The The invention relates to a method for nondestructive detection of Material state in components, in particular for the determination of Creep damage, with the features according to the preamble of claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to a device to carry out of the procedure.
Zur Vermeidung von Schadensfällen ist daher in vorgeschriebenen Intervallen eine Überprüfung des Werkstoffzustandes nötig.at technical objects, e.g. Boilers, pressure vessels, Pipelines, fittings and the like, which for long periods stresses e.g. thermal and / or mechanical nature, mechanical / technological change in many cases Characteristic values of the material of which the components consist. components in power plants and process plants are often subject to one long-term mechanical stress at elevated temperature. Under these Operating conditions learns the material over time characteristic changes to damage (Creep damage) of the structure. The cadence damage manifests itself first in Form of individual pores on the grain boundaries that grow in the course of further operation to store together pore chains and cracks. Strikes this cadence damage gone unnoticed, so can one suddenly and unexpected failure of the component occur. to Avoidance of damage is therefore a check of the material condition at prescribed intervals necessary.
The destructive exam Time-stressed components are nowadays carried out by outpatient metallography according to DIN 54150. In this method, using a special Foil a negative impression of the microstructure generated at a location of the component surface to be examined. Under the microscope, the structure state can be determined on this impression be assessed.
The Fabric impression methods is not free from disadvantages. It requires a lot of work, there at the test center the component surface first a polished surface must be generated. by virtue of The selective application is also on a component a variety from testing centers provided. A major disadvantage is that only one Statement about the damage directly on the component surface possible is what to possibly fatal misjudgments to lead can.
Out For this reason there are intense aspirations, the possibilities for the flawless proof of creep damage on components to expand. So it is already known, for the detection of cradle damage to measure the speed of sound of the material on a component. This is based on the knowledge that comes from numerous theoretical and experimental work was obtained, according to which a cradle damage to a decrease in the speed of sound in the material leads. at a known, in the testing process, this Phenomenon (VGB conference "Restlebensdauer 1992" 6/7 July 1992, Mannheim Volume 2, Vortr. 21), a component is seated by a component surface Ultrasonic transducer with a series of ultrasonic pulse packets with a frequency of at least 2 MHz impressed. The determination of the speed of sound takes place by measuring the transit time of each individual ultrasound pulse packet via a known route. The ultrasonic pulses are conducted along the component surface.
Also this test method does not yet provide satisfactory results. At the admission along the component surface let yourself in this way the speed of sound only for the uppermost boundary layer of the Determine component, since the penetration depth of the vibration impressed on the component with increasing frequency decreases and e.g. for steel at the selected minimum frequency of 2 MHz only reaches a maximum of about 1.5 mm. Another essential Disadvantage of this test method is that the Transit time measurement of the pulses, i. the measurement of the speed of sound, a high metrological Requires effort to obtain sufficient accuracy.

Die Schallgeschwindigkeit wird dann über die Winkel, die beispielsweise über ein Goniometer erfasst werden, und der bekannten Ausbreitungsgeschwindigkeit der Schallwelle im Senderprüfkopf berechnet.by virtue of of the law of refraction for Ultrasonic waves when penetrating the interface of two media with different sound hardness become dependent the insonification angle in the test medium on the one hand produces different wave modes, on the other hand one becomes Wave component reflects. The angle relationships are now chosen so that the receiving unit detects a minimum amplitude; This is then the case when all the sound energy is introduced into the material is, i. the reflected proportion is minimal. It is concluded that a Rayleigh surface wave is present. The speed of sound is then over the angles, which for example over a Goniometer be detected, and the known propagation speed the sound wave in the transmitter probe calculated.

Out WO 96 18 894 A1 it is known by means of a Vorlaufkeiles to wave a wave packet (sound impulse) into the outer skin of an aircraft wing. On the Angle of the Vorlaufkeiles can a certain phase velocity of the wave packet. Will be at constant thickness changed the frequency of the component, so form depending on the product of material thickness and measuring frequency different Wave modes off. Is the signal through a corresponding receiving unit taken up elsewhere on the wing and evaluated, so can with continuous change the measuring frequency, or the sounding of a multi-frequency signal, according to the known Dispersion curve detected different intensities of the sound signal become. When evaluating the frequency-amplitude relationship of the receiver signal are so several intensity maxima determine the resonance frequencies of the individual wave modes are assigned. From the characteristic position of the individual maxima, whose amplitude as well as from the phase velocity should be on the Type and thickness of one on the outer surface of the wing adhering contamination or contamination by water or De-icing agents are closed.
