Der Duftschaum selbst besteht aus Seifenwasser mit einer Beimengung eines beliebigen Duftstoffs, der einen angenehmen, vorzugsweise frischen Geruch verströmt. Der auf der Wasseroberfläche stehende Duftschaum verhindert nicht nur unangenehmen Geruch sondern auch das Aufspritzen des Wassers beim Benutzen der Toilette und wird danach mit dem Spülwasser weggespült.
