Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for expanding granular material by thermal Treatment and an apparatus for performing the method, wherein it is the pellet to be expanded is preferably layered silicate.
It is known to first granulate minerals, in particular silicates, then the granules to bloat and the expanded material obtained as an insulation material or additional building material in construction industry to use. The materials are expanded by heat treatment in special ovens intended for this purpose.
Both horizontal and vertical furnaces are used for this purpose arrangements for use, the heat required to expand the material of Burners are preferably supplied with fossil fuels.
So in a company brochure of MANDOVAL LTD (Issue 4, May 1995) one device described on a rotary kiln. In one to its discharge de slightly inclined and rotated against the horizontal The material to be expanded is inserted into the pipe. At the end of the pipe end at which the task of the material is done a burner is arranged. The one with oil or gas operated burner is arranged so that the flame is directed into the interior of the tube or its combustion gases flow into the pipe and thus the pellets to expand required heat is supplied. After leaving the rotary tube, the bloated Material is fed to a vertically arranged and also rotating setting chamber, to separate them from the fine dust and the gases generated during the process.
The use of burners with fossil fuels, such as oil or gas, is considered after to look at in parts. The process energy is created by burning these fuels Air creates. However, this means that atmospheric oxygen is burned during the process. Due to the composition of the air from predominantly atmospheric oxygen (approx. 21 vol%) and Nitrogen (approx. 78 vol%) also becomes nitrogen unnecessarily with every combustion warmed, with the risk of nitrogen oxide formation. So it results from this Approach an unnecessarily high energy expenditure and an emission risk potential. Also the considerable amounts of gas required to inflate the material are energetically considered a disadvantage. Furthermore, it is considered disadvantageous that at this and other similarly working devices introduce energy into the material dosing is very imprecise and not temperature-homogeneous for the entire treatment room can be set. The result is poor quality and additional effort after-treatment of the material.
From DE 31 51 164 a device is known in which pearlite, vermiculite and the like Lich granular material to be expanded in a vortex shaft. It is a vertical arrangement according to the teaching of the document. At the A burner is provided on the underside of a fluidized bed shaft which is open at the bottom, whose flame and combustion gases are fed to the shaft. Surrounded by the Burner nozzles have an inlet pipe through the burner. Through the introduction tube, the expanded material is introduced into the fluidized bed shaft using a carrier gas, wherein the fluidized bed by the inflowing carrier gas and sucked in via a fan is trained. In a separation downstream of the discharge from the fluidized bed shaft The expanded material and the resulting gases are separated from each other.
A disadvantage of this arrangement is the not inconsiderable mechanical stress of the material as a result of the turbulence. The thermally treated and inflated Material has a filigree structure, so that the mechanical stress as it already by air transport and the associated frictional effect on pipes, Edges, corners etc. is given, to a quality reduction or even destruction of the fili granular structure can lead. The mechanical load also increases the Dust content or the density of the treated material and thus the additional effort for the not thermal aftertreatment.
The invention has for its object to provide a method with the granulate material can be expanded particularly efficiently through thermal treatment and to provide an apparatus for performing the method.
According to the invention the object is achieved in that in a method for bloating granulated material by thermal treatment in a vermiculator the granulate moves only through the action of gravity through the vermiculator and during its essentially vertical direction, along a heated surface movement due to simultaneous action of heat conduction, convection and Radiation is heated in shock.
In the sense of the method according to the invention, the heated surface on which the Granules moved along, electrothermally heated. The volume increase of the particles of the pellets to be expanded is according to the invention by the regulated entry Electrical energy determined.
It is to be regarded as particularly advantageous if the grain size of the Granules to achieve the conversion temperature required energy input as dis Crete value is adjustable, d. that is, the regulation of the amount of energy entered is so fine can be made that the wall necessary for the respective particle size lung temperature can be set as precisely as possible.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the method, the vermicu an air flow directed against the movement of the granulate. In this way, better heat transfer to the granules through convection reached.
In addition, it is an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention Process flow arising water vapor against the downward flow of the Discharge granules.
In a device suitable for carrying out the method, which as Vermiculator is formed and which consists of a thermally insulated casing enclosed chamber, a heat source, one at the top of the chamber seen feed device and a material arranged on the underside of the chamber output funnel, the heat source is an electrically heated chute system trained and the feeder is a distribution device, by which the granulate fed to the vermiculator via the feed device on the Chute system is guided and brought into contact with it, so that the bloat de material as it descends to the hopper with the heat source is brought into heat-conducting contact.
