auf Grund der Anmeldung in Frankreich vom 30. Oktober 1903 anerkannt.recognized on the basis of the registration in France on October 30, 1903.
The present invention relates to a method for producing a sulfur-free one Nickel melt with a low content of coal and silicon, which melt the large one Has the advantage of being used immediately in metallurgy without a later one To be subjected to treatment.
Nach vorliegendem Verfahren erhält man in einer einzigen Operation eine Nickelschmelze, die, wie schon hervorgehoben, unmittelbar angewendet werden kann, denn sie enthält niemals mehr als 2 Prozent Si und 2 Prozent C. So far, all nickel melts that were obtained either by the Garnier process (see patent specification 1878) or by other processes (see Schnabel, Handbuch der Metallhüttenkunde, 1st ed., Volume II, p. 615) had the disadvantage of having a small amount of silicon to have a high carbon content, the z. B. rose to 3.40 percent. It was also necessary to subject the product of the first melting to a further refinement. According to the present process, a nickel melt is obtained in a single operation, which, as already emphasized, can be used immediately, because it never contains more than 2 percent Si and 2 percent C.
The process consists essentially in an electric, non-carburizing Furnace, d. H. in a soft metal furnace, with two electrodes in series or in an induction furnace or in a furnace with a single well electrode a mixture of nickel ore, one or more suitable surcharges respectively. Fluxes like lime, clay or fluorspar and a certain amount Amount of sulfur-free coal that is small enough that the slag still contains iron, to treat, d. H. such that the nickel oxide and only part of the iron oxide is reduced will. Under these conditions, the molten nickel cannot become saturated with coal.
Dies hat zur Wirkung,In order to avoid losses of nickel, it is necessary that the ore is in the smelting room is piled up very high around the electrodes. This has the effect
1. daß die Wärmeverluste auf ein Minimum reduziert werden;1. that heat losses are reduced to a minimum;
2. daß das Kohlenoxyd, welches durch diese dicke Schicht hindurchstreichen muß und fast völlig verbrannt als Kohlensäure entweicht, für die Reduktion ausgenutzt wird;2. that the carbon monoxide, which has to pass through this thick layer and almost completely burned as carbonic acid escapes, for which reduction is used;
3. daß die Verluste an Nickel in Form von Nickelkohlenoxyd vermieden werden, welches sich in der mittleren Hitzezone bildet und in Berührung mit dem Eisenoxyd in der unmittelbar höheren Zone zerstört wird.3. that the losses of nickel in the form of nickel carbon oxide are avoided, which forms in the middle heat zone and in contact with the iron oxide is destroyed in the immediately higher zone.
Die Sohle des Ofens macht man zweckmäßig aus Magnesia, Kieselsäure oder Chromeisen und die Wandungen aus Erz, welches mehr oder minder durch die AusstrahlungThe sole of the furnace is expediently made of magnesia, silica or chrome iron and the walls of ore, which more or less by the radiation

oder durch einen Wassermantel ο. dgl. gekühlt wird.or by a water jacket ο. Like. Is cooled.
The nickel melt obtained in this way can be sold immediately; nevertheless can you subject them to an affinage, z. B. in an electric steel furnace, the iron slagged and the product is enriched in nickel indefinitely. The nickel-containing Slag is added to the feed of the first ίο reduction furnace, so that the losses are almost zero.
