Description
According to German Patent 1190184, it is known to produce high molecular weight polytriazines by polymerizing polyfunctional aromatic cyanic acid esters at elevated temperature. The high molecular weight products thus obtained are characterized, for. B. are characterized by a remarkable stability at higher temperatures and have a thermosetting character after a sufficiently long tempering. Attempts have been made to produce molded resin moldings with special technical properties by mixing their starting materials, the cyanate esters, with fillers and then polymerizing them. In analogy to other cast resin systems, both powdery fillers such as quartz flour, slate flour, sand and fibrous materials such as glass, asbestos, textile or quartz fibers were used as threads, fleeces, rovings, mats or fabrics. So one has 4,4'-Dicyanatodiphenyl-dimethylmethane soaked and then subjected to a woven glass fabric with a melt of a heat treatment at 200 0 C, for example, a plurality of layers, wherein a laminate has a very good strength values and high heat resistance was obtained in 3 hours. Other polycyanates, e.g. B. polycyanoic acid esters of novolak types, were dissolved in organic solvents and used in this form for impregnating glass fiber fabrics. After the solvent had evaporated, these fabric webs could be pressed hot in several layers one on top of the other to form laminates with very good mechanical and electrical properties. It has been shown, however, that this type of processing of the polyvalent cyanic acid esters is difficult to reproduce and, in the case of a number of cyanates, does not lead to optimal properties of the resulting molded body. The reason for this is essentially to be found in the fact that the cyanate melt passes through a very low-viscosity intermediate phase at a higher temperature before the transition into the solid, compact plastic, while the starting material is still largely unchanged.
At this stage of the process, the mass often flows out of the tissue or gives it to it resulting laminate due to uneven distribution of the binder, locally strongly scattering strength values. A similar effect occurs easily when using powdery fillers. here there is often a segregation or sedimentation of the resin-filler mixture useless moldings leads. With cyanic acid esters. those in organic solvents for impregnation are used by tissues, etc., it comes after evaporation of the solvent and even before pressing, the very brittle film on the remaining solid often crumbles off, which also results in an uneven distribution of resin in the later molded body, e.g. B. glass fiber reinforced Plastic.
It has now surprisingly been found that these difficulties can be avoided in a simple manner by combining the polyvalent aromatic cyanic acid esters with pulverulent and / or fibrous fillers or reinforcing agents, with them before or after the combination of a thermal pretreatment at temperatures of Subjects to 50 to 150 0 C, then shapes the mass obtained and hardens at temperatures of 150 to 250 ° C.
This process is based on the new finding that the cyanic acid esters increase in the trimerization Triazine derivatives go through an intermediate state that is solid at room temperature, but still fusible, or is highly viscous. The material can do a lot in this form, hereinafter referred to as "B-state" be used advantageously as a one-component casting or laminating resin, its processing independently of the pot life usual for two-component systems.
The polyvalent cyanic acid esters of novolak types, like them, have also proven to be very suitable according to the German Auslegeschrift 12 51023 also novolaks and chlorocyanate are easily available.
The respective reaction conditions for the transfer of the starting material in the »B-stage« and for the hardening of those produced in the »B-stage« Molding compound to the finished, tempered molding material depend on the type of starting material used and Z. B. the presence of catalytically active substances and can within relatively wide limits vary. When using 4,4'-dicyanatodiphenyl-dimethylmethane and similarly structured substances, without special catalysis, the »B-supply
Durch übliche gegebenenfalls mitzuverwendende Katalysatoren können Reaktionstemperaturen und -zeiten merklich herabgesetzt werden.stand «achieved by heating to temperatures between 50 and 150 ° C for a reaction time of 5 minutes to 12 hours. For the second stage, that is to cure the filled powdery or containing fiber materials reinforced composition is required usually 3 to lOstündiges heating to temperatures between 150 and 250 ° C. Particularly when curing in the temperature range below 200 0 C is often Annealing for about 1 hour at 250 ° C is recommended in order to achieve optimal technical values. The reaction temperatures and times can be reduced noticeably by customary catalysts, which may also be used.
