Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a ceramic passive electronic component with a ceramic sintered body made of a ceramic material and a coating the ceramic sintered body.
So z. Ceramic passive electronic components such. B. ceramic actuators, sensors, multilayer capacitors, such as those used in microelectronics, are usually produced by the mixed oxide process from oxides or carbonates. The starting materials such. B. PbO, TiO 2 , ZrO 2 or BaCO 3 , TiO 2 are weighed into the desired stoichiometry. After an intimate mixture of the raw materials, the starting compounds are reacted at temperatures of 900-1100 ° C to form the complex oxides such as e.g. B. PbZr x Ti 1-x O 3 or BaTiO 3 . The powder obtained in this way is crushed in subsequent Malil steps. The powder is then provided with a binder, poured into the form or pressed and then sintered at 1100-1300 ° C. The ceramic sintered body obtained in this way is polycrystalline and generally has a residual porosity of a few percent by volume. The sintering process, combined with grain growth, leads to the sintered bodies obtained having a surface roughness which is of the order of the grain size. The surface roughness of the ceramic obtained is unsuitable for many applications. So z. B. high surface roughness is unsuitable when using such Kerami ken as substrate materials for thin film processes. In addition, the residual porosity can result in holes or microcracks on the surface that are undesirable for certain applications. As an example, moisture-sensitive electroceramics such as dielectrics such. B. BaTiO 3 ceramics or piezoelectric such. B. PbZr x Ti 1-x O 3 called. Here, moisture can penetrate into the interior of the ceramic via the porosity and impair its properties. Another example is microcracks on the surface, which act as nuclei for breakouts and thus impair the mechanical strength of the ceramic. As a third example, ceramic substrates are mentioned that have to meet certain requirements for surface roughness that cannot be obtained from conventional sintered bodies.
To solve the above problems, the ceramic passive electronics components are provided with a thin layer that the ceramic sinter planarize body, show good adhesion to the ceramic body, moisture are permeable, no formation of micro cracks with layer thicknesses of approx. 2-5 µm show, withstand mechanical loads to a certain extent and prefer to relatively low temperatures can be deposited.
Many coating materials and coating methods are known. Organic Coatings of various compositions and properties can be deposit at relatively low temperatures, but have the disadvantages that they do not are resistant to chemical attacks and mechanical loads. Organic Coatings usually show a significantly lower scratch resistance inorganic coatings. In addition, the adhesive strengths of such organic Coatings are usually a few megapascals. H. orders of magnitude below half the internal tensile strength of the layer material and the ceramic material.
In contrast, inorganic coatings have a high scratch resistance and are resistant to the effects of moisture and many chemical compounds. However, such coatings as. B. oxidic coatings from z. B. glass or ceramic deposited at relatively high process temperatures of about 500-900 ° C. During the cooling process, the system is exposed to extremely high mechanical stresses when the expansion coefficients of the ceramic and the layer differ significantly. In general, this is almost always the case and has resulted in the fact that only relatively thin inorganic layers (<1 µm) can be deposited without problems. Typical coatings in which thin layers are deposited on a substrate differing expansion coefficients z. B. the deposition of Ta 2 O 5 , TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 layers on z. B. a material with a low expansion coefficient such. B. quartz glass. Typical deposition processes are e.g. B. wet chemical processes such. B. Sol-gel process or vacuum process such. B. sputtering or chemical vapor deposition. In addition to the problem of crack formation, the adhesion of the layers to the substrate is of great importance. Depending on the substrate and the coating used, only physical or chemical bonds are formed between the layer and substrate, so that in some cases only low adhesive forces are formed.
It is therefore the object of the present invention, a ceramic passive electronics cal component with a ceramic sintered body made of a ceramic material and to provide a coating on the ceramic sintered body that does not have the disadvantages mentioned above.
According to the invention the object is achieved in that the coating on the kerami sintered body consists of the ceramic material. By adapting the Coating material to the ceramic material of the sintered body with respect to chemi cal composition and expansion coefficient, it is possible to fine-grained, on the To form sintered ceramics, locally epitaxial layers. So that becomes a optimal adhesion of the layer to the sintered ceramic is achieved. The adhesive strengths are identical table with the internal breaking strength of the pure material. Continue this way achieved that the layers have the same coefficient of expansion as the sintered ceramics and thus stresses and stress cracks, even when depositing thicker Layers can be prevented at high temperatures. Surprisingly, too found that the process temperatures for producing the coating were much lower are as if the coating was shot on a substrate of a different composition that would.
