The invention relates to a method for the production of carbon moldings of different, from the porous to the dense state of the structure of modified pitch, which is enough Tar or pitch is obtained, which 1) for the purpose of achieving easy graphitability in one inert gas atmosphere of a heat treatment, 2) in order to achieve a difficult graphitizability in in one or more oxidizing gases such as oxygen, ozone, halogens or sulfur, a heat treatment, 3) for the purpose of making it easy to graphitize a solvent extraction or 4) following one or more of the above-mentioned process steps 1) to 3) for the purpose of achieving a corresponding graphitizability are subjected to a dry distillation, the from the modified pitch-shaped body is carbonized or graphitized after carbonization will.
It is generally known. Manufacture objects or structures of pronounced shape from carbon.
Das gut graphitierba MaterialIn particular, US Pat. No. 035 308 describes a process for converting coal tar and coal tar pitch in easily graphitizable pitch coke known for the production of highly conductive Graphite electrodes are used. In this known method, the raw material is first of all Sooty substances and components that are insoluble in acid-free organic pitch solvents are freed are heated, the refined starting material for the production of coke and finally the Pitch coke obtained formed into electrodes - <i by Heating graphixed. The good graphitierba material
ίο was not only used for the production of the carbon moldings, but used as an aggregate in connection with a binding agent. The known procedure thus primarily deals with the refinement of coal tar and the use of the extracted tar Pitch coke together with other materials for the production of carbon moldings that can be easily graphitized.
Aus der deutschen Patentschrift 817 269 ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von KohlenstofformstückenFrom the German patent specification 817 269 is a method for the production of carbon moldings
Bei dem bekannten Verfahren wird zur Förderung des Zusammenbackens des freien Kohlenstoffs die Verwendung von Bindemitteln empfohlen. ao known from pitch, from which free carbon is obtained after treatment in one or more operations, which is then pressed under a pressure of about 640 kg / cm 2 in a desired shape and as a molded piece in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to a temperature not below 55O "C is heated, the temperature rise being held fast, but not so slow that the shaped body swells as a result. In contrast to this known process, the subject of the invention should not consist of deposited free carbon, but of a modified one Pitch are formed, which is carbonized and optionally graphitized after molding In the known method, the use of binders is recommended to promote the caking of the free carbon.
From US Pat. No. 2,697,028 it is known to produce bodies from coal tar distillation residues shaping and heating the shaped bodies for carbonization in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, namely to a temperature at which all the hydrogen and oxygen from the shaped bodies is driven. However, this known method is based on the presence of divinylbenzene or of switched off from another vinylbenzene and makes use of addition polymerization.
Weiterhin ist aus der deutschen Auslegeschrift 1 209 037 ein Verfahren zum Herstellen von Kohleformkörpern bekannt, gemäß dem zunächst TeilchenFurthermore, the German Auslegeschrift 1 209 037 discloses a method for producing carbon molded bodies known, according to the first particle
aus Naturpyrobitumen, das selbst keine ausreichende Verpreßbarkeit zeigt und lediglich als Aggregat betrachtet werden kann, mit Asphaltbitumen als Bindemittel gemischt werden, das Gemisch zu einem Formkörper geformt, der geformte Körper bei erhöhtermade of natural pyrobitumen, which itself does not show sufficient compressibility and is only viewed as an aggregate can be mixed with asphalt bitumen as a binder, the mixture to form a molded body shaped, the shaped body at increased
Temperature of approximately 170 C to 300 0 C is treated under the action of oxygen in order to convert the binder bitumen into infusible pyrobitumen, and the shaped bodies are finally carbonized.
Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, zur Herstellung von Kohlenstofformkörpern, deren Graphitierungseigcnschaften in einem Bereich von einer leichten bis zu einer schweren Graphitierbarkeit wählbar sind und deren Gefügestruktur vom dichten bis zum porösen Zustand reicht, ein einfaches und wenig aufwendiges Verfahren zu schaffen, das als Ausgangsmaterial mit Pecharten auskommt, die durch einen geringen Aufwand modifiziert werden können, und beiThe invention is based on the object of producing carbon moldings, their graphitization properties Selectable in a range from easy to difficult graphitability and their structure ranges from dense to porous, a simple and a little to create complex process that gets by as a starting material with types of pitch, which by a can be modified with little effort, and at
dem grundsätzlich keine zusätzlichen Bindemittel erforderlich sind.which basically no additional binders are required.