Out of considerations In terms of economy and safety, it is necessary to have the Material condition as possible exactly and possibly over the to capture the entire component cross-section. The invention is therefore The object of the invention, a method and a device for non-destructive Determination of material states and in particular to develop cradle damage that allow this and at least supplementary used for the above-described structure impression method can be. About that In addition, the apparatus and metrological effort for the implementation of the method preferably be low.
According to the invention this Task solved by the method specified in claim 1. The design of a Device for carrying out the Method results from claim 9.
With the method according to the invention the knowledge is exploited that the penetration of a through Ultrasonic vibration generated surface wave in the component cross-section frequency-dependent is about the size of one wavelength equivalent. By varying the frequency thus the penetration depth gradually changed and with each step the desired for the Material condition characteristic deviation, e.g. a change the speed of sound and / or the wavelength, so as to determine the Component cross section to record in layers. The frequency range is chosen as that the This gradually achievable penetration depth in the component cross-section the authoritative Part of the component cross-section covers. For the material steel forms Thus, a frequency of 2 MHz is usually the upper limit of the Frequency range, if not a thinner edge layer than about 1.5 mm selectively detected which should be even higher Frequency requires. Depending on the depth of the component cross-section to be detected The lower limit may be 100 kHz and below.
The in the context of the method according to the invention to be determined size whose characteristic deviation from harmless with respect to the injury Condition or standard condition of the material to be examined is for example, the speed of sound of the material. This can e.g. based on the above-described known method be determined by stimulating ultrasonic pulses in the component and their term over a known distance is measured, but e.g. in which Material steel the frequency of 2 MHz usually the upper limit the frequency range to be traversed gradually will be and to capture a larger part of the component cross-section is gradually reduced.
To a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention However, the ultrasonic vibration in the form of a surface wave in Continuous operation stimulated and to determine for a change the material condition characteristic deviation between the phase shift the excited at one point of the component surface and at one located at a distance therefrom point of the component surface surface wave received based on. The characteristic deviation can be detected by adjusting the phase shift that occurs in each test is compared with a predetermined reference phase shift. In the simplest case, it is thus possible to determine a change this phase shift from the pre-determined reference phase shift be concluded that a Material change has taken place, e.g. uses a creep damage.
To a further preferred embodiment the method according to the invention can be said phase shift between at the one point excited surface wave received at the other point even for the quantitative determination of the wavelength of the surface wave exploited be determined by the distance between the ultrasonic transmitting transducer, through the the surface wave is excited, and the ultrasonic receiving transducer, which receives the surface wave (or between two ultrasonic receiving transducers) to a distance ascertainable or known length changed will and the length this distance to the change caused by the distance change the phase shift in the ratio is set. Off the wavelength can be calculated again the speed of sound of the material. As a characteristic deviation, due to a change in the material condition in this case, a deviation from a reference wavelength or Reference sound velocity detected.
For the above described metrological Detecting the phase shift and the wavelength of one in a component excited surface wave becomes independent thereby Protection claimed.
In the above-described embodiments of the method according to the invention, in which the deviation characteristic of a change in the material state is qualitatively determined as a change in the phase shift between the excited and the received surface wave or quantitatively as a change in the speed of sound in the material or the wavelength, is the former Case of comparison with a pre-determined phase shift and in the latter case with a reference sound velocity or wavelength required. These reference values can be obtained by appropriate testing and measurement on a component in its still unused or in any case undamaged condition. According to a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, however, the sound velocity or wavelength determined in one or more of the test operations is taken as the reference sound velocity or wavelength in a damage-free or damage-free part of the component cross-section covered in the test. The invention is based on the consideration that experience shows that the vast majority of all occurring cradle damage is in the outer surface layer of a component, especially in pipelines, while deeper layers of the component cross-section are less damaged or undamaged. The inventive method can therefore be a sound Create a velocity or wavelength profile over the device cross-section, in which, typically, a creep damage originates from the surface, a gradient of decreasing damage in the depth of the component. If there is no damage, theoretically the speed of sound or the wavelength must be constant over the depth of the component cross-section. Measurements have shown, however, that due to surface influences, eg hardening effects, a certain change of the profile profile starting from the surface can be detected on component surfaces. However, if a gradient deviating significantly from zero or a significant change in the profile profile is present, a reliable statement about the presence and the course of a damage over the component cross-section is possible.
