Abstract
Description
The invention relates to optical telecommunications networks in which not only the trans port, but also the routing of telecommunications signals is effected, d. H. in which to couple optical channels len optical coupling arrangements are provided. Optical Te Communication networks should be as transparent as possible have d. H. they are said to be able to send signals also very different transmission formats, bit rates and transfer modulation formats.
A coupling arrangement for such an optical telecommunications tion network usually has at least one optical space head pelanordnung, possibly also an optical frequency coupling arrangement (Wavelength converter arrangement). As with any paddock The arrangement is in addition to their main task, coupling arrangement inputs with coupling arrangement outputs temporarily, possibly semi-permanent, (and possibly on the correct one Wavelength) to connect exclusively with each other, at the same time Side task to avoid faulty connections. For this are so-called interconnection tests in coupling arrangements usual in which after the control of the network node one Path through the coupling arrangement has been checked, whether the switched signal is actually correct Output (and possibly in the correct frequency position) arrives. At optical space coupling arrangements is also an option To take into account that the optical signal is correct Output arrives that, however (due to aging of Waveguide switches, insufficient control voltage, ver deterioration of the adjustment of optical components u. a.) the Attenuation of the room coupling switch has increased inadmissibly and the Amplitude of the optical signal switched through therefore too is low.
The invention now shows a way to monitor a optical coupling arrangement both in terms of their through switching state as well as with regard to insertion loss.
At this point it should be noted that (from DE 44 27 973 A1) Method of monitoring an optical broadband connection Cable between a fiber optic connection unit and a passive Optical interface is known, therefore in the LWL-An the electrical control signal of the unit provided there the optical transmitter is outside the spectral range pilot tone of the information signal to be transmitted nal low amplitude is added and at the passive Interface a small part of the transmitted optical sig branched off and led back to the fiber optic connection unit is where the pilot tone signal contained in the received signal is subjected to an amplitude evaluation.
This procedure assumes that the broadband signal is too is next available in electrical form, but for the Transmission over the optical broadband connection line in the optical area is transformed; it is about this be then only knew of procedures for monitoring quality the optical connecting cable.
The conditions are quite different when it comes to surveillance is a coupling arrangement, and not just an oversight the coupling arrangement with regard to its insertion loss, but also with regard to their switching status, d. H. to check whether the switched signal did actually arrives at the right exit; - and this without the broadband signals initially transmitted via the coupling arrangement once in electrical form, because with optical cop Pel arrangements or, more generally speaking, in optical kno The broadband signals are only available in optical form.
Die Überwachung eines optischen Knotens bzw., als dessen Sub system, einer optischen Koppelanordnung mit Hilfe von außer halb des spektralen Bereichs zu übertragender Informationssig nale liegenden Kennungssignalen niedriger Amplitude, die nach Durchlaufen der zu überwachenden Koppelanordnung einer Ampli tudenbewertung unterworfen werden, erfordert daher ein besonde res Vorgehen, und hierzu zeigt die Erfindung einen Weg.Monitoring an optical node or, as its sub system, an optical coupling arrangement with the help of half of the spectral range to be transmitted information sig nale lying identification signals of low amplitude, after Running through the coupling arrangement of an ampli to be monitored subject to assessment, therefore requires a special res procedure, and the invention shows a way to this.
The invention relates to a method for monitoring opti broadband telecommunications equipment using Information to be transmitted outside the spectral range on signals low-amplitude identification signals, the after passing through the optical broadband tele to be monitored Communication device subjected to an amplitude evaluation will; this method is characterized according to the invention records that for monitoring an optical coupling arrangement the optical signals fed to the coupling arrangement inputs each with an identification signal with a respective Kop Relatively low frequency associated with the arrangement arrangement input be acted upon and that one of the switched through to the optical signals occurring at the coupling arrangement outputs each branched off small part both with regard to the Am plitude as well as in terms of the frequency of the identification signal is monitored and that in the non-branched part of the optical Signals contained identification signal is optically suppressed.
A circuit arrangement for monitoring an optical head pelanordnung is characterized in that an optical fiber ver is more upstream, its pumping power with a Ken voltage signal with the respective coupling arrangement input orderly, relatively low frequency with low modulation onsindex is modulated, and that the coupling arrangement outputs an optical directional coupler is connected downstream, the branching output via an optoelectric converter one assigned to the respective coupling arrangement output Monitoring input of an amplitude and frequency of the identifier signals checking monitoring device leads. Here can not the two in a further embodiment of the invention output of the respective coupling arrangement output downstream optical directional coupler an the identification module lation suppressing optical fiber amplifier downstream be.
The invention advantageously enables monitoring an optical coupling arrangement with regard to their through switching state and the respective insertion loss tet that the switch through the coupling arrangement the optical signals are to be switched through transparently, so that their structure may be unknown and for surveillance cannot use any headers.
Further special features of the invention will become apparent from the following ing closer explanation of an embodiment based on the drawing can be seen.
