Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for the recovery of metals from Pro zeßlösungen that in the surface treatment of metals, especially in the Electroplating and in ablative processes such as pickling, etching, burning and. a., but also in the processing of metal-containing residues from chemistry, metallurgy and Environmental technology accumulate and which interfere with cations of the dissolved metals or enrich the foreign metals. Due to this metal enrichment such process sol solutions only have a limited service life or absorption capacity.
The periodically required replacement of such baths is very expensive gen linked, both for the replacement of the chemicals used and for the um world-wide processing or disposal of used process solutions. Finally, such processing and / or disposal with remaining order linked to global pollution, be it from the landfill of metal-containing Sludge, be it due to salt loads in the wastewater.
B. DE 195 06 832, Me talloberfläche 50 (1996) 273). Therefore, processes for the regeneration of such process solutions are increasing proposed and applied. By retardation and electrodialysis procedures ge succeeds e.g. B. from used pickling solutions to recover excess pickling acids and enrich the metal ions in a metal salt solution to be removed. Dar by suitable methods, the metals as hydroxides or in metallic Form can be recovered. For pickling solutions for copper and noble materials Metals can acidic process solutions directly in undivided metal recovery cells are regenerated with the regression of the pickling acids. Using of sulfuric acid peroxodisulfate pickling solutions are processes for the regeneration of exhausted pickling solutions are known, in which in divided cells the cathodic dissolved copper in the form of copper powder separated, discharged and recovered and in the pretreated pickling solution as it passes through the anode compartments Pickling agent peroxodisulfate is regenerated on platinum anodes (e.g. DE 195 06 832, Me tallfläche 50 (1996) 273). With this peroxodisulfate recycling process, the half a complete cycle closure on recovery of both the redeemed Metals, as well as the regeneration of pickling chemicals possible. Environmental pollution can be reduced to a minimum and it is good economy accessible, since the electrolysis current is practically double used anodically and cathodically can be.
With the metal powder deposition used in this process In addition to copper, noble metals such as silver, pla tin metals and gold can be recovered directly. Base metals such as B. zinc, nickel, Cobalt, iron, manganese, chrome and a., the z. B. as alloy components in Kup ferrous materials in addition to copper in the pickling solutions or which prove to be unsuitable Enrich desired contaminants in electroplating baths in this way acidic process solutions cannot be recovered directly. Mostly they are Metals are precipitated and recovered as hydroxides. But it is also a recovery Metal can be used if a previous neutralization or adjustment of a direct cathodic deposition of the metal in question required pH is made. In both cases, however, there is again a high level of chemicals need and there is a waste water with a large neutral salt load.
After an electrodialysis process described in DE 44 08 337 is a wipe Protection of metals from electroplating baths and pickling baths possible in that Elek trodialysis cells with porous plastic diaphragms that have 5 to 10 mm wall thickness and have a pore diameter of 4 to 10 microns, are used and the anodes spaces from the process solution to be regenerated, the cathode spaces from an alkali is flowed through solution, whereby the electrochemically transferred metals as Hydroxides are precipitated. In this process too, dosing of Alkali in the catholyte cycle which is necessary for the precipitation of the metals in question pH adjusted. The hydroxides can be via a separate filter led cycle are separated and recovered. Even with this procedure So the disadvantages of recovering the metals only as hydroxides and Consumption of alkalis exists for neutralization.
The invention specified in claim 1 addresses the problem, from Pro zeß solutions of surface technology and metal chemistry without prior neutralization the excess acid also metals, which are less noble than copper, if necessary in addition to copper and noble metals, to be deposited and withdrawn in metallic form win.
With the method set forth in the claims, this problem is solved by the fact that a stationary catholyte over the cathode spaces of a separator at least in two parts recycling electrolysis cell and an external separating device is promoted in the circuit and in this circuit an acidic process solution with such a metering rate It is fed in that the pH value required for cathodic deposition of the metals contained therein is maintained in the stationary catholyte and this at current densities of 0.05 to 0.5 A / cm 2 and flow velocities along the cathode between 0.05 and 0 , 5 m / s in the form of metal powder deposited on the cathode surface, discharged with the revolving catholyte and separated and recovered in the outer separator. The metals that are less noble compared to copper, such as nickel, cobalt, iron, zinc, chromium, manganese, etc., can be deposited either alone or together with the nobler metals, such as copper, silver, palladium, platinum, gold and others.