The device serves to detect the phase shift between the in the component stimulated and recorded surface wave and points to this a frequency generator for generating the surface wave in the continuous wave mode via an ultrasonic transducer and means for detecting said phase shift.
Die Änderung der Phasenverschiebung wird als Abweichung von einer vorermittelten Bezugs-Phasenverschiebung beispielsweise auf einem Oszilloskop angezeigt.to execution the embodiment of the method according to the invention, at the qualitatively a change the phase shift is detected, the device two ultrasonic transducers that are fixed relative to one another Distance on the component surface are fixed. The change of Phase shift is considered a deviation from a pre-determined Reference phase shift, for example displayed on an oscilloscope.
Für diese Meßvorrichtung zur Messung der Wellenlänge (und implizit der Schallgeschwindigkeit) einer in einem Bauteil angeregten Schwingung wird analog zu dem entsprechenden Verfahren selbständiger Schutz beansprucht.at that embodiment of the method according to the invention, at which the wavelength is quantitative is determined is at least one of the two ultrasonic transducers along the component surface adjustable to change the distance of the ultrasonic transducer from each other can. The adjustable ultrasonic transducer, preferably the or a the ultrasonic receiving transducer, is a device for determination and / or associated with measuring the Verstellstrecke to the the Distance changed so that their Length too the change in the phase shift resulting from the adjustment can be related quantitatively. The quotient of this Length and the change the phase shift that occurs as a result of the adjustment and which can be observed on an oscilloscope, for example, is directly the wavelength. Here is the change the phase shift measured in integer or non-integer Multiple of phase passages. A phase passage corresponds to a e.g. on the oscilloscope observable change the prevailing phase shift by the amount of 2π. For this measuring device for measuring the wavelength (and implicitly the speed of sound) one in a component excited vibration is analogous to the corresponding method independent Protection claimed.
The method according to the invention and the device used therefor offer considerable advantages over the hitherto known test methods and devices, in particular with respect to the structure impression method described at the outset.
The most important advantage of the method according to the invention is the depth-dependent detection of the speed of sound or the wavelength of the sound vibration. This results in the course of the speed of sound or the wavelength over at least the relevant part of the component cross section, possibly also over the entire component thickness, whereby the damage profile is detected in the depth of the component cross section. The embodiment of the method according to the invention and the apparatus used therewith, with which the wavelength (and by converting the speed of sound) of the surface wave excited in the component, achieves a high measuring accuracy with a relatively low measuring effort due to the elementary measuring principle. This effort is much lower than the one with the same accuracy, which is required for the direct measurement of the speed of sound by measuring the duration of ultrasonic pulses in the component.
A comparison to the structural impression method determined by DIN 54150 is a much less effort required for surface preparation. Removal of the scale layer and coarse grinding of the test points are sufficient. The measurement does not take place punctually but over one larger material area, the freely selectable is.
The method according to the invention and the device used therefor can be automated in various ways. Thus, by equipping the device according to the invention for measuring the wavelength of the surface wave with an automatic traversing device, which performs an adjustment of one of the ultrasonic transducers by a predetermined or measurable Verstellstrecke, with a device for measured value and a connected computer possible, the occurrence of creep automatically to monitor and if necessary to report by coupling with an alarm device. If the components to be examined not only mechanically, but are also subjected to temperature, the ultrasonic transducers attached thereto must be established for resistance to the temperatures occurring.
The inventive method can go beyond that in addition to the determination of material damage also for detection other material conditions which are based on the elastic material properties impact. In addition to the determination of damage caused by corrosion, fatigue and embrittlement Is it possible, during a measurement in the load state by the described procedure also internal states of tension capture.

The Curve b refers to a component with a near-surface Damage, which is about one Part of the boundary layer continues in its interior. The injury manifests itself by a gradient that is significantly different from zero and variable the course of the speed of sound, which is a multiple of the damage-free Component detected gradient at the curve a. measurements have shown that at Existence of injury the gradient opposite the harmless Condition can be 2- to 6-fold.
