If you have alkali sulphate and coal intimately mixed with bauxite or similar alumina Materials glows in such a ratio that a multiple of that If the amount which is necessary for the formation of alkali aluminate is used, then essentially alkali aluminate is formed and alkali sulfur in excess.
in Thiosulfat umgewandelt.
und Zwischenreaktionen, durch folgende Gleichung veranschaulichen: By leaching the obtained glow mass with water, a solution containing the aforementioned compounds, usually yellowish or greenish in color, is obtained, which is clarified by allowing it to settle or filtering.
Now treating this solution with sulfuric acid, which suitably takes place in the heat, as a result of the alumina bauxite 1 is obtained as a white precipitate of hydrated alumina, and at the same time the sulfur contained in the alkali solution in thiosulfate is converted. Apart from side and intermediate reactions that take place, the process can be illustrated by the following equation:
2 Na Al O2 + 2 Na2 S + 4 SO2 + 3H2O =
2 Al (OH)3 + 3Na2 S2 O8.2 Na Al O 2 + 2 Na 2 S + 4 SO 2 + 3H 2 O =
The precipitated alumina hydrate is filtered off and washed out while the solution evaporated and crystallized on thiosulfate is processed.
Remaining residue usually still holds considerable amounts of alkali and sulfur compounds back, from which further thiosulfate can be obtained. The best way to do this is to do this the residues can weather with the addition of a little milk of lime in the air or through Blowing in air can oxidize, the mass is then leached with water and from the so obtained liquid crystallize out the thiosulfate after appropriate concentration leaves.
Nowadays, bauxite is processed almost exclusively on clay hydrate by calcining this mineral with soda, leaching the formed aluminate with water, Precipitation of the alumina hydrate by means of carbonic acid (or according to Bayer's Process) and regeneration of the carbonated sodium from the carbonated one Aluminate solution. A considerable part of this goes for the purpose of aluminate formation originally related carbonate of soda into a form insoluble in water, one says "it slagged" and in this way eliminated from the process as a loss.
Man hat auch mehrfach versucht, Soda durch Anwendung von schwefelsaurem Natror. und Kohle behufs Bildung von Aluminat zu ersetzen, allein hierbei zeigte sich, daß bei Anwendung äquivalenter Mengen von Natron undAttempts have also been made several times to make soda by using sodium sulphate. and To replace coal for the formation of aluminate, here alone it was found that when used equivalent amounts of baking soda and