. . , ee und a Ausgängen a1, . . . , aa. . . , ee zugeordnete, relativ nie drige Frequenz f1, . . . , fe aufweist. The drawing shows schematically in one for understanding the Invention required scope an embodiment Circuit arrangement for monitoring an optical coupling arrangement K with e inputs e1,. . . , ee and a outputs a1, . . . , aa. This coupling arrangement may be in a manner known per se se at least one optical space coupling arrangement and possibly also an optical frequency coupling arrangement (wavelength converter arrangement) without being shown in detail must become. In the e input fibers E1,. . . , Ee the paddock order K is an optical fiber amplifier EV1,. . . , EVe inserted, its pumping power from an identification signal generator G1,. . . , Ge forth with low modulation index of an identification signal is modulated, one for each Coupling arrangement input e1,. . . , ee associated, relatively never third frequency f1,. . . , fe has.
. . , EVe) aufmoduliert werden.Such an identification signal can be a pilot act tone through which the optical signal to be switched its quality is not impaired. In this Hin is visible (in G.R. Hill et al .: "A transport network layer based on optical network elements ", IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology, 11 (1993) 5/6, 667-679) for an STM-4 signal Pilot tone frequency in the range from 10 to 100 kHz and a mod called amplitude less than 10%, in which the Bitfeh Probability remains unaffected. If you choose pilot ton frequencies in the range of a few hundred hertz, so how this can also be seen from the drawing, the pilot tone optical signal to be switched by means of an optical Fiber amplifier (EV1,..., EVe) are modulated.
The use of an optical fiber amplifier to this Purpose has the advantage on the one hand, one for this anyway to compensate for by the optical coupling arrangement K. optical fiber amplifiers to be provided to be able to use; the other is the monitoring of Coupling arrangement possible even if no through switching optical useful signal is present, because in this case the increased spontaneous emission of the optical fiber amplifier kers carries the identifier modulation.
In die a Ausgangsfasern A1, . . . In the a output fibers A1,. . . , Aa of the coupling arrangement K. one fiber optic directional coupler RK1,. . . , RKa turned on adds, its branching output via an optoelectric Converter o / e to the respective coupling arrangement output a1,. . . , aa assigned monitoring input ü1,. . . , üa ei ner control and monitoring device Control for over Checking the amplitude and frequency of the respective identifier signals leads.
An deren Ausgang (a1, . . . , aa) wird mittels des jeweiligen faseroptischen Richtkopplers (RK1, . . . Those to be switched through by the optical coupling arrangement K. pass through optical signals, each in the above Way within the signal band with the respective, with be ner frequency the relevant coupling arrangement input (E1, Ee) applied to the uniquely identifying identification signal Coupling arrangement. At their output (a1,..., Aa) is by means of of the respective fiber optic directional coupler (RK1,..., RKa) a small signal portion is branched off and after its electro optical conversion in terms of amplitude and frequency of the Checked identifier contained therein. Is the optical signal has reached an incorrect output or is the signal level after passing through the coupling arrangement, this becomes by means of the control device control means the filter and threshold circuits are determined without this must be explained in more detail here, since this ver understanding of the invention is not required. It was in the in connection with this, notes that in the voltage signal frequencies, d. that is, if no frequency is an integer is a multiple of another frequency Control device for identification signal evaluation too So-called synchronous detectors (lock-in amplifiers) can be used can.
. . 226). Dabei wird davon Gebrauch gemacht, daß die Zeitkon stanten von optischen Faserverstärkern bekanntlich mittels Va riation der Pumpleistung, Pumpschwellenleistung und Signalsät tigungsleistung in gewissen Bereichen variiert werden können (E.Desurvire: "Analysis of transient gain saturation and reco very in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers", IEEE Photonics Techno logy Letters, 1 (1989) 8, 196 . . . 199). Zugleich tragen auch die ausgangsseitigen optischen Faserverstärker VA1, . . . To the non-branched part of the connected free the optical signals from the identification signal, the fiber is behind the non-branching output optical directional coupler RK1,. . . , RKa into the output fibers A1, . . . , Aa an optical fiber amplifier VA1,. . . , VAa inserted, which is operated so that its transmission behavior for the Signal modulation approximately by a zero and one Pole can be described, the pole at a higher Frequency lies as the zero, so the opposite low-frequency identification modulation is suppressed (J.Free man, J. Conradi: "Gain modulation response of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers ", IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 5 (1993) 2, 224 . . . 226). It is used that the time con known from optical fiber amplifiers using Va riation of pump power, pump threshold power and signal set performance can be varied in certain areas (E. Desurvire: "Analysis of transient gain saturation and reco very in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers ", IEEE Photonics Techno logy Letters, 1 (1989) 8, 196. . . 199). At the same time they also wear output-side optical fiber amplifier VA1,. . . , VAa on Compensation of the K (including Lich the following optical directional coupler RK1,. . . , RKa) caused attenuation of the optical signals switched through.