A particular advantage of this method is that the anode spaces are the same early for the recovery of acids and / or for the anodic reoxidation of oxides tion and pickling agents can be used by the process solutions are flowed through, e.g. B. process solutions to be regenerated in surface technology, such as pickling or electroplating solutions that come directly from the treatment bath via the An ode rooms of the recycling electrolysis cells and from there back into the bathroom be while he only to maintain the desired pH required partial stream of this process solution is fed into the catholyte circuit. The partial stream depleted in metal cations can then either be removed or returned in the process bath or in the anolyte, depending on the requirements of an optimal Litigation.
Anion exchange membranes can advantageously be used as separators become. This allows both the excess free acid and the Metal deposition released acid directly by converting the anions into the an depleting the floor space and thereby recovering it. Either the is transferred Amount of acid enriched in the anolyte and this acid returned to the process or it is fed directly back into the process solution fed in as the anolyte.
Another advantage is that the cathodic reduction of higher quality metal cations in a low-value form and by their deposition in metallic Form also released complex-bound anions and through the anion exchange membrane can be depleted. The latter is for example with hydrofluoric acid containing pickling solutions for stainless steels. Complex to the iron III ions bound hydrofluoric acid is released and can also be recovered the.
Porous diaphragms with a thickness of 0.2 to 10 mm can also be used as separators and a pore diameter between 0.1 and 10 microns can be used. Next the transfer of anions into the anode compartment also leads to an ab enrichment of cations in the anode compartment. The entry of recoverable Metallka then not only takes place through the metering of process solutions in the Circulated stationary catholytes, but also through the transfer tion from the anode compartment to the cathode compartment.
The use of cation exchange membranes can also be used for a number of Applications can be beneficial. In this case, there is no depletion tion of anions by transfer from the anode compartment, but the larger the Metal ion entry. In this case, the reduction of the excess and through the cathodic deposition of metals liberated acid by transfer ka metal cations that cannot be deposited. A sufficiently large amount Excess acid can be secured above all if the Anolyte has a high content of salts of alkali metals, ammonium and others in aqueous solution, metal cations cannot be deposited cathodically in metallic form contains. The latter can, above all, salts of alkaline earth metals, aluminum, Titans, the Lanthanide and other base metals.
Such a procedure using cation exchange membranes is particularly necessary if anodically generated oxidants or are regenerated because anion exchange membranes usually do not work against them are sufficiently resistant to oxidation. So oxidation-resistant cation exchange shear membranes e.g. B. advantageous with anodic regeneration of peroxodisulfate ent holding pickling solutions with high levels of sodium sulfate can be used. By the transfer of non-cathodic sodium ions and cathodic Protons can be deposited without excess acid in situ To neutralize the addition of alkalis and thereby to separate the redeemed Adjust the required pH value of metals or acidic process sol solutions to be adhered to stably.
In process solutions with a large excess of free acids, it can also be from Be advantageous to deplete and recover some of this free acid Feeding into the cathode compartment of the recycling cell by known methods such as To achieve retardation, electrodialysis or diffusion dialysis. It is to achieve to achieve sufficient current yields in metal deposition Reduce excess acid so far that the ratio of anion equivalents to that of the cation equivalents is 1 to 2: 1.
Such a depletion of an excess of acid which is too great can also directly in The recycling electrolytic cell itself can be made by one or more Intermediate chambers are arranged, against the anode and cathode chambers and abge against each other by anion, cation and / or bipolar membranes are limited. This enables a combination of electrolysis and electrodialysis become the better compared to separate electrodialysis and electrolysis cells Allows use of the electrode processes with lower overall power consumption light.
With the simultaneous presence of copper and / or nobler metals in addition to less noble ones According to a further feature of the invention, it is advantageous for metals to be used the acidic process solution in a metal recovery cell To collect and recover the bulk of the nobler metals before they enter the Catholyte circuit of the recycling electrolysis cell for cathodic separation of the un noble metals is dosed. The metal recovery cell used for this can be undivided or divided. When using an anion exchange membrane NEN divided cell with separately flowed through anode spaces, the transfer of Anions in the anode compartment can also be used to remove the excess Break down acids and thus more favorable conditions for the separation of to create less noble metals in the cathode spaces of the recycling electrolysis cell.
