Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for coupling a fibrous Optical fiber to an optical component in which the optical Component is positioned on a base body and the fibrous Optical waveguide in a tube in the direction of the optical component is performed, which is attached to a support body and a method for Adjustment of the fiber-shaped optical fiber compared to the optical Component with the help of the device.
Optical components can include solid-state lasers, optical switches, optical resonance circuits or other in the technology of "Integrated optics" components or other optical fibers his. The optical fibers must be as low-loss as possible with input or Outputs of the optical components are coupled. For Ensuring an optimal transmission quality with low Transmission loss is a very precise spatial adjustment of the Optical fiber relative to the optical components required.
Such a device is described in DE 195 36 185 A1, the fibrous optical fiber is firmly clamped on one side, while the other part facing the optical component can be resiliently deflected is designed. By adjustable support body, which is transverse to the longitudinal axis of the Optical fiber are arranged, there is a deflection of the fibrous Optical fiber.
The known devices have the disadvantage that they are difficult machinable materials are executed and expensive welding equipment require. In addition, there is often one associated with the welds Welding delay on. Due to the materials used with Different temperature coefficients occur with temperature deviations a coupling adjustment, which is associated with high transmission losses is.
The invention has for its object a device of the beginning mentioned type for coupling fiber-shaped optical fibers to a Specify optical component in which all parts are compact and miniaturized are arranged in the smallest space and the Manufacturing effort is low.

The support body is formed by an angle that such is connected to the base body that the vertical leg opposite one end face of the base body is arranged and on a web, which is arranged on the front side of the base body, is supported and by 2 Screws is connected to the base body such that it is in one small angular range can be changed by the value 0. The horizontal one Leg runs parallel to the surface of the Basic body and points on the top in the direction of the optical Component a groove for receiving the tube with the fibrous With the method and use of the device according to the invention an uncomplicated and permanently stable adjustment of the fibrous Optical waveguide relative to the optical component may be possible.

According to the invention this is achieved in that the optical component is positioned on a fixed base and the fibrous Optical fiber in a tube (ferrule) in the direction of the optical Is guided component, the tube being held on a support body, the at two at different angles perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the Optical fiber extending directions and in the direction of the longitudinal axis is deflectable. The horizontal one Leg runs parallel to the surface of the Basic body and points on the top in the direction of the optical Optical fiber on. Parallel or at a slight angle to the horizontal A pressure plate is arranged by means of 2 pressure screws, which fixes the pipe in the groove. The pipe is with that Optical fiber, which is fixed in the front area of the tube with this is connected, displaceable in the groove in the longitudinal direction. The angle points along the bending axis a slot that is in the bending axis or in whose immediate vicinity is, whereby the horizontal leg in the area of the slot has a lower bending strength and one leaf spring clamped on both sides is comparable. The mounting holes in the vertical leg have a larger diameter than that Fixing screws so that the angle in relation to the base body can be moved in two directions in parallel.
The adjustment of the fibrous optical waveguide compared to the optical Component takes place according to the invention in two steps.
A rough adjustment is made in the longitudinal direction of the optical waveguide (z Axis) in that the tube with the one held in it Optical fiber in a groove on the support body, against a certain Stiction, which is generated by a pressure plate, towards the optical component is moved. After a rough adjustment the tube by tightening the pressure screws between the pressure plate and the groove in the support body is non-positively fixed.
A rough adjustment in the plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the Optical waveguide is made in that the angle relative to the Basic body in two directions, by taking advantage of the game between the Diameter of the holes and the diameter of the Fastening screws, is moved in parallel. After done The vertical leg becomes rough adjustment in the x-axis and the y-axis the angle by tightening the fastening screws against the Base body fixed.
Fine adjustment in the y-axis is done by tightening the Pressure screws, causing a deflection of the horizontal leg in the area of the slot underneath the groove and thus the Tube with the optical fiber in the groove is effected.
The fine adjustment of the optical fiber in the x-axis is carried out by "Tilting" of the vertical leg of the angle over the web that is on the The face of the base body is arranged by alternating tightening or loosen the mounting screws, causing a deflection of the Angle and thus the tube with the optical fiber in the groove becomes.
The fine adjustment of the optical fiber in the z-axis is carried out by rectified tightening or loosening of the fastening screws for the vertical leg of the angle, causing a deflection of the angle and thus the tube with the optical waveguide in the groove is effected.

