Description
Coating agent for laminate boards There are already laminate boards with refined outer surface for the production of furniture, table tops and the like. known, which consist of a plate base on which a colored or with a decorative pattern printed surface structure is glued, which in turn by a transparent surface layer is protected. So far, the transparent one has now been used Surface layer made of a thermosetting synthetic resin, in particular melamine resin, Impregnated paper layer produced on the fabric provided with a decorative pattern is applied. The transparent surface layer produced in this way however, has insufficient abrasion resistance for many applications. All previous attempts, the abrasion resistance by adding fillers, in particular Silicic acid, improving it, will have impairment of other important properties guided.
It is also already a coating agent for the production of surface layers known that consists of a thermosetting synthetic resin, in particular water-soluble melamine-formaldehyde resin, and fillers in the form of finely divided silica and glass fibers and optionally Pigments.
Furthermore, a coating agent for production is already more scratch-resistant Surface layers on laminated bodies made of paper, wood or fabric have become known, which consists of melamine resin, glass fibers and titanium dioxide. One from this coating agent The surface layer produced is not, however, due to the presence of titanium dioxide transparent.
It is also already a method for applying a Surface layer on wood veneer has become known in which a clear thermosetting Polyester resin is used in conjunction with synthetic resin fiber, which approximates the have the same refractive index as the thermosetting resin. By storing of fibers with the same refractive index, the transparency of the surface layer remains obtain.
It has now been found, unexpectedly, that a coating agent, which in addition to a thermosetting synthetic resin both milled and finely divided silica Contains fibrous material which has approximately the same refractive index as the hardened material Synthetic resin, a clear surface layer with greatly improved abrasion resistance results.
The invention therefore relates to a coating agent for laminate boards, which consists of the aqueous solution of a thermosetting synthetic resin and fillers and which is characterized in that it contains ground silica as filler and contains a finely divided pulp having about the same refractive index as the hardened resin has.
In particular, melamine resin is used in the coating agent according to the invention used. Cellulose flakes are preferably used as the fiber material. the Particle size of the ground silica used should not be greater than 2 microns be. Based on the amount of synthetic resin, the silica content is 5 to 30 percent by weight and the fiber content 10 to 40 percent by weight. Preferably the coating agent sodium carboxymethyl cellulose in one as a tack reducing agent Amount of 1 to 3% added.
To produce a laminate board, the first step is to print the Flat structure, which usually consists of cellulose or rayon paper, with soaked in the thermosetting resin and removed the excess resin. The soaked, printed or colored paper layer is then covered with the Coating agent made of thermosetting synthetic resin, ground silica, dissolved in water and finely divided pulp and fed through a drying oven. the The base plate is impregnated with a thermosetting synthetic resin in the usual way and usually consists of several layers, for example made of resin paper. The dried paper layer is on laid the plate underlay and pressed with this with the application of heat to form a laminate board.
The invention will now be explained using examples.

The backing was made up of seven layers of hard paper with one Thickness of 0.275 mm each. The hard paper layers were covered with a 50% solution of a phenol-formaldehyde resin and soaked in an oven at a Dried at 140 to 170 ° C for 1 to 2 minutes. The resin content of the The base layer was 40% of the total weight.
The treatment of the printed fabric is based on drawings explained in more detail, in which shows: F i g. 1 is a schematic representation of a device for the continuous impregnation and coating of a printed paper web, F i g. 2 shows a section through a known laminate board and FIG. 3 a section by a laminate board produced using the coating agent according to the invention.
An alpha paper printed with a corresponding pattern becomes, like from Fig. 1 can be seen, unwound from a roll 1 and through a drinker: tub 2 passed through with a 50 ° / jgen aqueous solution of a melamine resin is filled with the properties given above. The paper is .therewith soaked in the synthetic resin, so that it was related to the dried state Resin content of 33 to 420 /, has. Avoid getting on the soaked and wet paper layer, excess resin remains because of the subsequent Coating with the coating agent difficulties could arise. For this The reason is that the printed paper is passed between two rotating pressure rollers 3 and 4, thereby stripping excess resin from the surface of the printed paper will.
