Abstract
Description
fierletzter Schutzgaskontakt.the last protective gas contact.
The invention relates to a working in a protective gas atmosphere, at least at the point of contact with an electrically conductive switching fluid, Switching contact preferably wetted with mercury.
Of these requirements, the former can be met by a suitable choice of material using the knowledge known from inorganic chemistry about the meet chemical reaction behavior of the metals and with regard to the second requirement it is known that it is a good wettability of metallic surfaces It is essential to create a clean and oxide-free surface and get. Accordingly, in the case of already known switching contacts, the In the present type, platinum is used as a matter of priority, as platinum is known to be practical not amalgamated and thus the first of the aforementioned two requirements is met. The second equally important condition can be flawless wettability but only through appropriate chemical baths with a pickling effect, through boiling in appropriate chemical solutions or similar chemical treatment methods meet by which the surface of the with the switching fluid wetted material is made oxide-free and as clean as possible. This method is but associated with the great disadvantage that it is once a "wet" Treatment process is because of the rational mass production in terms of the necessary drying time is in any case a disadvantage and continues to do so In particular, there is a great risk that the cleaned surface will become damaged of the material to be wetted up to the actual wetting in the dried state again covered with an albeit light oxide layer and thus ideal wettability is at least affected.
These disadvantages of the known arrangements are avoided if according to of the present invention as a material for the to be wetted with the switching fluid Surfaces of the switching contact, in particular for its contact elements, with hydrogen preferably enriched in an annealing process and immediately thereafter Immersing in the switching fluid wetted palladium in pure or alloyed Form is used and that this material is exchanged with a protective gas atmosphere which contains hydrogen, preferably in unbound form.
By these measures, the initially mentioned two Conditions for switching contacts of the present type are ideally met. palladium namely belongs to the metals of the platinum group and thus to the metals that are practical do not amalgamate. Palladium, however, continues to have that in the present application extremely valuable property that it is able to dissolve large amounts of hydrogen, which in this form as single atomic hydrogen has a particularly strong reducing effect exercises. This property is now within the scope of the present invention to that effect exploited, that an existing oxide layer on the surface of the palladium and prevents the formation of a new oxide layer, so a chemically pure and thus very easily wettable surface of the palladium is created will. The particular advantage of this cleaning method is that it "dry" i.e. for example in a recipient under a hydrogen-containing protective gas atmosphere is feasible and the palladium without loss of time and without the risk of renewed Contamination can be wetted by simply immersing it in the switching liquid. Overall, there are two essentials compared to the known arrangements Advantages, namely a short cleaning process that is very advantageous for the production process and on the other hand a very easy and, above all, perfect wettability of the carrier material.
In addition, the extreme absorption capacity of the Palladium for hydrogen guarantees the maintenance of the necessary pure The surface of the palladium for hydrogen ensures a maintenance of the necessary pure surface of the palladium too. over a long period of operation of the switching contact if it is in a hydrogen-containing protective gas atmosphere works that is in exchange with the palladium. Furthermore results from the Using palladium is another not inconsiderable advantage that palladium compared to platinum is considerably cheaper, although different with regard to any Contact properties should be noted that this is when using switching fluid are only of secondary importance because the actual switching capacity depends on the switching fluid is taken over.
As a material for the surfaces of the switch contact to be wetted According to a development of the invention, a palladium-nickel alloy can also be used use, whereby the palladium forms the predominant part of the alloy.
This measure allows, as far as mercury is used as a switching liquid Use is made of the very low solubility of palladium in mercury and thus further reduce amalgam formation.
The enrichment of the palladium with hydrogen takes place after a Further development of the invention useful in a gas mixture of hydrogen and an inert gas. In itself, of course, pure hydrogen would be the most active, however, it is known that there is a risk of explosion if it were used exclusively through oxyhydrogen formation. Such a risk is practically impossible if the Hydrogen in the aforementioned manner with an inert gas, for example with nitrogen, Argon or the like. is mixed.
According to one exemplary embodiment, it is recommended as a protective gas for the switching contact according to the invention, in turn, a mixture of hydrogen and an inert gas.