The optical component 3 , which is to be optically coupled to the fibrous optical waveguide 1 , is positioned on a fixedly mounted base body 4 , while the fibrous optical waveguide 1 is guided in a tube (ferrule) 2 in the direction of the optical component 3 . The tube 2 is in turn supported on a support body which can be deflected in two directions (x, y direction) running at different angles perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the optical waveguide 1 and in the direction of the longitudinal axis (z direction). The support body is formed by an angle 5 , which is connected to the base body 4 such that the vertical leg 51 is arranged opposite an end face 41 of the base body 4 and on a web 10 , which is arranged on the end face 41 of the base body 4 , supports. The angle 5 is connected to the base body by two screws 9 in such a way that it can be tilted in a small angular range around the value 0 relative to the end face 41 of the base body 4 . The mounting holes 55 in the vertical leg 51 have a larger diameter than the mounting screws 9 , so that the angle 5 relative to the base body 4 in two directions (x, y direction) can be moved in parallel. To fix the vertical leg 51 of the angle 5 to the base body 4 there is a fastening plate 7 between the heads of the fastening screws 9 and the angle 5 , the fastening screws 9 advantageously having countersunk heads, while the holes in the fastening plate 7 correspond to the screw diameter and have no phase , whereby the static friction between screw heads and mounting plate 7 is kept low. Instead of the mounting plate 7 , washers can also be used. The horizontal leg 52 of the angle 5 extends parallel to the surface 42 of the base body 4 and has a groove 53 on the top in the direction of the optical component 3 for receiving the tube 2 with the fiber-shaped optical waveguide 1 . Parallel or at a slight angle to the horizontal leg 52 , a pressure plate 6 is arranged by means of two pressure screws 8 , which fixes the pipe 2 in the groove 53 in a force-locking manner. The tube 2 is connected to the fibrous optical waveguide 1 , which in the front region of the tube 2 , for. B. is firmly connected by gluing with this, in the groove 53 in the longitudinal direction (z direction). The angle 5 has a slot 54 along its bending axis, which is located directly in the bending axis or in the immediate vicinity of the bending axis, as a result of which the horizontal leg 52 in the area of the slot 54 has a lower bending strength and thus the effect of a leaf spring clamped on both sides having. The fastening holes arranged in the pressure plate 6 have no phase, while the fastening screws 8 preferably have countersunk heads, as a result of which the static friction between the screw heads and the pressure plate 6 is kept low. The pressure plate 6 and the tube 2 have a higher bending strength than the horizontal leg 52 of the angle 5 in the region of the slot 54 .
The base body 4 is arranged on a Peltier element 11 for temperature stabilization, the temperature of the base body 4 being determined by means of a temperature sensor. The Peltier element is in turn arranged directly on a base plate 12 .
The components of the device according to the invention such as base body 4 , angle 5 , pressure plate 6 , mounting plate 7 and base plate 12 are preferably made of easily machinable material or using commercially available parts or semi-finished products. In order to keep the effects of temperature differences on the device as low as possible, materials are used which have the same or approximately the same temperature coefficient.
The method for coupling a fibrous optical waveguide 1 to an optical component 3 is described in more detail below.
The fibrous optical waveguide 1 , which is guided in a tube 2 (ferrule), is held in the longitudinal direction (z-axis) at an approximately optimal distance from the optical component 3 between the horizontal leg 52 and a pressure plate 6 , the tube 2 in a groove 53 of the horizontal leg 52 is arranged and can be fixed via the pressure plate 6 by means of the fastening screws 8 . A longitudinal adjustment of the tube 2 in the groove 53 makes a rough adjustment in the z-axis.
A rough adjustment of the optical waveguide relative to the optical component 3 in the plane perpendicular to the fibrous optical waveguide 1 (x-, y-axis) takes place by aligning the vertical leg 51 of the angle 5 , by utilizing the play between the diameter of the bores 55 , 56 in vertical leg 51 and the diameter of the fastening screws 9 , in both transverse directions of the optical waveguide, fixing being carried out when the fastening screws 9 are tightened by the non-positive connection of the angle 5 to the web 10 on the base body 4 .
The fine adjustment of the optical fiber in the y-axis is done by tightening the pressure screws 8 , which causes a deflection of the horizontal leg 52 in the middle between the pressure screws 8 , due to its action as a leaf spring, and thus the tube 2 with the fiber-shaped optical fiber 1 in the groove 53 is effected.
The fine adjustment of the optical waveguide in the x-axis is carried out by “tilting” the vertical leg 51 of the angle 5 above the web 10 by alternately tightening or loosening the fastening screws 9 , thereby deflecting the angle 5 and thus the tube 2 with the fibrous optical waveguide 1 is effected in the groove 53 .
The fine adjustment of the fibrous optical waveguide 1 in the z-axis is carried out by tightening or loosening the fastening screws 9 for the vertical leg 51 of the angle 5 in the same direction, thereby deflecting the angle 5 and thus the tube 2 with the fibrous optical waveguide 1 in the groove 53 is effected.
The adjustment of the fiber-shaped optical waveguide 1 relative to the optical component 3 does not require any additional elements for fixing the settings and can be easily changed.

- - Fine adjustment of the fiber-shaped optical waveguide ( 1 ) in the z-axis by tightening or loosening the fastening screws ( 9 ) for the vertical leg ( 51 ) of the angle ( 5 ) in the same direction, thereby deflecting the angle ( 5 ) and thus the tube ( 2 ) with the fibrous optical waveguide ( 1 ) in the groove ( 53 ).
