Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for monitoring the Transmission quality of transparent optical networks correspond chend the preamble of claim 1 and an arrangement for Execution of the procedure.
Optical networks based on high bit rate, fiber-bound Transmission lines with optical switches and given if also with optical frequency division multiplexing future telecommunications transport network. Already existing networks will be based on this, initially as an overlay support the network to be installed.
The expected further development of the communication networks makes it necessary to make the optical networks as transparent as possible rent for their users. There are different ones Degree of transparency possible. You can differentiate whether a network with regard to the type of modulation, the line code, the clock frequency and / or the transmission format - so at for example the choice between plesiochronous or syn chronic digital hierarchy - is transparent. By practi A number of combinations are of great importance where with a network of maximum transparency regarding modulation type, line code, clock frequency and transmission format trans is parent, with less transparency the module is type, with further reduced transparency freedom regarding the line code is also lost and with little transparency there is only freedom with regard to the transmission format.
The management of networks makes it necessary to carry over monitoring quality. This function is used in networks the synchronous digital hierarchy or for networks for ATM Transmission by forming a so-called bit interleaved parity (BIP), i.e. the bit parity, over a block of usage data realized. The result of the parity calculation is thereby in addition to the user data from the transmitter node to the emp catcher node transmitted where by comparing the neube calculated parity with the received value an assessment the transmission quality or the detection of transmission errors is possible. However, this procedure requires that Direct access to the user data in each network node is possible what the user desires for ho as possible the transparency of the transmission paths.
The object of the invention is therefore one possible ability to monitor the transmission quality in optical To enable networks to be as transparent as possible.
In addition to monitoring the transmission quality by Untersu The bit parity is also known, at least in each case a channel of an optical frequency division multiplex signal for Reserve surveillance purposes. Run over this channel then the information required for network management flows, the parameters of this channel with certainty are known and usually sufficient transmission capacity is available for test sequences. In this way you get reliable information about the network quality of high transparency, but sets making sure that the monitoring channel for everyone else Transmission channels is representative. The hypothesis that everyone Channels in an optical frequency division multiplex system from one Disorder is equally affected, however, in many Cases not given. There is one especially in optical networks Series of channel-selective interference sources, such as channel crosstalk, Optical amplifier ripple, phase conversion noise in amplitude noise on filter edges and also white tere malfunctions, so that the evaluation of one in one individual monitoring signal transmitted none reliable information about the transmission quality of the opti network. Another limitation in the The significance of this method results from the fact that the monitoring channel in each optical switching device device, a so-called cross-connect switch is terminated and passes through neither switching network nor frequency converter, in particular but especially the frequency converter is based on today's State of knowledge decisively influences the signal quality sen.
According to the invention, the object is achieved by a method of gangs mentioned solved that by the characteristics of the Kenn character of claim 1 is further developed. By beson the advantage of the method according to the invention is that How the facilities work with the Signalfre quenz much lower working frequencies, so that both the realization as well as a flawless way of working with little effort is possible. A preferred job quenz of the inventive method is in the claim 2 and a preferred evaluation option for the determined Histograms are described in claim 3. One because of the little effort and the little influence on the Signal transmission preferred arrangement for performing the The method according to the invention is in claim 4 described.
The invention is intended to be based on one in the drawing illustrated embodiment are explained in more detail.

In Fig. 1, a fiber optic directional coupler FORK is inserted into the light path between an input E and an output A and through this a relatively small part of the light output is coupled out and delivered to the optical input of an optoelectronic converter OEW. The optoelectronic converter OEW, which can also include a photocurrent amplifier, emits a corresponding electrical output signal to an analog scanner AB, which works according to the "sample and hold principle" and at a signal frequency of 10 GHz with a clock frequency asynchronous to the signal frequency of 100 MHz works. Such analog samplers are commercially available, for example, for sampling oscillographs. With the output of the scanner AB, the input of an analog-digital converter ADW is connected with a resolution of 8 bits corresponding to 256 levels. The analog-to-digital converter ADW works at the same clock frequency as the analog scanner AB and therefore outputs 8 bit words to the input of a computer RE in the rhythm of 100 MHz, which is set up for the statistical evaluation of such 8 bit words is and contains a memory for reference values and an output device for the generated histograms HI. The statistical evaluation is a prerequisite that the signal to be examined is intensity-modulated and transmitted in the NRZ code. The prerequisite for the statistical independence of the generated amplitude samples arises, on the one hand, from the asynchrony between the signal clock frequency and the sampling frequency, and, on the other hand, from the comparatively low sampling frequency, which ensures that samples are obtained from independent clock periods.
The result of the signal sampling are the eye diagrams shown in FIGS . 2a and 3a, with FIG. 2a being a completely open eye, i.e. the optimal case for the reception and regeneration of digital signals, and in FIG. 3a is the eye diagram for a closed eye, that is, the case of a completely noisy and jittered received signal from which a regenerated signal can no longer be easily generated. In Fig. 2b, the density function for the fully opened eye is shown, it can be seen that the density function at the instantaneous value 0 according to the amplitude of the zero bits and at instantaneous value 1 according to the amplitude of the one bits has significant maxima, while in the Density function for the closed eye these amplitude values do not occur with significant probability. The rule is at the Fig. 3b function to the density for a closed eye and not pure Rau is recognized only to the small indentation in the center of the density function, and when the value is 0.5 u / UI, both the sent states can be guessed, the reference to UI means the reference to the unit interval.
A. Papoulis in "Probability, random varia bles, and stochastic processes." McGraw-Hill Book Co- Singapore 1986 im Abschnitt 5-4 Momente auf den Seiten 110 und 111 erläutert.Central moments result from the probability density functions of FIGS . 2b and 3b, which represent the basis for the further evaluation. The determination of moments and the related questions are described, for example, by A. Papoulis in "Probability, random varia bles, and stochastic processes." McGraw-Hill Book Co-Singapore 1986 in section 5-4 Moments on pages 110 and 111.
For the eye diagram according to FIG. 2a, for example, a value of 0.045 results for a moment of fourth order, while this value for the eye diagram according to FIG. 3a is 0.051. A sixth-order moment results in a value of 0.0119 for the open eye and 0.0251 for the closed eye; for an eighth-order moment, the values are 0.0033 and 0.0159, so that it can be seen that special the higher even-numbered moments are suitable for an evaluation, the values for the open eye being used as reference values.