Coating agent5 with the composition specified above flows through a nozzle 7 above the pressure roller 4 on the surface of the soaked and wet Paper and is distributed evenly with the help of a scraper: 6 so that on the Paper creates a coating agent layer with a desired thickness. The soaked and coated paper then passes through a drying oven heated with hot air (not shown in the drawing) with a conveyor for transporting the paper web is equipped. The drying temperature is 140 to 170 ° C, the duration: the Drying approximately 3 to 5 minutes. The dried coating agent layer has a weight of 0.11 to 0.16 kg / m2. The dried and coated, printed Paper should have only 2 to 5%, preferably only 2 to 3%, volatile constituents .contain.
The dried and coated paper, after being cut to size, is placed on a layered base that has also been cut accordingly and combined between two polished stainless steel plates under the action of heat and pressure to form a laminate plate. The pressing time is 20 to 25 minutes, the temperature 130 to 150 ° C and the pressure 70 to 100 atmospheres. The laminate board is allowed to cool down in the press to 40 ° C and only then is it removed.
In the F i g. 2 and 3 show the separated layers of a laminate plate of known design and a laminate plate produced according to the invention. As shown in FIG. 2 as can be seen, the plate base consists of seven layers. The printed layer 9 rests on the plate base 8 and is covered by a cover layer 10. In the case of the in FIG. 3, the plate base 11 also consists of seven layers, but the printed layer 12 is only provided with a surface layer 13 made of the coating agent.
Eight laminate board samples according to Example 1 were produced. The individual samples only differed with regard to the proportion of flakes the coating agent and the thickness of the surface layer. The eight samples were according to standard sheet LP2-1.06 of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) checked. The test results as well as the composition and thickness of the surface layer are listed in Table A below.
The stain resistance of an inventive produced laminate board is much better than that of the known laminate boards. The heat resistance of the surface layer produced according to the invention is essentially the same as the heat resistance of the known surface layers.
The addition of an anti-sticking agent is not essential required but advantageous. The plate support can be made with the usual thermosetting Synthetic resins are impregnated, for example with a phenol-formaldehyde resin. For impregnating the printed paper layer and for producing the coating agent a condensation product of melamine and an aldehyde is preferably used. Ground silica found in nature gives excellent results. When using ground silica with a particle size greater than 2 microns The press plates used to press the laminate panels wear out. When using extremely fine silica, e.g. silica gel, no benefits were found. Get more for every 100 parts of solid resin added than 30 parts by weight of silica, there is a risk of fogging or streaking. Even with the addition of 5 parts by weight, an improvement is achieved Abrasion resistance achieved. An addition of 10 parts by weight of silica is considered optimal to watch.
Any fiber material can be used as the finely divided fiber material whose refractive index is equal to that of the hardened one used in the coating agent Resin is. The refractive index of the cured one used in Example 1 Melamine resin is 1.63 to 1.65, while the refractive index of cellulose fibers is about 1.57. A difference in the index of refraction of the hardened resin and pulp on the order of 0.25 should still be flawless Ensure transparency of the surface layer.
Cellulose flakes are preferably used as the pulp. It but can also use cotton; Rayon, viscous silk, fiberglass, etc. are used will. If too long fiber particles are used, coating can be a problem of the printed surface structure aggravating lump formation occur. Preferably one uses fibrous materials that are still through a sieve of 40 meshes per centimeter step through. Fiber particles, the length of which corresponds to the width, carry hardly contributes to the solidification of the surface layer. Per 100 parts of solid resin if 10 to 40 parts of fiber are used: Optimal results are obtained when used from 10 to 30 parts of fiber per 100 parts of solid resin.
Instead of the board supports described, resin boards, Board supports made from particle board, plywood, vulcanized fiber, aluminum, etc. be used.
