Description
Power supply apparatus for a power tube The invention relates to a power supply device for a magnetron used as an oscillator tube, in particular Delay and safety features in this device.
As a power supply device for a magnetron serving as an oscillator tube, a heavy-duty device is usually used, which delivers relatively high voltages and currents to the tube, so that the microwave energy required for cooking, telecommunication purposes and various other purposes is generated. These power supplies usually have a heavy-duty transformer so that the high power can be properly controlled, ie that the voltage and current applied to the magnetron are kept relatively constant during its operating time. When the power supply is switched on, the transformer has a very low impedance for the current, so that a current surge occurs initially. This current surge not only affects the feed line, but also generates high single oscillation voltages in the power supply device, which can be harmful to the components of the device and also to the magnetron. This current surge is now to be eliminated or at least reduced to a low level.
It is customary to use a current limiter connected in series with the transformer to reduce the input current surges that occur when a power transformer is switched on, which is removed from the circuit after a short time so that the transformer receives full power. For example, a relay was used that is switched on at the same time as the transformer and whose contact bridges the current limiter. As a result of the delay effect of the relay, this contact is closed after a short period of time during which the relay has built up a magnetic field that is sufficient to attract the armature carrying the contact. With a mains frequency of 60 Hz, this delay should be at least 8 milliseconds. Preferably the delay is about 20-30 milliseconds. This period of time is sufficient to generate a symmetrical flow of force in the core of the transformer, so that it has a sufficiently large impedance for the current. To achieve the necessary delay, the relay must be larger and heavier than would otherwise be required for the voltages in question. This makes the device expensive and unwieldy and increases its power consumption.
The invention now aims to provide an improved power supply device for a magnetron used as an oscillator tube. Further aims the invention, an improved one for a magnetron used as an oscillator tube To create power supply device which reduces the inrush current in the primary winding of its power transformer.
Another purpose of the invention is to use as an oscillator tube used magnetron to create a power supply that draws on the anode current of the magnetron responds and automatically applies full power if enough strong anode current flows.
Also, it is a purpose of the invention for one as an oscillator tube used magnetron to create a power supply that is automatic from its power source when the power supply is not delivering power or the magnetron is not conducting electricity.
Further purposes and advantages of the invention are evident from the following Description.
To achieve the above and related For purposes, the invention resides in those described in detail below and in the features specified in the claims. The following description and the attached The drawings serve to explain in detail an exemplary embodiment of the invention.
The drawing shows a circuit diagram of the one designed according to the invention Power supply device.
In the drawing, the primary winding 11 of a transformer 10 is connected to an alternating current source 12, and the secondary winding 13 of the transformer applies a higher voltage to a magnetron 15 used as an oscillator tube. A rectifier 18 converts the output of the Tranaformators into DC current which is applied to the magnetron. This rectifier consists of the usual bridge rectifier. The end points 19 and 20 of one bridge diagonal are connected to the secondary winding of the transformer. The two end points 21 and 22 of the other bridge diagonal represent a direct current source to which the magnetron is connected. The winding 24 of a relay 25 is connected in series with the magnetron and the DC power source. The relay 25 therefore responds to the flow of current through the magnetron 15. When the current flowing through the relay winding 24 has reached a predetermined strength, the relay 25 picks up and thereby closes its contact set 26, 27. In series with the primary circuit 11 of the transformer 10, an on-off switch 32 and the alternating current source 12 a current limiter 30 switched. The normally open contact set 26, 27 of the relay is connected in parallel to the current limiter 30.
When the circuit breaker 32 is closed, the current flowing through the primary winding 11 of the transformer is weakened by the impedance of the current limiter 30. A relatively low voltage appears across the secondary winding 13 of the transformer and is rectified by the rectifier 18. As a result, current flows through the winding 24 of the relay and through the magnetron 15. As a result of the low voltage applied to the transformer, a symmetrical flow of force is generated in the core of the transformer 10, so that the impedance of the transformer is increased. The full power is now applied to the transformer without a strong current surge occurring, which would put a heavy load on the alternating current source 12 and generate a high single oscillation voltage in the secondary winding 13 of the transformer, which could lead to the destruction of components. The relay 25 has such a characteristic that it responds to the weak current which is emitted by the rectifier 18 and flows through the magnetron 15, and that under the action of this current, the contact set 26, 27 is closed and therefore the full heat to the Transformer 10 is applied. In practice, a small DC relay can be used as the slow increase in the magnetron's anode current allows a delay of 20-30 milliseconds to be achieved. The magnetron 15 used as an oscillator tube is known per se: when a suitable voltage is applied between its anode 35 and cathode 36 and a suitable magnetic field is present, it generates microwave energy. It is not important whether the magnetron 15 generates the radio frequency energy even at the low voltages that are present during the delay time. It is sufficient that the magnetron acts in a manner similar to that of a conventional tube and that its current intensity is proportional to the voltage between its anode and cathode. When the magnetron is operated at this reduced voltage, the magnetic field present within the tube envelope and the physical properties of the tube itself cause the current to lag behind the applied voltage so that the required delay is achieved.
This delay can. can be changed by the fact that the winding 24 of the relay 25 a capacitance 40 is connected in parallel, as from the striehlierten Lines in the drawing. This capacitance 40 briefly conducts a weak one Current and thus forms a shunt until the Capacity loaded is. This is known in the art. One can use a smaller relay, though shunted to the winding 24 with a second set of contacts 46, 47 of the relay 25 resistor 42 connected in series is arranged. This is in the drawing also indicated by dashed lines. Most of it flows through this resistance of the current when the relay 25 has picked up and full power is applied. This shunt resistance 42 also affects the operational characteristics of the relay 25 in that its drop-out current is higher than its pull-in current. However, changing the waste stream strength is not important as it is common to maintain approximately the full amperage in the magnetron in the operating state.
Man. can also recognize that relay 25 is responsive to a failure of components of the power supply. If one of the diodes of the rectifier 18 fails or the secondary winding 13 of the transformer 10 is interrupted or short-circuited, the current strength generated by the device is insufficient to attract the relay 25. Even if the magnetron 15 fails because the filament 50 is interrupted or because there is a faulty circuit , the rectifier 18 does not emit any current, so that the relay 25 f does not pick up.
In the exemplary embodiment shown, the current limiter 30 is a resistor. However, it can also consist of any other device which limits the current intensity in the primary winding 11 of the transformer 10. Another feature of the invention is that the current-carrying capacity of the current limiter 30 can be lower than the strength of the current flowing through the limiter and the primary winding 11 of the transformer 10. In such an arrangement, the current limiter 30 becomes overloaded and fails so that the circuit is broken if the current limiter 30 remains in the circuit of the primary winding of the transformer for longer than a short period of time. During normal operation of the device, the contact set 26, 27 of the relay closes before the current limiter 30 fails, so that the current supplied to the primary winding 11 of the transformer 10 flows completely through the contact set 26, 27. The current limiter 30 thus acts as a delayed fuse which opens the circuit if a fault occurs in the circuit to reduce or prevent an anode current. The current limiter 30 is usually dimensioned in such a way that it limits the primary current to a value which is so low that no damage to another component occurs.
From the drawing and the preceding description it can thus be seen that that the invention for a magnetron used as an oscillator tube is a power supply creates with safety devices. The inrush currents are automatic minimized and faults of components or the consumer will be automatic recognized and trigger corresponding effects.
