inductivity in a confined space. Although the individual Ma magnetic particles have metallic properties and therefore are electrically conductive, there is no fear that the out the magnetic area produced magnetic area overall elec is trically conductive, and that through such magnetic areas Conductor tracks are short-circuited. So it's not nope tig, between a magnetic area and a conductor track Provide insulation layer. In general, the natural is enough che oxide layer on the metallic magnetic particles and the carrier mass present between the magnetic particles in order to isolate the magnetic particles from each other.
Further advantageous embodiments and refinements are included in the dependent claims.
Es zeigen:The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the beige added drawing explained. Show it:

Fig. 1 shows a magnetic particle 1 , which is suitable for a re producible for the manufacture of planar inductors on printed circuit boards magnetic paste. The Ma shown in FIG. 1 gnetteilchen 1 is made of a magnetic film of an amorphous or nanocrystalline alloy. Amorphous iron-based alloys are known, for example, from US-A-4,144,058. Amorphous soft magnetic alloys based on cobalt are described, for example, in EP-A-0 021 101. Nanocrystalline alloys finally emerge from EP-A-0 271 657. Magnetic foils with thicknesses d in the range between 15 and 25 µm can be produced from the amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys. The magnetic foils produced in this way are then comminuted by a conventional comminution process, for example by grinding in a ball mill. Since the magnetic foils made of the amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys are brittle, there are fissured fractured surfaces 2 which have sharp edges 3 . The magnetic particles 1 thus produced thus have on the one hand egg ne relatively flat top 4 and bottom 5 , which are delimited by sharp edges 3 . The magnetic particle 1 shown in FIG. 1 has dimensions a which are greater than the thickness d of the original magnetic film. On the flat top 4 and the flat bottom 5 there is generally an insulating oxide layer or silicate layer, through which electrical currents through the magnetic paste are prevented, in particular when using the part 1 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 2 shows another magnetic particle 6 which is suitable for the magnetic paste and which is produced from a magnetic film. The external dimensions a of the magnetic particle 6 are smaller than the thickness ke d of the original magnetic film. The magnetic particle 6 it is kept by long grinding a magnetic foil in a ball mill and sieving the coarse fraction. In contrast, the magnetic particle 1 from FIG. 1 is obtained by short-term grinding in a ball mill and sieving of the fine fraction.
To produce the magnetic paste, the flake-shaped magnetic particles 1 or 6 are mixed with a carrier mass 9 to form a magnetic paste. One or two-component resin compositions based on epoxy, polyurethane or silicone are particularly suitable as carrier compositions 9 .
Of particular importance is the flow behavior of the carrier mass 9 used . Fig. 3 shows a cross section through an applied to a circuit board 7 magnetic area 8 , which has been formed with the help of the magnetic particles 1 containing Magnetpa ste. If the carrier mass 9 has a high viscosity, there is no sedimentation process after the magnetic paste has been applied to the printed circuit board 7 , so that the magnetic particles 1 remain unaligned. Therefore, no pressure may be exerted on the magnetic area 8 from FIG. 3, since otherwise the sharp edges 3 of magnetic particles 1 lying one against the other will push through the insulating layers formed on the upper side 4 and the lower side 5 and in this way an electrical contact between produce adjacent magnetic particles 1 so that the magnetic region 8 becomes electrically conductive as a whole.
However, if the carrier mass 9 has a low viscosity, the magnetic particles 1 tend to stack flat on each other. This results, on the one hand, in a high degree of filling of magnetic particles in the magnetic area 8 , so that the magnetic area 8 has a high permeability overall. On the other hand, the flat superimposed magnetic particles 1 do not damage the insulating layers formed on the upper side 4 and the lower side 5 of adjacent magnetic particles 1 , so that despite the contact of adjacent particles no overall conductive magnetic region 8 is formed. In addition, the magnetic area 8 of FIG. 4 can be loaded with pressure before curing, without the Magnetbe rich 8 being electrically conductive. Compression of the magnetic particles 1 in the carrier mass 9 is thus possible, which further improves the magnetic properties of the magnetic region 8 .
Also applies to a magnetic paste made from the magnetic particles 6 that a magnetic area made from this magnetic paste will only become electrically conductive if the magnetic area is subjected to a high pressure before curing, because in general the fracture surfaces 2 form Magnetic particles 6 quickly after grinding a new oxide layer. This oxide layer on the fracture surfaces 2 is very thin, but nevertheless sufficiently thick to ensure the isolation of the magnetic particles 6 from one another. If the build-up of an oxide layer is too slow due to the material property of the magnetic particle 6 for the manufacturing process, it is possible to accelerate the build-up of an oxide layer by a tempering treatment in air.
In general, however, the volume fraction of magnetic part Chen 1 or 6 should not exceed 50% in the magnetic paste used to produce the magnetic area 8 . Otherwise there is a risk that the magnetic areas become electrically conductive even without the application of external pressure.
In order to determine the magnetic properties of a magnetic paste produced from the magnetic particles 6 , rod cores were produced from this magnetic paste. For this purpose, finely ground ne magnetic particles 6 with a diameter <10 microns made of a nanocrystalline alloy with the composition Fe 81.9 Si 8.7 Cu 1.3 Nb 5.6 B 1.5 Mo 1 were used. An epoxy resin was used as the carrier mass. The volume fraction of the magnetic particles 6 in the magnetic paste was 50%. The rod cores made from the magnetic paste were wrapped with ten turns of a conventional copper wire. The result of the measurement of the inductance of these rod cores is shown in FIG. 5 using the measurement curves 10 to 12 . The measurement curve 10 was measured on a small rod core with the dimensions 1 cm × 1 mm × 50 μm. The measurement curve 11 was recorded on a central rod core with the dimensions from 1 cm × 1.5 mm × 50 μm. The measurement curve 12 was finally measured on a large rod core with the dimensions 1 cm × 2.5 mm × 50 μm. From Fig. 5 it can be seen that the A L values are about 1 nH to 2 nH. The A L values are the inductivity values based on the square of the number of turns, so that L = A L .N 2 , where N is the number of turns.