It is within the meaning of the invention if the chute system acts as a flat heating conductor is trained in the direct conversion of electrical energy into heat he follows.
A possible embodiment of the device according to the invention is also in one Training seen in which the chute system as an arrangement of several electrical supplied heat conductor is formed, the heat conductor also flat or in Wire shape are formed. With this training, the individual heating conductors are invented According to the invention advantageously either in its entirety or in groups in one Series connection interconnected with the required power supply.
It is within the meaning of the invention if the surface coming into contact with the granulate surface of the chutes is directly heated. A particularly good heat transfer is through Given heat conduction. But also indirect heating of the chutes, for example by encapsulating the heating conductor, is to be regarded as in the sense of the invention, insofar a good heat transfer is ensured.
To protect the chutes against scaling and abrasion, they are according to a further education of the invention on its surface with a thin non-metallic layer Mistake. Of course, this layer must be designed so that it through the No heat conduction transition between the chutes and the granules unduly affected. Of course, there is a slight impairment of heat Unavoidable line here, however, this measure is advantageous in that the service life of the chutes increases significantly. As particularly suitable for this purpose, a layer of silicon carbite can be seen.
To force an air flow directed against the direction of movement of the granulate mung is according to a further embodiment of the device according to the invention the upper area of the device with a suction fan in operative connection brought.

The invention will be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment. Based on the possible embodiment of the device according to the invention shown schematically in FIG. 1, a brief explanation of the method should also be given.
The figure shows the most important elements of the device. The heat treatment of the granules, for example a layered silicate, takes place in a chamber 1 which is enclosed by a wall 7 which is thermally insulated from the outside. The layered silicate granulate is fed to the chamber 1 via a feed device 2 . A distribution device 3 is arranged directly below the feed device 2 . By means of this distributor device 3 , the layered silicate granulate is distributed to a chute system 4 . According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the chute system 4 is designed as a flat, electrically heated heating conductor or as flat heating conductor arrangements. Due to the force of gravity, the silicate granules independently move through the chamber 1 in accordance with the indicated transport direction 8 to an output hopper 6 arranged on the underside of the chamber 1 and serving to remove the finished material. The granulate slides along the heated chutes 4 and experiences a shock-like heating as a result of the effect of heat conduction, convection and radiation, which leads to the desired increase in volume due to the inflation of the material. The thermal energy required for this is obtained directly by converting the electricity supplied from the power supply into thermal energy. In a chill system 4 formed from a plurality of heating conductors, the heating conductors are either all or group-wise connected in series with the power supply 5 for this purpose. In industrial practice, due to the not inconsiderable current consumption, a group-wise connection of the heating conductors will be advantageous. For example, the chutes 4 could be divided into three switching groups, the elements of which are connected to one another by a series connection. In smaller systems for a trial operation, a series connection and connection of all heating elements with a power supply 5 is also possible. Based on the conversion energy requirement of the silicate, for example, a test plant with a total plant output of 130 kW was implemented. Since the conversion energy required in the individual case is of course also dependent on the grain size of the granulate, there is a need to design the energy supply to be adjustable accordingly. Here, the electrical heating of the chutes 4 proves to be particularly suitable to meet this requirement. For this purpose, the power supply can advantageously be designed so that the current required to generate the necessary amount of heat can be set as a discrete, that is to say almost precise, value. The degree of volume increase can also be adjusted particularly well in this way.
The chutes 4 of the device are preferably made of high temperature resistant steel. Due to their large surface area and the close contact given when the material slides down, good heat transfer is achieved by a large proportion of heat conduction, this effect being significantly favored by a distribution of the chutes 4 in the upper and lower regions of the vermiculator. However, due to the granules sliding down the chutes 4 due to scaling and the removal of the surface, problems also arise with regard to the service life of the chutes 4 . It has therefore proven to be advantageous to protect the surface of the chutes 4 with a thin additional layer and to accept the associated slight deterioration in the thermal conductivity. Appropriate dimensioning of the layer thickness and selection of an appropriate material can minimize its adverse effect on heat conduction. Silicon carbide is an example of a possible layer material.
An additional improvement in heat transfer can be achieved by reinforcement the proportion of the amount of heat transferred to the granulate by convection.
Such an improvement is achieved by forcing an air flow in the chamber 1 which is directed against the downward movement of the material to be expanded. For example, this can be achieved in that the chamber 1 is brought into an operative connection in its upper region with a suction fan, not shown in the schematic arrangement shown in the figure.
