The function of the device is as follows:
In the reaction tube 1 , ammonia is split into hydrogen and nitrogen by reversing the reaction equation known for the Haber-Bosch process by the action of the heating coil 2 . The gas mixture formed, consisting essentially of hydrogen and nitrogen, enters the filter 5 under a pressure of preferably 20 bar. As a result of its greater diffusion rate, the hydrogen diffuses through the wall 6 of the filter 5 formed from platinum. To slow down the gas flow 7 existing flow obstacles are provided in the filter 5 from zeolite bodies. The hydrogen diffused through the wall 6 is collected in the housing 4 of the device 3 and drawn off from there for further use. The gas mixture of nitrogen and non-split ammonia that is retained in the filter 5 reaches a downstream cold trap 8 . There the ammonia is liquefied and returned to the process as a starting product.
