Description

In diese Vertiefungen wurden Schmierstoffe eingelagert. Die DE-OS 19 04 734 offenbart einen Kolbenring, bei dem die Vertiefungen durch Herausätzen von Graphitlamellen gebildet sind. Auch ist bekannt, Chromschichten mit einem fein verteilten Rißnetzwerk als Gleitschicht auf die Lauffläche aufzubringen. Die Chromschicht besitzt eine hohe Härte und kann somit die Lebensdauer des Kolbenringes verlängern. Der Nachteil derartiger Konstruktionen liegt zum einen darin, daß die Vertiefungen als langzeitiges Schmiermittelreservoir ungeeignet sind, zum anderen die Aufbringung von verschleißbeständigen Werkstoffen sich nachteilig im Produktionsprozeß auswirkt, da teilweise umweltbelastende Auswirkungen bei der Anwendung auftreten.Piston rings, which are used to seal the combustion chambers of internal combustion engines, must have high strength or abrasion resistance so that they do not wear out prematurely. Diese Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß dadurch gelöst, daß die Vertiefungen durch Kaltverformungen des Gußwerkstoffes hergestellt sind, derart, daß auf der Lauffläche einzelne ungleichförmige Plateauflächen gebildet sind, welche eine gesteigerte Härte aufweisen. Durch die Kaltverformung findet eine Verdichtung des Werkstoffes statt, mit der Folge, daß die Härte in diesem Bereich steigt. Hierdurch ist es nunmehr nicht mehr notwendig, zusätzliche verschleißfeste Schichten auf die Lauffläche aufzubringen. Darüber hinaus entsteht zwischen den Plateaus ein ungeordnetes Labyrinth, welches zur Verbesserung der Schmierungsverhältnisse beiträgt. Das in den Vertiefungen haftende Öl umspült die Plateaus und trägt damit zur Kühlung bei. Vorzugsweise sind die Vertiefungen durch Eindrücken kugelförmiger Partikel gebildet. Je nach Anwendungsfall kann eine bestimmte Rauhigkeit erforderlich sein. Bei Otto-Motoren sollte die Rauhigkeit geringer ausfallen als bei Diesel-Motoren. In der Fig. 1 ist ein geschlitzter Kolbenring für Brennkraftmaschinen in perspektivischer Ansicht dargestellt. Der Kolbenring besteht aus Grauguß. Die auf der Lauffläche (2) durch Kaltverformung gebildeten Plateauflächen (3) (Fig. 2, 3) ermöglichen aufgrund ihrer Härte den Verzicht auf kostenintensiv hergestellte, verschleißfeste Zusatzschichten auf der Lauffläche. Die Plateaus (3) entstehen durch Verdichten des Gußwerkstoffes auf der Lauffläche (2), indem kugelförmige Partikel in die Lauffläche (2) eingedrückt werden und somit Vertiefungen (4) erzeugen. Beim Eindrücken der Partikel entsteht ein ungeordnetes Labyrinth mit ungleichförmigen Plateauflächen (3), welche einen Ölfilm aufbauen können, der kühlend und schmierend die Lauffläche (2) vor unerwünscht hohem Verschleiß schützt.In Fig. 1 a slotted piston ring for internal combustion engines is shown in a perspective view.
