Description
A solution of 0.5 mmol of TiCl 4 in 75 ml of pure dry n-heptane was introduced into a 1 liter stirred autoclave at room temperature under dry nitrogen and heated to 50.degree. A solution of 0.5 mmol of AlAtCl 2 in 50 ml of n-heptane was added, followed by evacuation. After a reaction time of 30 minutes at 50 ° C., the catalyst mixture was cooled to 0 ° C., whereupon high-purity ethylene was injected into the reactor until a pressure of 56.2 ata was reached and then heated to 40 ° C. within 5 minutes. The temperature of 40 ° C. and the pressure of 56.2 ata were maintained for 2/2 hours.
The reaction was terminated by forcing 5 mmol of NaOH into 100 ml of methanol. After the ethylene had been blown off, a small sample from the reactor was washed twice with water, dried over K 2 CO 3 and then quantitatively analyzed by gas chromatography. About 2 parts by volume of isopropanol were added to the remaining contents of the reaction vessel, causing waxy olefins to precipitate. Filtering and drying in vacuo gave 8.6 g of wax.
Das durchschnittliche Molekulargewicht, berechnet für eine einfache exponentielle Verteilung auf Grund der gaschromatographischen Analyse, betrug 168.Gas chromatographic analysis indicated that the cold heptane soluble portion of the product was greater than 20 percent by weight of the mixture and the yield was greater than 22 g. The linearity of the product was more than 99 mol percent of linear alpha-olefins, based on the C 1 "_," fraction. The average molecular weight calculated for a simple exponential distribution based on gas chromatographic analysis was 168.
The procedure of Example 1 was repeated, but the reaction temperature was lowered to 20 ° C. The yield of wax was only 2.4 g, and the total product had a lower molecular weight M n than the product obtained according to Example 1 at 40.degree.