In vielen Fällen, so z. The chemical nature of the "B-stage" described here has not yet been clearly clarified. He is defined externally by the fact that the starting material is converted into a prepolymer which is medium to high viscosity or already solid at room temperature; sometimes this mass separates a portion of crystalline substance, including still unchanged starting material, from longer storage, which can be quickly brought back into solution by heating. In the second reaction stage occurs Cross-linking to a very hard and brittle material (»state C«). In many cases, e.g. B. in the case of resins based on dicyanatodiphenyldimethylmethane and similarly built compounds, is at curing temperatures between 150 and 200 ° C clearly distinguish a thermosetting intermediate state ("state Cl"), which is very hard and is brittle and only becomes much tougher and technically interesting at temperatures above 200 to 250 ° C Product ("State C 2") passes over.
As fillers to be used according to the invention and reinforcing agents can generally be any powdery and / or fibrous products of any kind use, e.g. B. those as they are already used in the production of moldings based on unsaturated Polyester resins or epoxy resins can also be used. First and foremost, these are for example granular fillers such as quartz flour, slate flour, asbestos flour, powdered corundum, chalk, iron powder, Aluminum powder, sand, gravel and other fillers of this type, as well as inorganic or organic fibers, in particular glass fibers in the usual textile forms of fibers, threads, rovings, yarns, fleeces, Mats, fabrics, etc .; Finishes based on Aminostlan have proven their worth here. In an analogous way appropriate textile structures made of organic, preferably synthetic fibers (polyamides, polyester) or based on quartz, carbon, metals etc. as well as single crystals (whiskers) can be used.
The combination of the polyvalent aromatic cyanic acid esters to be used according to the invention with the powdery or fibrous fillers or reinforcing agents can be before or after the thermal Treatment of the aromatic cyanic acid esters and in basically any manner respectively. So it is B. possible, powder or fibrous Filling or reinforcing agents such as quartz sand or glass fabric with the polyvalent aromatic ones To impregnate or soak cyanates in solution if necessary. As usual to be used Solvents, which then usually have to be removed again, can, for. B. inert solvents such as acetone, xylene, ethyl acetate, benzene, tetrahydrofuran, chlorobenzene, dibutyl ether, dimethylformamide, Tetramelhylenesulfone in question.
B. Eisenpulver, teilweise recht starke beschleunigende Wirkung ausüben. Both stages of the trimerization reaction, the transition from the starting material to the »B-stage« and the hardening of the already high molecular weight resin from the B-stage to the final duromercn state, can optionally be used with accelerators to be activated. It should also be noted that some fillers, e.g. B. iron powder, partially exert quite a strong accelerating effect.
The process products are characterized by high mechanical strength and excellent chemical properties Resilience and very good heat resistance. The dimensional stability in the Martens heat for the unreinforced hardened resins is sometimes 250 ° C and above. The process products are therefore z. B. for all areas of application in which high strength or chemical resistance at higher temperatures are required. This is among other things especially in container and pipe construction according to the winding technology, in the electrical industry, in mold and Toolmaking and the construction of heavy-duty components in the lightweight construction of vehicles as well as in the aerospace industry.
The melt is then kept at this temperature for 48 hours. The initially thin-bodied material becomes highly viscous after this time. The hot melt is used to impregnate glass fabric webs, which are then cooled to room temperature. These pre-impregnated glass fabrics are stiff, can be rolled up if the radius is not too small and are non-sticky. They can be pressed under a pressure of 5 kp / cm 2 and at a temperature of 220 ° C within 1 hour to form a laminate with the following strength values:
Biegefestigkeit bei 23° C 2780 kp/cm2 Flexural strength at 23 ° C 2780 kp / cm 2

Eine so hergestellte Probeplatte weist folgende Fcsligkeitswerte aufQuartz sand with a grain size of about 1 mm is impregnated with a 30% solution of a phenolic resin containing cyanate groups (manufactured in accordance with DT-AS 12 51023) with a molecular weight of about 600 to 1500 in acetone, the ratio of binder to filler being about 1:10 . The solvent is removed by gentle heating, whereby a hard, tack-free mass is formed. After this has been comminuted, it can be shaped and cured in the manner of a molding compound in a steel mold at a temperature of 150 ° C. under a pressure of 10 kp / cm 2. A test plate produced in this way has the following viscosity values
