Description
The invention relates to a component for nuclear reactors made of zirconium or a zirconium alloy, the one hydrogen-containing or hydrogen-releasing medium is exposed.
It is known that zirconium, especially in the form of zirconium alloys, is used because of its small capture cross-section for thermal neutrons preferably used as reactor material. However, have such Zirconium alloys have the disadvantage that they are very much under the influence or absorption of hydrogen embrittle quickly and very severely. For the service life of components made of zirconium alloys in water- or organically cooled reactors is in addition to the loss of material due to the corrosive attack of the coolant above all embrittlement is decisive. The risk of tearing open or leaking Components grows considerably when hydrides precipitate in the material. the Previous methods for limiting this hydrogen embrittlement are as follows:
1. Begrenzung der schädlichen Verunreinigungen im Kühlmittel und1. Limitation of harmful impurities in the coolant and
2. Change in the composition and condition of the component material.
With the ones built so far and planned land reactors in which a zirconium alloy such as Zircaloy is used to clad the nuclear fuel is present, you have to change the nuclear charge at intervals of 2 to 4 years if you have the Wants to control hydrogen embrittlement with the methods mentioned. In the case of ship actuators, however, is off For economic reasons, a significantly longer service life of the composite with such burners Fuel assemblies are necessary, and land reactors also tend to be longer Fuel element service life and higher coolant temperatures. The hydrogen embrittlement is with it the previous methods can no longer be mastered. Also in pressure tube type nuclear reactors where the moderator container is traversed by the pressure pipes in which the fuel elements and the
If possible, the pressure pipes should be located in the coolant over the entire stand / eil of the reactor dnsiit / .bereii remain.
The method known as hydrogen embrittlement is already known in pressure pipes made of zirconium alloys in water or organically cooled reactors> 'om To influence the pressure pipe type, that on the outside of the pressure pipe ribs from the same Material like that of the pressure pipe are welded on. Since the ribs are deeper when the reactor is in operation Temperature than the pressure tubes are, the hydrogen absorbed by the pressure tubes migrates predominantly in the ribs and precipitates there as hydride. This method based on pressure pipes limited and not transferable to fuel rod cladding is, since in the latter case the necessary temperature difference cannot be established Disadvantage of large space and material requirements.
The present invention is therefore based on the object of a component made of zirconium or a To bring zirconium alloy into proposal, which has a longer service life and higher coolant temperatures tolerable, since the precipitation of zirconium hydrides from these zirconium alloys over a long service life prevented and thus the previous disadvantages are avoided.
This object is achieved in the case of the component mentioned at the beginning in that it is metallically bonded to a metal or a metal alloy that has a higher affinity for hydrogen than the zirconium or the zirconium alloy and serves as a hydrogen absorbent.
As such a hydrogen-absorbing material, one can advantageously use yttrium or an yttrium alloy provide, or a rare earth metal, or an alloy containing a rare earth metal deploy.
When the component according to the invention is a fuel rod for a fuel assembly represents for the construction of reactor cores, the nuclear fuel of an outer jacket from a Zirconium alloy is surrounded, then the hydrogen-absorbing material on the Muntelinncnseitc connected to the zirconium alloy and can advantageously close to the outer jacket End plugs attached or distributed along the length of the fuel rod and between fuel pellets arranged or provided as a cylindrical shell between the outer jacket and the pellet column sci.i.
If the component according to the invention is a fuel plate for a fuel assembly for the construction of reactor cores, the nuclear fuel of which is from a Außenmar.tel from a Zirconium alloy is surrounded, then the hydrogen-absorbing material can expediently either the narrow sides of the fuel plate or on the broad side of the plate element firmly between the outer jacket and fuel attached and bonded to the zirconium alloy.
If the component according to the invention is a pressure pipe for nuclear reactors from Pressure tube type is, which is formed from a zirconium alloy, one sees according to the invention that hydrogen-absorbing material either embedded in the pressure pipe material or on the outside of the pressure pipe attached before. The hydrogen-absorbing material can be in the form of a layer in the pressure pipe material embedded or provided as a winding on the pressure pipe. The one applied to the pressure pipe hydrogen-absorbing material can also be in the form of a protective tube made of a zirconium alloy be provided, which is connected to the pressure pipe.