To solve this problem, the method according to the invention described at the beginning is characterized in that a modified pitch with a hydrogen; Carbon atom ratio of 0.2 to 0.6 and crushed with a softening point of at least 170 C to powdery fine particles, the pulverized pitch pressed under a pressure in the range of 100 to 3000 kg / cm 2 in a desired shape and then the Molded bodies produced in this way are heated in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to a temperature between 200 ° C. and 330 ° C., based on a temperature increase of 0.1 to 3 ° C./min.
The details of the invention are to be explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments and the scope must be specified. From the following it also emerges that the invention The process of testing is not just easy to carry out is, but also leads to carbon moldings with excellent performance properties.
Diese modifizierten Pecharten sind ferner dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß bei ihnen das Wasserstoff/Kohlenstoff-Atomverhältnis zwischen 0,2 und 0,6 liegt und die Erweichungstemperatur 170 C oder höher ist.linter "modified pitch" should be all types of pitch be understood by heat treatment, by treatment with a dehydrating agent, for example Ozone, oxygen, air, halogens and sulfur, or by one with a solvent Extraction treatment carried out from coal is teeter pitch, petroleum asphalt and other tar and Pitch types that arise as industrial by-products are extracted. These modified types of pitch are also characterized in that they have the hydrogen / carbon atomic ratio is between 0.2 and 0.6 and the softening temperature is 170 C or higher.
Zahlreiche modifizierte Pecharten mit einem Wasserstoff/Kohlenstoff-Atomverhältnis in der Größenordnung von 0,60 bis 0,46 zeigen Erweichungspunkte in der Größenordnung von 170 bis 300"C.The “softening temperature” or the “softening point” should be understood to mean that temperature in which a sample in the form of a fine powder on the order of about 0.1 mm in a closed tube assumes a completely spherical shape, for which a micro-melting point measuring device is used. Numerous modified types of pitch with a hydrogen / carbon atomic ratio on the order of 0.60 to 0.46 indicate softening points on the order of magnitude from 170 to 300 "C.
Pitch types with a hydrogen / carbon atomic ratio of 0.46 to 0.40 take when they are in Powder form are heated, not a pronounced molten state, but swell in many Cases on heating when molded or cast in an inert gas atmosphere under pressure the swelling due to the formation of a semi-molten state and due to the Generation of gases is caused. Even if the pitch types with a hydrogen / carbon atomic ratio from 0.4 to 0.2 do not have a pronounced molten state when in the form of Powders can be heated, or not have a semi-molten state when in the form of a pressed are heated defüges, then these types of pitch becauseocii have sufficiently good sintering properties. The described relationship between the hydrogen / carbon atomic ratio and the softening point changes to some extent depending on whether functional groups with high thermal reactivity are present in the modified pitch.
To shape the material, a single modified pitch or a mixture of different types of pitch is ground to a desired particle size or a combination of different particle sizes. The ground particles are pressed into a shape by compression molding at a pressure of 100 to 3000 kg / cm 2. A feature of this process is that the addition of a filler such as coke particles or a binder such as pitch is not necessary. Additives such as coke and graphite can be added, especially when the softening point of the pitch is low.
The shaping according to the invention can be done by injection molding or pressing in an injection mold, compression mold or perform a hollow shape. In both cases, good results have been obtained by using the for example, about 10% or less alcohol is added to modified pitch.
In the case of a modified pitch with a softening temperature of 300 C or less, first The shaping of the pitch is carried out, then the pitch is dried and then gradually aired brought to a temperature of 200 to 300 C, the temperature rise between 0.1 and 3 C / min lies.
