Description
Arrangement for liquid cooling of a rectifier cell The invention relates to an arrangement for liquid cooling a rectifier cell for high Currents with a monocrystalline semiconductor body, in particular a thyristor, the is arranged in a disc-shaped housing, which is directly or indirectly rests against a heat sink through which a liquid flows.
With increasing size of primary-controlled silicon rectifiers and thyristors, the power increase is increasing to a problem the dissipation of waste heat. From a thyristor with a "trnn of for example 1000 A with a voltage drop of 1.3 V must already dissipate 1.3 kW as heat will. A decisive step forward in solving this problem was brought by dfe Arrangement of the thyristors in a disc-shaped housing, which in general is called a disc cell. The power loss occurring in such a cell can be delivered to a cooling body from both flat sides of the disc cell. The air cooling of such high capacity cells is due to various factors, in particular due to the size of the heat sinks and the required fans as well as the air pollution in the factories of many users, limits are set. The liquid cooling of the cells leads to a smaller size and better cooling effect the heat sink and thus enables the dissipation of larger power losses a cell.
Because of the different cooling behavior of liquids with different Temperatures, several coolants are to be considered. It surrenders from this the task of designing the heat sink so that its heat dissipation at different liquids remains roughly the same.
It is known that the heat flow in the same way as. the electric current is influenced by resistors of various types, in particular the thermal conduction resistance and the heat transfer resistance. The permissible temperature increase of the cooling liquid in the heat sink is determined by the maximum permissible temperature of the silicon semiconductor body, which at the moment should not significantly exceed 1100 C. Since the temperature difference is fixed, the total thermal resistance of the cooling device must be kept small if a large heat flow is to be achieved. It has already been proposed (application S 97 37'i: 'IIIe / 21g -PZA 65/1332) to arrange a heat sink through which the cooling liquid flows on both flat sides of the cell housing, the cooling circuit being connected to the cell housing in a way that conducts heat well, however is electrically isolated. In such an arrangement, all the heat sinks of a power converter system can be connected to a common cooling circuit. Copper, in particular electrolytic copper, can expediently be used as the material for the heat sinks. In addition to silver, copper has a high coefficient of thermal conductivity. "The invention is based on the knowledge that the heat sink can have approximately the same heat dissipation capacity for several cooling liquids of different thermal conductivity due to a special structural design. This knowledge is based on the following considerations. The heat sink generally has in radial direction of the disk cell has a significantly larger expansion than the cell itself, in particular a larger expansion than the contact surface of the heat sink on a flat side of the cell of cell housing and heat sink and is generally a circular area, and whose path length is determined by the height of the massive part of the heat sink. The total thermal resistance for this heat flow is thus determined by the heat conduction resistance of this heat sink part and the heat transfer resistance between the heat sink and the cooling liquid in the cross section mentioned. Furthermore, there is a peripheral heat flow, the cross section of which is determined by the radial boundary surface of the central flow, which is a cylinder jacket surface in the case of a circular support surface of the heat sink, and the path length of which is determined by the expansion of the heat sink in the radial direction of the support surface approximately cylindrical can shape be the diameter of this can. The total resistance for this partial flow thus results from the heat conduction resistance of this heat sink part and the heat transfer resistance for the corresponding cross section. The total thermal resistance results from the sum of these individual resistances. As is well known, the heat transfer resistance becomes smaller, the greater the heat transfer coefficient. Water has a relatively high heat transfer coefficient and would therefore be particularly suitable as a cooling liquid. On the other hand, however, it has the disadvantage that it only has sufficient dielectric strength with a high degree of purity and, furthermore, it has a relatively high freezing point at 00 ° C. The aim is therefore to use cooling liquids in power converter systems with a. high insulation strength and the lowest possible freezing point or freezing point. These requirements are met, for example, by hexachlorobutadiene C4 C16 (tripene). The heat transfer coefficient of this liquid is, however, considerably greater than that of water, ie it does not take up the heat as "readily" as water. In an embodiment of the cooling body according to the invention, the heat dissipation can be kept approximately constant with the same flow rate of the coolant, regardless of the type of coolant used. Accordingly, the invention relates to an arrangement for liquid cooling of a rectifier cell for high currents with a monocrystalline semiconductor body, in particular a thyristor, which is arranged in a disk-shaped housing which is directly or indirectly in contact with at least one heat sink through which the cooling liquid flows Expansion of the heat sink in the direction parallel to the contact surface between the heat sink and the cell to the thickness of the bottom part of the heat sink resting on the cell housing is not significantly more than 8: 1, preferably less than 6: 1, in particular about 4: 1 only the central part of the heat sink directly adjacent to the cell is involved in the dissipation of heat as soon as the thickness of the wall thickness of the heat sink in relation to its expansion falls below a predetermined ratio Reference is made to drawing, in which an embodiment of a cooling device according to the invention is illustrated.
Figure 1 shows a cross section through a liquid heat sink according to the invention.
In FIG. 2, a section through the heat sink according to FIG. 1 is shown.
In Figure 3, the thermal resistance of a heat sink is dependent of its bottom thickness at a constant flow rate of the coolant for different spatial expansions of the heat sink in. a diagram schematically to illustrate.
