Description
B. solche in Brennstoffelementen. . The subject matter of the invention is summarized in the preceding claim. The term hydrogenation reactions also includes hydrogenolysis and the electrochemical processes are e.g. B. those in fuel elements.
The catalyst is manufactured according to the so-called Adams process. This creates an intimate one homogeneous mixture of oxides, here called mixed oxide and not just a purely physical mixture the oxides. The catalyst obtained in oxide form can be reduced. In practice, of course, takes place such a reduction takes place in situ when working with the catalyst. But it can also be used before use of the catalyst.
In practicing the invention, it is preferred to use 2 to 7% by weight ruthenium, very satisfactory results are generally obtained when using 3 to 6% by weight will.
Das Adams-Verfahren als solches ist z. B. aus Angew. Chemie 67 (1955) 236 bekannt.The Adams method as such is e.g. B. from Angew. Chemie 67 (1955) 236 known.
Of course, the catalyst can either be supported on a suitable carrier or not be used.
Catalysts based on ruthenium and / or platinum are known in principle. For example shows the DT-AS 10 81992 the mechanical mixture of a metal of the platinum group and an acidic oxide, this being essential for the catalytic effect and not just serving as a carrier. The DT-AS 10 82 245 shows a supported catalyst containing palladium and ruthenium, which, however quite different from a catalyst based on ruthenium and platinum, in particular because of the much higher susceptibility to corrosion, which is particularly important in fuel elements falls. The catalytic activity is also different. From DT-AS 10 69 135 are physical mixtures of elemental ruthenium and / or ruthenium oxide with a minor amount of another platinum metal or oxide known. However, it is essential for the present catalyst that it be at least 90% by weight of platinum and a maximum of 10% by weight of ruthenium, each based on the oxide form, consists. This shows e.g. B. a comparison with a similar catalyst made of ruthenium metal, which is mixed with another metal from the platinum group, in particular platinum, palladium or rhodium is, wherein ruthenium makes up 20 to 95 wt .-% of the catalytically active partial content of the catalyst. Also like that of DT-AS 10 69 135, this catalyst is a mechanical mixture. A comparison experiment is given in the examples and shows that in the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene, maleic acid, cyclohexene or nitroaniline the activity around 2 powers of ten below that of the catalyst according to the invention located. CH-PS 1 98 702 shows a catalyst based on Ru and another metal of the platinum group, not through joint precipitation of the components, but through alloy formation is preserved. The alloys are heated above the recrystallization temperature for so long a distinct grain is formed.
The catalyst is therefore not in the form of mixed oxides, i.e. a special structure that is retained even after reducing. These catalysts of the CH-PS serve the very specific Task to catalyze the oxidation of ammonia. The catalyst of the invention is much more versatile and particularly a reducing catalyst of great activity.
Production is shown below using a specific example.
Herstellungsbeispiel für KatalysatorPreparation example for catalyst
Danach wurde die Mischung im Vakuum über Calciumchlorid getrocknetAmmonium chloroplatinate and ruthenium trichloride were intimately ground together in a mortar in the required proportions in such relative amounts that the amount of metal reached 7.5 g. The mixed salts were then gradually added in small amounts and with constant stirring to 200 g of molten sodium nitrate at a temperature of 380 to 400 ° C. When the entire mixture had been added, the temperature of the melt was increased to 460 to 480 ° C. and held at this temperature for 10 minutes. The melt was then allowed to solidify and leached with water while it was still warm. The oxide mixture that remained was separated off and washed first thoroughly by decanting and then by filtering until it was free of chloride. The mixture was then dried over calcium chloride in vacuo
The oxide catalyst obtained in this way can be used directly. If, for example, a few mg of the platinum-ruthenium mixed oxide are placed in a beaker with 20% H 2 O 2 , a vigorous reaction takes place immediately with evolution of hydrogen. After the end of the reaction, it is found that the mixed oxide material is unchanged.
However, the catalyst can also be reduced before use.
If the catalyst is used in a fuel element, it is preferably connected to a Mounted electrode, either an electrically conductive metal foil or plate, e.g. B. made of copper, which is made insensitive to the effects of electrolytes by means of a noble metal layer, or but a non-conductive foil made conductive by a noble metal layer.
Die folgenden Anwendungsbeispiele erläutern die Erfindung. Dabei sind teilweise Vergleichsversuche einander gegenübergestellt. The following application examples illustrate the invention. Some of these are comparative tests juxtaposed.

Wie aus Tabelle II zu ersehen ist, ist die Aktivität erfindungsgemäßer Katalysatoren derjenigen von Katalysatoren, die nur aus Platin bestehen, stark überlegen, wobei die Aktivität mit wachsendem Prozentgehalt an Ruthenium in der Mischung bis zu einem Maximum bei ungefähr 7,5% Ru ansteigtAs can be seen from Table II, the activity is inventive catalysts of those of catalysts which consist only of platinum, strongly superior, the activity with increasing percentage of ruthenium in the mixture up to a maximum increases at about 7.5% Ru
From Table III it can be seen that according to the invention In all of the hydrogenations mentioned, catalysts are more active than catalysts made from pure platinum. in the In the case of 2-methyl-3-butyn-2-ol and phenylacetylene, the highest activity was found with a catalyst which contained 5 atomic% Ru. A similar degree of efficiency was found in the case of pyridine hydrogenation.
In the maleic acid hydrogenation, the activity of a Ru containing 13.2 atom% (= 7.3% by weight) was Almost twice the size of a platinum catalyst. Increased activity was found in this catalyst also in the hydrogenation of o-nitroaniline.
