Verbindung von Keramik mit Metall und Keramik mit KeramikConnection of ceramics with metal and ceramics with ceramics
The invention relates to brazing materials for the connection of ceramics with ceramics and ceramics with metal and from individual parts manufactured components which contain such connection points.
It is often desirable in a wide variety of industries. To connect ceramic bodies with one another or with a metal part in order to obtain an insulated component, for example a device for electrical discharges, a capacitor, a window for a waveguide, in the case of a lamp base or similar devices.
Ein solches Material muß beide zu verbindenden Körper ausreichend benetzen, so daß eineGenerally, a braze material is used to form the desired joint. innige Verbindung hergestellt wird. A wide variety of alloys have recently been used as joining materials been; The alloys which are preferably used include certain amounts of titanium or of a titanium hydride. since these and similar materials have been found to bond satisfactorily with ceramic surfaces produce. For example, in US Pat. No. 3,001,269, a component made of ceramic and metal bonded together is shown described and claimed, in which the material of the connection point is a fusible alloy, which essentially

Although zinc, bismuth, cadmium, indium and tin are described in the said US patent as possible substitutes for replacing all or part of the lead in the alloy, the alloys used technically for the purpose of joining metal with ceramics are generally made up Lead copper and titanium with or without small amounts of silver. In these alloys, the alloy component lead was used; since it is the most effective malleable metal for lowering the melting point and increasing the fluidity of the alloy and its wettability.
In spite of the presence of the alloy component lead, a major disadvantage of the previously available brazing materials is that a relatively high temperature is required during the production of the brazed joint, especially when titanium or hydrides of titanium are contained in the brazing material. For example, a temperature in the surrounding extension of 1000 0 C is required for brazing materials of copper-titanium. It will be appreciated that when brazing is used in the manufacture of sensitive electronic components, these associated high temperatures can have highly deleterious effects on adjacent elements and this makes the use of these brazing materials highly undesirable.

It is therefore the object of this invention to provide a new brazing material to create a connection and a new connection structure between adjacent ceramic To deliver structures or between a ceramic and a metal structure.
Another object of the invention is to provide a new brazing material to find, at which a significantly lower soldering temperature can be used than with the materials known up to now.
According to the invention, these objects are achieved by a hard solder for the connection of ceramic bodies to one another or the connection of a ceramic body with a metal structure. The hard solder is characterized in that it is at least Contains two metals of the group consisting of aluminum, copper, magnesium and alloys of these metals. The brazing is reached at temperatures of around 450 to 550 ° C, i.e. in a temperature range which is considerably lower than that required for the previously known materials Area.
For a better understanding of the present invention, reference is made to the present detailed description along with FIG Referred to the figure, which shows an assembled component made of ceramic and metallic parts, which has a connection point in which two of these components are connected by the brazing material of the invention.
GemsS der vorliegenden Erfindung werden Mischungen aus Kupfer-Aluminium, "ac-nesium-Aluminium und Hap-nesium-KupferAs already stated, there is a particular problem with the Connection of ceramic bodies to one another or when a ceramic body is connected to a metal body is to use a brazing material that wets the surface of the ceramic body sufficiently to create an intimate establish firmly adhering connection with it, and which also wets the surface of the Ketallkörper to the connection cause. Gems of the present invention are mixtures made of copper-aluminum, ac-nesium-aluminum and hap-nesium-copper

A first brazing material of the invention can be prepared according to containing · a mixture of copper-aluminum powder in the eutectic proportions of about 67% aluminum and about .33 wt.% Copper. The eutectic temperature for this alloy is around 5H8 ° C. A second brazing material according to the invention can be prepared containing a mixture of magnesium-copper eutectic powder in the ratio of about 30.7 wt.% Copper, and about 69.3 wt.% Magnesium. The eutectic temperature for this alloy is about 485 0 C. The mixtures for the first and the second brazing material were prepared in amounts of about 10 grams and 10 to 12 hours in Anylazetat shaken to ensure thorough mixing.
Anschließend wurden Verbindungsstellen zwischen den folgenden Oberflächenarten hergestellt:Joints were then made between the following types of surface:
a) Keramik mit Keramik unda) ceramics with ceramics and
b) Keramik mit einer handelsüblichen Aluminiumlegierung, welche etwa 98iS Aluminium und Mangan und andere Verunreinigungen enthält, welche, soweit dies bekannt ist, für diese Erfindung keine Rolle spielen.b) Ceramic with a commercially available aluminum alloy, which is about 98iS aluminum and manganese and other impurities contains which, as far as is known, play no role for this invention.
Alle Proben zeigten nach der Abkühlung auf Räumtemoeratur eine wirksameThe wet mixes were applied to Fosterite ceramic discs with a brush applied. A binder was not used. Hard solder connections of ceramic with ceramic or ceramic with aluminum were made with the above first and second brazing materials, the brazing was carried out in that the brushed samples in a clamping device with a pressing force of 2.5 kg (5 Ib.) were used and heated for about 30 minutes at a temperature of about 56O ° C in a vacuum. All samples showed an effective after cooling down to room temperature