The principle of the method is to be explained in more detail using the simplified method diagram in FIG. 1, which represents one of several possibilities for realizing the inventive concept. From the pickling bath 1 exhausted pickling solution enriched with the dissolved metals is conveyed by means of the circulation pump 2 through the anode compartments 4 of the recycling electrolysis cell 3 and via the gas separator 5 back into the pickling bath. In the regeneration electrolytic cell, depending on the pickling solution used, an oxidizing agent, e.g. B. a peroxodisulfate or ferric sulfate can be generated or regenerated. Via the cation exchangers 6 used as separators, metal cations dissolved in the pickling solution are transferred into the cathode compartments 8 . By means of the circulation pump 7 , a stationary catholyte is circulated through the cathode spaces and the separating cyclone 9 . The separating cyclone also serves as a gas separator for the cathodically formed hydrogen. Acid is depleted in the catholyte circuit through the transfer of cations and the separation of hydrogen. This causes the pH to rise and the dissolved metals to separate. Under the selected flow and potential conditions, the metals separate out in the form of metal powder and who transfers them with the catholyte to the separating cyclone. By metering in a partial stream of the exhausted pickling solution by means of the metering pump 10 into the catholyte circuit, the pH required for metal deposition is maintained in the circulating, stationary catholyte. With the pump 11 , a partial stream of the catholyte containing the metal powder is pumped back through the filter 12 into the separating cyclone. The metal powder separated in the filter is discharged into a storage vessel 13 and from there it is recycled. The part stream of the pickling solution fed into the catholyte circuit and the transfer of water from the anolyte into the catholyte lead to an increase in volume in the catholyte circuit. In the variant shown, the volume is equalized by the overflow back into the pickling bath. But a return directly into the suction line for the Anolytdosie tion (suction side of pump 2 ) is possible.
In a pilot plant according to FIG. 1, an exhausted persulfate demetallization solution for plastic parts coated with chemically nickel was regenerated. In addition to nickel, this solution also contained small amounts of palladium and especially copper. The deposition of the majority of these metals, which can be recovered directly from the acid solution, was carried out in addition to the cathodic reduction of residual amounts of peroxomonosulfate by pretreatment in a metal recovery cell divided by means of anion exchange membranes. At the same time, the excess of free sulfuric acid was reduced to 44 g / l via the anion exchange membrane.
A partial flow of the solution pretreated in this way with a residual copper content of 0.3 g / l and a nickel content of approx. 20 g / l was directly in the anode compartments of a Peroxodi sulfate regeneration cell fed, a partial stream was metered into the catholyte, by means of a circulation pump via the cathode compartments and the outer separating cyclone in the Cycle was carried out. The overflow from the catholyte circuit also came in the anode rooms of the peroxodisulfate recycling cell and was made there using platinum ode enriched with peroxodisulfate. The peroxodisulfate recycling cell consisted of two bipolar series cells with graphite cathodes and platinum foils oden of the type as described in DE 44 19 683. Was electrolyzed with a current of 300 A per single cell.
The volume flow of the solution fed into the catholyte circuit was thus adjusted gulates that in the steady state with simultaneous nickel powder the sulfuric acid was depleted to about 10 g / l. This depletion was carried out by neutralization using the sodium ion transferred from the anode compartment with simultaneous cathodic hydrogen evolution. That in the fed Pickling solution contained and that through the cation exchange membrane in the Katho The nickel transferred to the room was shot at the cathode in the form of metal powder the. By periodically briefly increasing the flow rate of the When the catholyte was running, the metal powder was discharged into the separating cyclone. The Metal powder settling there was with a small partial flow of the catholyte continuously extracted and recovered via a filter. The filtrate was returned to the catholyte circuit.
In the stationary operating state, a catholyte dosage of 7 l / h was found Sulfuric acid concentration of approx. 10 g / l and a residual nickel content of approx. 5 g / l. About 150 g / h of nickel were removed as metal powder.