With the magnetic paste, magnetic areas with an initial permeability µ between 5 and 50 can thus be produced. Depending on the specific resistance of magnetic particles 1 or 6 and the isolation of magnetic particles 1 or 6 from one another, the eddy current cutoff frequency is between 10 MHz and 500 MHz. The eddy current cutoff frequency depends essentially on the electrical conductivity of the magnetic particles 1 or 6 . By ei ne additionally applied to the magnetic particles 1 or 6 insulating layer, in particular the eddy current limit frequency can be shifted to higher frequencies.
The magnetic paste containing the magnetic particles 1 or 6 is suitable in particular for the production of multilayer printed circuit boards on which a large number of components should be densely packed, and which have little space for passive components, in particular for bulky inductors.
The production of multilayer printed circuit boards is generally mean before themselves that initially on a so-called core Traces are formed. Then on the Core laminated on both sides and ver with the core presses. The laminates are generally not fully cured epoxy plates, however shortly after pressing on the core completely are hardened. Now on the outside of the laminates usual etching process, conductor tracks formed as well Vias between the conductor tracks on the core and the interconnects on the outside of the laminate poses. After completing these steps, he can new laminates on the outside of the previous laminates be pressed on and so multilayer printed circuit boards be put.
In Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a single laminate 13 is shown. These are generally epoxy plates that are connected to one another to form a multilayer printed circuit board. For the sake of simplicity, only a single laminate 13 is shown in FIG. 6. On the La minat 13 there are components 14 which are connected by a conductor 15 . The conductor track 15 can be made of copper in a conventional manner, for example. The magnetic region 8 is applied directly to the conductor track 15 and forms an inductance assigned to the conductor track 15 . Since the magnetic area 8 is not electrically conductive, no insulating layer between the metallic conductor track 15 and the magnetic area 8 needs to be provided.
The conductor track 15 is produced in a conventional manner by exposing a photoresist applied to the laminate 13 and after the following etching processes. The magnetic region 8 is then formed on the laminate 13 using the screen printing method. For this purpose, it is advantageous if the carrier mass 9 has tixotropic properties, so that the magnetic area 8 does not melt after printing. Then the Magnetbe rich 8 is cured.
In a modified manufacturing process, an external magnetic field is applied to the magnetic area 8 before the magnetic area 8 hardens, in order to align the magnetic parts 1 or 6 in this way. Depending on the orientation of the magnetic particles 1 or 6 , the hysteresis loop assigned to the magnetic region 8 is sheared to a greater or lesser extent. It is also possible in this way to form preferred directions for magnetization in the magnetic area. This is particularly possible if the magnetic particles 1 have an elongated shape. If the magnetic particles 1 or 6 lie flat on top of each other, there is a high initial permeability. However, this high initial permeability can be reduced by placing the magnetic particles 1 and 6 on by applying an external magnetic field. The magnetic properties of the magnetic region 8 can thus be adjusted even after the application to the laminate 13 .
In a further modified production method, the magnetic field used for aligning the magnetic particles 1 or 6 in the magnetic region 8 is generated by a current flowing through the conductor track 15 . In this manufacturing process, the magnetic particles 1 or 6 align themselves in the magnetic area 8 so that the magnetic flux through the magnetic area 8 is maximized.
It is of course also possible to separate the magnetic area 8 from the conductor track 15 . As shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, it is possible, for example, to guide the conductor track 15 in sections on another laminate level and to establish the connection between the laminate levels via vias 16 . Since it is then no longer a question of the electrical conductivity of the magnetic region 8 , such magnetic regions can contain a volume fraction of magnetic part 1 or 6 with more than 50%.
Conversely, because of the high insulation strength of the magnetic area 8, it is possible to guide the conductor track 15 in a loop-shaped, meandering or spiral manner in order to increase the inductance of the conductor track 15 in this way. Such an embodiment is shown in FIG .
Three-dimensional windings can also be produced without great effort due to the high insulation strength of the magnetic area 8 . Fig. 11 shows an embodiment in which the magnetic field is annular 8 and the conductors 15 together with the vias 16 form a magnetic coil around the portion 8.
If the inductance formed by the magnetic area 8 has to be adjusted, for example to set a resonance frequency to a predetermined value, the adjustment can be adjusted by subsequently removing parts of the magnetic area 8 . By means of a laser, parts of the magnetic region 8 can be evaporated, for example. Another possibility is to achieve a shear of the hysteresis associated with the magnetic area 8 by making cuts in the magnetic area 8 .
Due to the volume fraction of magnetic particles 1 or 6 in relation to the carrier mass and by the size of the magnetic particles 1 or 6 , the height of the inductors which can be reached with the magnetic region 8 can be adjusted within certain limits. With higher densities of the magnetic particles 1 and 6 and with larger dimensions of the magnetic particles 1 or 6 , higher re permeabilities can be achieved. On the other hand, the eddy current cutoff frequency decreases with increasing size of the magnetic particles 1 and 6 . A low eddy current cut-off frequency can, however, be quite advantageous when using the magnetic region 8 in chokes to suppress undesired frequency components.
Finally, it should be noted that the use of amorphous or nanocrystalline soft magnetic magnetic particles chen 1 or 6 magnetic areas with low mechanical sensitivity and very high energy density can be produced. The high mechanical strength due to the low magnetostriction is particularly important if the magnetic area 8 is pressed with a laminate 13 during the manufacture of the multilayer printed circuit boards.