Connection between the individual bodies. The second brazing alloy, which contained copper and magnesium, showed an extraordinarily strong bond between ceramics and ceramics * and between ceramics and metal. The fact that all attempts to physically separate the ceramic body from the ceramic body or the ceramic body from the metal body, led to a fracture of the ceramic body at a point outside the connection point, indicates the strength of the connections effected in this way.
The figure shows a body 1 produced by brazing, which was formed by brazing an electrical strip line 3 made of aluminum, a conductive aluminum pattern 5, which was formed on a ceramic base 7 made of an aluminum oxide compound (AlpO-), and the aluminum base 7. Similar composite bodies were also formed, in which, however, the base 7 consisted of barium titanate, or stabilized zirconium earth (ZrO2) or of lead-zirconate-titanate. According to this invention, a layer of magnesium was previously vapor-deposited on the part of the strip conductor 3 which was to be connected to the substrate 7 by brazing. The eutectic temperature for the magnesium-aluminum alloy is approximately 437 ° C. The line 3 was brazed by placing the assembled components in a jig at a pressure of 2.5 kg (5 lb.) at 550 ° C. for 10 minutes. It was found that in this way a firmly adhering connection was established between the line 3 and the ceramic carrier 7. This happened with each of the above-mentioned carrier bodies. The carrier bodies with the lines soldered on by magnesium-aluminum brazing material were then placed in a vacuum oven at 350 ° C. for about 14 hours. The braze joints remained intact: this was evidenced by a tensile test which indicated that no brittle intermetallic joint was formed. When testing the strength of the joint, line 3 broke with a pull of about 0.5 kr (1 pound), leaving the joint itself intact.

In another example, aluminum strips were previously dunked on the parts to be connected with copper instead of the magnesium wear and tear described above. proven. Two different carriers were used with aluminum patterns applied to them in the form of a thin film, the first carrier being a ceramic disk made of stabilized zirconium earth (ZrOp) and the second carrier being a disk made of lead-zirconate-titanate. The thin-film aluminum samples were, in each case, similar to the Huster 5 described above. The brazed connection would be achieved by placing the support bodies for the test and the associated copper-coated aluminum lines in a jig at a pressure of 2.5 kg (5 lb.) and placing the stack in a vacuum at about 57O for about 10 minutes ° C was heated. Tensile tests again showed that a connection between the two carrier bodies with the individual copper-coated aluminum conductors was achieved. The carrier bodies with the soldered leads were then subjected to a temperature of 350 ° C. in a vacuum for 16 hours. Tensile tests 3, which were carried out after the treatment in the vacuum oven, revealed that the soldered connections remained intact, again showing the absence of any brittle intermetallic connections and thus confirming the stability of the soldered connections.
It is readily apparent now that the working temperatures to braze the ceramic body with one another or a ceramic body having a Fetallkörper in the novel Hartlotmateriallen the present invention beträcnt-Iich are lower than those which were necessary for the known from the prior art brazing materials.
Obwohl einige der Hartlötmaterialien in eutektischen Mischungen verwendet wurden, wird diesem Umstand keine Bedeutung beigemessen, da andere Mischungsverhältnisse gleichermaßen wirksam sind und ein Hartlotmaterial ergeben, welches zur ErreichungAlthough some of the brazing materials have been used in eutectic mixtures, this fact is not considered to be significant since other mixing ratios are equally effective and result in a brazing material which is suitable for achieving

So is, for example, when using an excess of aluminum as in the illustrative examples of aluminum ribbon cables, which are coated with magnesium or copper, the actual composition of the corresponding alloy in the area of the braze point determined by the extent to which magnesium or copper is in the aluminum in solution walk. Although a number of specific ceramic materials are described in the preceding parts of the specification ' has been, it goes without saying that any conventional ceramic materials using the novel Brazing materials of the present invention can be joined. Although this invention is represented by the illustration Has been described in detail, it is the aim of the claims, all equivalent forms and configurations to claim which corresponds to the spirit and scope of the preceding disclosure.