Another advantage of the invention described here is the increased breaking strength of ceramic bodies which are provided with the layer according to the invention. Breaks or Openings in ceramic bodies arise in the vast majority of cases due to microcracks on the surface of the body, which develop under mechanical stress reproduce inside the body. Depending on the type of microcracks, the fracture can occur strength of a sintered body are significantly impaired and leads to the manufacture of ceramics such as B. ferrites or multilayer capacitors to high failures the production and operation of the components. In the kerami according to the invention 's passive electronic component, it has surprisingly been found that not only surfaces can be coated evenly, but that with the Coating material also existing micro cracks on the surface are filled and thus heal completely. As a result, the ceramic coated in this way passive electronic components compared to uncoated ones many times over increased breaking strength.
In the context of the present invention, it may be preferred that the ceramic passive electronic component is a multilayer capacitor.
It can also be preferred that the ceramic passive electronic component is a Actuator is. Ceramic multi-layer actuators serve due to their high deflection when applying an electrical field as a mechanical component in inkjet printers.
Then the functionality of such ceramic piezoelectric actuators can be obtained if these are used directly for use in inkjet printers These structured piezoelectric components need to come into contact with ink an insulation layer. An insulation layer is required for the application protects the piezoelectric component especially when used with aqueous inks, because when the ceramic multilayer actuator comes into contact with aqueous ink when a DC field an electrolysis on the Pd / Ag electrodes of the ceramic multilayer actuator he follows; Due to the electrolytic processes, silver migration takes place a short time to a short circuit of the piezoelectric component. To this On the one hand, organic coatings are used to solve the problem. You have at the disadvantage of all these applications is that they become damp after long periods of operation show uptake and thus after a certain time the processes described above expire anyway. Inorganic coatings show a much higher resistance to about the effects of moisture if they are dense and show no cracks. The Deposition of oxide layers, such as. B. glass, but has the disadvantage that the Expansion coefficients of the substrate differ from those of the layer and Crack formation, especially when thick layers of 0.5-1 µm are formed entry. This problem can be solved in that the coating from the same ceramic material as the multi-layer actuator, which makes it dense Layers are obtained which show no cracking and hermetic moisture form barriers.
It can also be preferred that the ceramic passive electronic component is a coil. Magnetic insulation layers are very important for coils. Ceramic coil cores consisting of ferrite materials such as. B. (Mn x Zn 1-xy Fe y Fe 2 O 4 are nowadays provided with an organic coating for insulation. However, this has the disadvantage that the coatings show moisture absorption after longer operating times. This problem can be solved according to the invention if Instead of an organic coating, an inorganic coating is used which, due to the same expansion coefficients of the layer and ceramic materials, leads to dense, homogeneous layers which do not show any cracking Similar structural structure, but with different conductivity compared to the magnetic sintered ceramic but with a similar coefficient of expansion and fine-grained morphology. As magnetic thin-layer materials with low conductivity in this invention, for example, magn Etische layers of the compositions Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 or Ni 0.15 Zn 0.5 Fe 2.35 O 4 deposited. In this inventive way, it is possible to deposit a magnetic sintered ceramic with high electrical conductivity without cracks on the ceramic sintered body by a locally epitaxial layer of lower conductivity and high resistance to chemical attacks.
In the context of the present invention, it may also be preferred that the kerami passive electronic component is a ferrite ceramic for a video head.
In addition to increasing the breaking strength can be applied by applying the Invention layers, the tribological properties of ceramic sintered bodies are also positive influence. In particular, the abrasion resistance of the surface and the glide ability called on other materials. The use of Ferrite ceramics in video heads, where the video tape slides on the ceramic during operation. As is known, the problem of belt abrasion arises because of excessive roughness the head surface and a noise ("rubbing noise") in the video signal. This can be solved according to the invention in that the ferrite is identical to a layer Is provided composition that smoothes its surface and thus less Rubbing and noise causes, but without the reading and writing of the Video tape to lose necessary magnetic properties.
