Derarti Ge elements are z. B. in optical transmitters ver applies that for power control of the transmitter with a so-called called monitor unit are equipped. For many applications gen, it is desirable that the output power of a Usually designed as a laser diode transmitter e.g. B. possible of temperature fluctuations and aging effects as constant as possible.
In this context, the older German Pa tent registration with the official file number 197 35 925.6 ei ne optical transmission device in which an optical element in the form of a lens body between the emission zone of a optical transmitter and the reception zone of a monitor unit on the one hand and a coupling zone for a coupling part ner on the other hand is arranged. The lens body is on ner the side facing the coupling partner with an optical effective zone provided as the partially reflecting border layer is formed. Part of the emit from the transmitter Radiated radiation (part of the useful radiation) passes through the lenses body and its optically effective zone and comes to the coupling zone, while a coupling zone reflecting The proportion of the radiation emitted via the lens body to the reception area.
An optical element of the type mentioned is based on the EP 0 786 838 A2 and comprises an optically active zone, which part of the radiation striking it to the side of the Radiation origin reflected. The zone is part of one Beam splitter, which has a proportion of the emitted radiation throws back a monitor unit that is on the same side as the transmitter is arranged. The beam splitter can be ent speaking roughening of a housing window can be realized. Basically, according to EP 0 786 838 A2, partial reflection by diffraction or scattering at the beam splitter. In in any case requires the realization of partial reflection additional components and / or a complex surface action or surface coating. Such treatments or coatings pose problems with adhesion stability and cause correspondingly increased manufacturing costs.
reflektierenden optischen Elementes, das äußerst einfach her
ße bzw. geometrische Gestaltung der totalreflektierenden Be
The object of the invention is to provide a partially reflective optical element which is extremely simple to manufacture and which can advantageously be an integral part of a lens body which is required anyway.
This object is achieved in the case of an optical element of the type mentioned at the outset by a large number of totally reflecting regions which are arranged distributed over the zone and which in each case fully reflect parts of the radiation
An essential aspect of the element according to the invention is thus that the effective optical surface or optical table, at which the desired partial reflection takes place, is divided into areas that at least partially transmit the incident radiation, and in singular areas that radiate the total reflect. A uniform distribution (fine screening) of these areas allows a very uniform transmission or reflection over the zone. A major further advantage of the invention is that the number, distribution and / or size or geometric design of the total reflecting areas allow easy and reproducible adjustment of the desired reflectance.
An advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the completely reflecting areas are formed by prismatic elements. The prismatic elements can advantageously bring about a multiple total reflection, so that a very precise reflection of part of the incident radiation is achieved, which is directed in the same way for all areas.
A particularly preferred manufacturing technology embodiment of the invention is that the fully reflective areas are formed by prismatic elements.
Another technically advantageous design of the Invention provides that the element is molded from plastic and the completely reflective areas in the form process are generated. This configuration allows a special low-cost realization of the partially reflective self shafts of the element without additional coating or Shaping steps are required.
Ausführungsbeispiele der Erfindung werden nachfolgend anhand einer Zeichnung weiter erläutert; es zeigen:Exemplary embodiments of the invention are described below a drawing further explained; show it:
OF INVENTION to the invention the optical element,
Fig. 2 einen Ausschnitt aus Fig. 1 und Fig. 2 shows a detail from Fig. 1 and
Fig. 3 in high magnification a section of another optical element.
Fig. 1 shows the beam path of an outgoing from an optical Sen 1 radiation 2 , which is divided with the help of an optical element 3 into a useful radiation portion 4 and a reflected portion 5 . The useful radiation 4 passes through a coupling end face 7 into an optical waveguide 8, which is indicated in the illustration. The transmitter 1 can be formed as a vertically emitting laser with an emission zone 10 . Instead of the optical waveguide 8 , another optical or electro-optical element (converter element) can of course also be seen as an optical coupling partner. The portion 5 reflected on an optically active zone 11 of the element 3 , as explained in more detail below, reaches the optically sensitive surface 12 of a monitor diode 14 . In the exemplary embodiment shown, a symmetrical arrangement of transmitter 1 and monitor diode 14 with an axisymmetric beam path is shown. Of course, deviating radiation paths are also realizable, as is shown, for example, in the older German patent application mentioned above with the official file number 197 35 925.6.
The monitor diode 14 is used in a manner known per se to control the output power of the transmitter 1 and in particular to compensate for temperature-dependent and / or age-related changes in power.
Damit gelangt der be
The (coupling-side) interface of the element 3 facing the optical waveguide 8 is designed as a partially reflecting optically active zone 11 in that a large number of totally reflecting areas is provided,
The enlargement of section A shown in FIG. 2 shows a single one of the totally reflecting regions 20 , which is formed as a truncated pyramid or truncated cone 22 from the material 24 of the element 3 or webs can be formed, which are arranged concentrically to the lens axis. These webs can have a cross section which corresponds to the shape shown in FIG. 2. A small portion 2 'of the Sen of 1 (Fig. 1) radiation emitted is reflected 22 b and 22 c further times at the first boundary surface 22 a of the elevation 22 a first time and existing at the further boundary surfaces to the outside air interfaces. Thus the considered section 2 'of the emitted radiation comes back completely (totally reflected) as part 5 ' to the side S of the transmitter 1 or the monitor diode 14 . The reflected radiation portion can advantageously (again) be formed on its way back through the element 3 .
The element 3 has a first lens-like side 3 a for beam shaping of the emitted radiation 2 .
A design variant of the optical element 39 is further explained using a greatly enlarged section of the element in FIG. 3. Fig. 3 shows two totally reflective areas 40 , 41 , which are formed as pyramidal or cone-shaped elevations 42 , 43 made of the material of a lens body 45 . The refractive index n 1 of the lens body is chosen relative to the refractive index n 2 of the medium adjacent to the interfaces 40 a, 40 b or 41 a, 41 b (for example ambient air) such that total reflection occurs at the interfaces 40 a to 41 b .
In addition to areas 40 , 41 , areas 50 , 51 and 52 are provided which are completely permeable to the emitted radiation. Radiation components 55 thus pass through the optical element 39 unhindered, while in regions 40 and 41 total reflection of the respective radiation components 56 takes place in a directional manner (ie here, for example, parallel) to the side S of the radiation origin.
Advantageously, by means of a correspondingly fine distribution (rasterization) of the totally reflecting regions 40 , 41 and by their proportion or geometric shape, a desired division ratio of useful radiation 55 to reflected radiation 56 can be set in a very fine and uniform manner.
