Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The invention is a new method for removing hydrogen sulfide from Gases. So far, this cleaning has only been done dry in practice made by passing the gas through hydrated iron ores, which, with the Hydrogen sulphide form iron sulphides and after exhaustion by spreading on the air can be regenerated. During ίο regeneration, iron oxide hydrate is reduced and sulfur excreted.
The method of the present invention aims at this cleaning process with a Run liquid to avoid the disadvantages of dry cleaning.
It is known that iron oxide salts are reduced to oxide salts by hydrogen sulfide can be according to the formula:
If gases containing hydrogen sulfide are passed through aqueous iron oxide salt solutions, so there is only a very small conversion according to the above formula, since the resulting Acid has an adverse effect on the reaction.
aufgehoben.A formation of sulfur iron, as in dry cleaning, cannot take place for reasons of chemical affinity.
The fact has now been observed that the formation of iron sulphide occurs when the iron oxide salts are used not in a neutral but in an alkaline solution. It is known that neutral iron oxide salt solutions lose their property of being precipitated by alkalis if they are mixed with certain non-volatile organic substances, e.g. B. tartaric acid, sugar added. By this addition, however, after the addition of caustic or carbonic acid alkalis, their precipitability by hydrogen sulfide is not canceled.
1 The novelty and essence of the present invention resides in the use of these known facts for gas purification. To carry out the process, an alkaline iron oxide solution is prepared using the organic substances mentioned and caustic or carbonic alkalis or ammonia, and this solution is used to wash the gas in the known gas washing apparatus. In the process, iron sulphide is precipitated. This easily oxidizes when it is brought into contact with air. In the process, sulfur is excreted and iron oxide hydrate is formed, which is soluble in the washing liquid.
'A content of ammonia in the gas does not interfere with the operation of the process, which can therefore be used before or after removal of the ammonia. '
It has been used for the removal of hydrogen sulphide from gases before suggested by iron salt solutions. These procedures, which, however, do not involve alka- ' For this reason, the basis of different principles is based on the fact that the solutions work in the same way. Man worked with the help of an ammonia content of the gas, through which the iron salts split and formed by precipitated iron hydroxide sulfur iron. Ammonia salts are formed in the liquid and a precipitate of sulfur
eisen. Even if this can be oxidized again, the formed iron hydroxide is no longer soluble in the liquid and thus prevents sulfur production. A more recent method (patent specification 144004) differs from that present basically in that it works with acidic solution and sulfur precipitates directly, while the method according to the present invention with alkaline Solution works and sulfur can only be obtained by oxidation of iron sulphide leaves.