It can also be preferred that the ceramic passive electronic component is a thin-film component and the ceramic sintered body is a substrate. For the manufacture of thin-film chip capacitors or modules consisting of ceramic passive electronic components such. B. resistors, capacitors and coils, however, substrates with a lower surface roughness than that which is used in conventional thin-film chip resistors are required, since with high surface roughness the thin-film capacitors are short-circuited with dielectric thicknesses of approx. 50 nm-1000 nm . To reduce the surface roughness and planarization of the substrates, oxide layers such as Al 2 O 3 , MgO-ZrO 2 , PbZr x Ti 1-x O 3 , BaTiO 3 are doped with x = 0-1, lanthanum in the invention described here PbZr x Ti 1-x O 3 , BaTiO 3 x = 0-1, BaTiO 3 and Ba x Sr 1-x TiO 3 layers by means of thin layer processes, preferably by means of a wet chemical process such as. B. Sol-Gel method on substrates such. B. Al 2 O 3 , or MgO, or Y 2 O 3 or CaO stabilized ZrO 2 sintered ceramics. By using low deposition temperatures of 400-700 ° C, very fine-grained layers with crystallite sizes smaller than 100 nm are deposited on the ceramic substrates. It is particularly unexpected that these layers grow fine-grained on the substrate crystallites and thus cause the ceramic substrates to planarize. By depositing a layer material with a composition that corresponds to the substrate material and thus the same expansion coefficient, it is possible to deposit planarization layers with thicknesses of 0.2-2 µm that do not show any crack formation.
The invention also relates to a method for producing a ceramic passive electronic component with a ceramic sintered body made of a ceramic Material and a coating on the sintered body made of the ceramic material which the coating is produced in a sol-gel process.
By using a sol-gel process it is possible to make layers with very small To produce grain size (10 nm-100 nm). It can be used for coated ceramic Produce sintered bodies with very low surface roughness. Using this Coating processes allow micropores and microcracks in the sintered ceramic fill up and thus hermetically seal the surface. Through the sol-gel process ren, it is also possible to use a large number of ceramic sintered bodies with the corresponding To coat coating material.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments.
So z. As a production method for a ceramic passive electronic component with a ceramic sintered body made of a ceramic material and a coating on the ceramic sintered body, the coating consisting of the ceramic material, methods are preferred in which the locally epitaxial layers are deposited at low temperatures and extremely fine-grained layers can thus be obtained. Wet chemical processes are preferably used as processes, such as. B. Sol-gel process, modifications of the sol-gel process or also MOD (metallo-organic decomposition) methods in which oxide layers are deposited at low temperatures of 400-700 ° C. Different deposition processes and different raw material systems are selected depending on the type of ceramic sintered body, its dimensions and structure. So z. B. the spin method is preferred for the deposition of oxide layers on ceramic substrates. Solutions of low viscosity, preferably sol-gel processes or modified sol-gel processes, are preferably used here. Serve as raw materials for one-component oxide layers such. B. Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , MgO metal alcoholates, which show hydrolysis and condensation processes. These are in organic solvents such as. B. Alcohols dissolved. For the deposition of multi-component systems such as B. PbZr x Ti 1-x O 3 serve z. B. metal alcoholates of tetravalent ions as raw materials and carboxylates such as. B. acetates as raw materials for the divalent ions such. B. lead. All of these raw materials are in organic solvents such as. B. dissolved methoxyethanol. In addition to these relatively moisture-sensitive raw materials, less moisture-sensitive substances such as. B. carboxylates of longer-chain carboxylic acids such. B. ethyl hexanoates, octates, neodecanoates for the divalent ions and β-diketonates and metal alcoholates, which have been stabilized with β-diketones or other complexing agents, are used for the higher-valent ions. Organic compounds such as z. B. butyl acetate or alcohols. Since these compounds hardly undergo hydrolysis and condensation processes, they have to be thermally decomposed after the deposition and are therefore referred to as MOD (metallo-organic decomposition) raw materials.
In addition to these various organic raw material systems, depending on the combination composition of the layer inorganic raw materials such. B. chlorides and nitrates dissolved in aqueous or organic solvents such. B. water, butyl acetate, N, N-dimethyl formamide can be used to deposit oxide layers. Sol-gel and modified Sol-gel raw materials serve as a compound that runs through hydrolysis and condensation steps preferred for coating ceramic sintered bodies with oxidic Layers using centrifugal or immersion processes. The MOD raw materials as well as the anorga African raw materials are preferred for the deposition of oxide layers by spray proceed z. B. using commercially available spray guns or using Ultrasonic atomization process applied to substrates.
These wet chemical deposition processes, in which oxidic layers are already very low deposition temperatures are formed, deliver very fine-grained layers that z. B. for planarization of ceramic sintered bodies. In addition to the wet chemical deposition process, other thin-film processes can also be used ren such as B. chemical deposition from the gas phase can be used.
