Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a new use of borophosphates and for this use appropriate means.
B. Borverbindungen, gute Korrosionsschutzwirkung erbringen. It has long been known to apply paints or coatings to protect Metals used against atmospheric corrosion, certain inorganic ones Add connections. In particular, additives with particularly good corrosion protective effect primarily heavy metal compounds, such as lead compounds and Chromate used. However, the use of such heavy metal compounds is today in With regard to their toxicity and environmental damage, no more or at most very much permissible to a limited extent, so that environmentally compatible, non-toxic corrosion-inhibiting substances was sought. It was found that certain phosphate compounds, mixtures thereof or mixtures of phosphates with other connections, e.g. B. boron compounds, provide good corrosion protection.
In particular, zinc phosphate was used for this purpose, which is increasingly used today displaced toxic zinc chromate. Also alkaline earth phosphates, especially calcium and Magnesium phosphates and aluminum phosphates have been used for the surface protection of Metals used.
Mixtures of phosphates, such as calcium phosphate, with borates, such as barium metaborate, have been described in the literature, e.g. B. DE-OS 27 14 138 and DE-OS 27 16 588, as corrosion inhibiting pigments described. According to J. Ruf, borates are added to phosphates (Organic metal protection, page 287) for the initial phase of corrosion protection important solubility, d. H. Readiness for hydrolysis of the phosphates to accelerate.
Although the substances and mixtures of substances mentioned have good corrosion-inhibiting effects, are always increasing demands on corrosion protection, so that the Invention underlying object is to new means for the surface protection of To get metals with an improved effect compared to the prior art. In particular, these agents should also be environmentally friendly and non-toxic at the same time.
This object is achieved according to the invention by using as a means for surface protection of metals and metal alloys used at least one metal borophosphate.
Es handelt sich um Salze der Borphosphorsäure der chemischen Formel H₂[BPO₅].These borophosphates have a surprisingly good corrosion protection effect and are light to manufacture, non-toxic and therefore well environmentally friendly. Their manufacture and constitution are in "Angewandte Chemie", 1 994, volume 106, page 791. They are salts the borophosphoric acid of the chemical formula H₂ [BPO₅].
The borophosphates, which contain boron and phosphorus as uniform compounds, have already significant advantages in handling compared to mixtures of phosphates and Borates, because unlike such mixtures, they cannot separate. Especially In addition, their rapid hydrolysis in the presence of water is favorable to theirs Effectiveness for corrosion protection significantly affected. This hydrolysis behavior leaves show themselves clearly in a simple laboratory test. This test is the substance to be tested suspended in distilled water and the course of the pH over time determined. According to J. Ruf (corrosion, protection by paints and pigments, page 124) is only in the pH range 7 to 8 given a dissociation, which leads to the formation of layer-forming PO₄ ions.
If you compare the measurement results of this laboratory test on the one hand from a mixture Calcium borate and calcium polyphosphate in a weight ratio of 1: 1 and on the other hand from Calcium borophosphate (Ca [BPO₅]), then the significant difference in hydrolysis behavior falls on. While the mixture of calcium borate and calcium polyphosphate when introduced into the presented distilled water gives a pH of 8.38, which slowly within 10 min increases to 11.25 and then continuously due to the hydrolysis of the calcium poly phosphates drops to 9.56 after 24 h, the behavior according to the invention behaves Borophosphate completely different. This results in distilled after introduction into the presented Water has a pH of 7.10, which changes only insignificantly and unites after 24 hours Has reached a value of 8.08. This means that the calcium borophosphate immediately becomes the Layering favorable pH range is present while using Mixtures of phosphate and borate are still not reached even after 24 h.
Proven as a means for the surface protection of metals and metal alloys especially the alkaline earth metal borophosphates as cheap, being for reasons of non-toxicity and the production cost calcium borophosphate Ca [BPOkosten] is particularly preferred.
The borophosphates used according to the invention, again particularly calcium borophosphate, are in contrast to mixtures of phosphates and borates with those for corrosion protection Medium commonly used binders and resins are well tolerated and can be used without Process problems. It turned out to be particularly advantageous to use the borophosphates in one Particle size of <10 microns to use, because this maximum grain size is an optimal Packing density of a coating produced with it enables.
In another aspect, the invention relates to corrosion inhibiting agents for the Surface protection of metals and metal alloys that are even in a binder distributes at least one metal borophosphate, preferably an alkaline earth metal borophosphate, especially calcium borophosphate. The binders are customary paint binders, such as Alkyd resins or water-thinnable systems such as acrylate, which are known as Primers are used in the coating of metals and metal alloys. The Corrosion-inhibiting agents according to the invention can, in addition to borophosphate and binders other conventional paint additives and other pigments, such as color pigments, or contain other corrosion-inhibiting substances.
The agents according to the invention expediently contain the metal borophosphate or Metal borophosphates in a concentration corresponding to a Q value of 0.6 to 0.8. This Q value is known to be defined from PVK / KPVK, where PVK is the pigment volume concentration tration and KPVK means the critical pigment volume concentration.
The surprising technical effect of the borophosphates used according to the invention To demonstrate, the corrosion protection effect of calcium borophosphate was compared with known corrosion protection pigments determined according to the recognized test according to M. F. Clay. In this test, bare steel sheets are cleaned, weighed and placed in aqueous slurries gene of the substance to be tested. After 30 days of exposure Slurry on the steel sheet is rinsed off, dried and the change in weight determined. The following table contains the results of the comparative tests.
The table above clearly shows the surprisingly significantly better corrosion protection effect of the borophosphate compared to known anti-corrosion pigments.
In einem Laboratoriumszwangsmischer wurden 400 ml destilliertes Wasser vorgelegt, und bei laufendem Mischwerk wurden portionsweise 600 g des jeweiligen zu prüfenden Korrosions inhibitors eingearbeitet, so daß jeweils eine Pigmentsuspension mit einem Feststoffgehalt von 60 Gew.-% entstand.400 ml of distilled water were placed in a laboratory positive mixer, and at 600 g of the respective corrosion to be tested were added in portions to the running mixer inhibitors incorporated, so that in each case a pigment suspension with a solids content of 60% by weight was obtained.
Sandblasted sheets of St 37/2 with the dimensions were used for the corrosion tests 150 × 150 × 1 mm prepared as follows. Soft rubber rings were placed on the sheet surface with an outer diameter of 95 mm, an inner diameter of 50 mm and one Glued 2 mm thick in the middle. The free area inside the rubber ring was then with the pigment paste produced in the laboratory mixer is filled in and smoothed out.
The sample sheets prepared in this way were saturated in a Kesternich test device Exposed to water vapor atmosphere at 35 ° C. After an exposure period of 30 Days, the test panels were removed from the device, the pigment suspension was without mechanical aid was rinsed off the test surface, and the test panels were then at 100 ° C dried. The corrosion tests were evaluated by visual assessment the test area.
The test area was homogeneously covered with a brownish phosphate protective layer in places different thicknesses, but was of excellent adhesion.
The entire test area was covered with a fine-grained corrosion layer. On the edge of the Test area (approx. 10 to 15%) was a protective layer interspersed with rust.
The test area was covered with a thick layer of rust that partially peeled off. Only on outer edge there were some small spots with little corrosion.
About 75% of the test area was covered with rust. In between were Corrosion-free areas with little pronounced protective layer.
The test area was homogeneously covered with a fine-grained protective layer, which in places was slightly rusty brown.
The test area was roughened on the surface, but otherwise - apart from a few points shaped rust spots - without visible corrosion, indicating the high alkalinity of the mixture was due. However, there was no protective layer.