According to FIG. 1, the heat sink 2 can be a silicon rectifier cell 3, for example a thyristor, for high currents of, for example, more than 1000 A, expediently as a cylinder with an outside diameter of at least i7 100 mm, in particular about 140 to 220 mm, its on the rectifier cell adjacent flat side advantageously with a projection 4 in the form of a truncated cone can be provided whose top surface with the diameter d of, for example, about 4 cm can be pressed against the housing of the rectifier cell, which is preferably can be designed in the shape of a disk, as indicated in the figure. If that Housing of the rectifier cell 3 change the one facing the heat sink Flat side is designed completely flat, so the frustoconical projection of the Eliminate the heat sink and attach the rectifier cell 3 directly to the upper flat side of the heat sink 22 are applied. The floor height H should be at least 5 mm, preferably about 3C to 5 :) mm, to be chosen to allow the spread of heat in the peripheral Heat flow W2 is not obstructed and the central heat flow Wi is relieved accordingly will. On the top surface of the cylindrical heat sink opposite the cell housing 2 webs or ribs 5 are arranged, which each have the same row and together with a cover 6 of the cooling body, one cooling channel or, under certain circumstances, several Form cooling channels.
Will the width of the cooling channels and the thickness of the partitions between the channels, that is the web width, small, as it is necessary to achieve a large heat transfer s area is desirable in a small space, one must have a high pump pressure apply to the cooling liquid with a sufficient for the heat transfer Driving speed through the narrow and long canals. Furthermore, with tight Channels the turbulence of the liquid flow with their good heat dissipating Properties requested. In addition, there is a greater effort in production such channels. It has now been found that the thermal resistance is different Coolant depending on the flow velocity and the design of the cooling duct can change considerably under certain circumstances. Cooling boxes with smaller dimensions and accordingly short cooling channel can use water as a coolant under certain circumstances the same and at higher flow velocities even smaller Have thermal resistances than larger heat sinks with a correspondingly long cooling channel. On the other hand, it has been found that the ratios for hexachlorobutadiene and transformer oil as a coolant are the other way round: Large heat sinks have low thermal resistance, while the small heat sinks have a very high thermal resistance. A large heat sinks must also have a correspondingly thick base so that the Heat from the cone 4 over a large cross section with the lowest possible heat conduction resistance can flow to the outermost cooling channels.
Now, however, the smaller heat sinks are much more different from the The flow rate of the cooling liquid depends on the size of the heat sink with a relatively thick bottom. One reason is to be seen in the fact that the Thermal resistance of the small cans mainly determined by the heat transfer resistance which depends to a greater extent on the flow velocity, while the large doses predominantly heat conduction resistances and thus on the flow velocity contain independent parts of the total thermal resistance. Goes the liquid speed against very high values, one obtains for both small and large cooling boxes Limit values that are determined by the fact that the heat transfer resistance is very small is .and the entire thermal resistance essentially only through the thermal line resistances certainly will. Conversely, when the liquid velocity is very low, the transition resistance predominates and almost exclusively determines the total resistance, which is then correspondingly high becomes: Furthermore, the dependence of the pump performance on the flow velocity of the coolant must be taken into account when designing the heat sink. For it was recognized that with small doses only with a much higher flow velocity the same low Thermal resistances as with the heavy cans can be achieved. The required Pump performance increases with decreasing heat sink size with at least approximately the third power.-Also speaks for the choice of a relatively large cooling box the correspondingly large heat capacity of such cans, which in the event of a short-term failure of the liquid circulation with their large copper mass store the lost heat and can prevent the immediate destruction of the thyristor due to overheating. Further the large doses are relatively insensitive to fluctuations in the flow rate. After these considerations, it seems appropriate for the dissipation of heat from -a rectifier with about 800 to 1000 A rated current the diameter of a cylindrical The heat sink should not be smaller than 100 mm, preferably larger than 140 mm.
According to FIG. 2, the cooling channel can advantageously be in the form of a double Spiral be formed, die.only a single reversal of direction the Direction of flow conditional. Hei an outer diameter of the cylindrical heat sink with about 140 mm, a channel height of about 10 mm and a channel width of about 4 mm and a web width of about 3.5 mm, it has nine fluid circuits. The relationship the width to the height of the cooling channel can be approximately 1: 2 in connection with the invention can be chosen, the thickness of the web between the turns of the cooling channel to be roughly the same or not significantly smaller than the width of the cooling channel and for manufacturing reasons, it is advisable to have a channel width of about 4 mm can be maintained. When increasing or decreasing the cylinder diameter then only increases or decreases the number of fluid circulations accordingly.
A @, eionders simple way of producing a cooling channel in the form the illustrated double spiral or, for example, for a different one outer @ shape of the heat sink a cooling channel with parallel to each other Sections of the channel result from the fact that das.Kanalprofil in the heat sink is crushed by means of a correspondingly shaped die. The channel profile can then be produced by a single impact or upsetting process, wherein the heat sink can be heated appropriately. The profile can however with accordingly higher pressure can also be hammered into the cold heat sink. Furthermore can such a cooling channel. system also economical thanks to electrolytic lowering produce. The adjacent to both flat sides of the disk cell 3 Heat sinks can use a pressure or clamping device with a clamping pressure P of about 600 kg, for example, can be pressed against the cell housing. To this For this purpose, a pressure plate can be placed on the cover 6 of the heat sink or the cover 6 itself can be designed as a pressure body and for this purpose for example substantially in the shape of a cone, as shown in FIG a dash-dotted line is indicated.
Under certain circumstances it can be useful to connect the cooling channels with the webs 5 to be produced separately from the heat sink 2 and as a special body part with a corresponding To arrange a seal between the actual heat sink 2 and the cover 6. In FIG. 3 is the thermal resistance R KD of the cooling boxes as a function of the base thickness H for different diameters D at a constant flow rate of the coolant Hexachlorobutadiene (tripene) of v = 2 m / sec plotted in a diagram. One recognises the sudden reduction in thermal resistance in a heat sink with a Diameter of D = 110 mm compared to the same heat sink with a diameter of 46 mm. The thermal resistance of a heat sink with a diameter of 170 mm and a base thickness of 10 mm decreases by about half when the floor thickness is increased to 25 mm.
