Es ist bekannt, daß Triester der phosphorigen Säure mit höhersiedenden Monoalkoholen außerordentlich
leicht umgeestert werden können, wobei je nach den Mengenverhältnissen der Reaktionsteilnehmer entweder
gemischte Trialkylphosphite oder reine Trialkylphosphite des hochsiedenden Alkohols gebildet
werden.
Es sind ferner Umsetzungen von Trialkyl- und Triarylphosphiten mit Glykolen bekanntgeworden, die
zu cyclischen Triestern der phosphorigen Säure führen.
Nach der USA.-Patentschrift 2 961 454 erhält man aus 2 Mol Tris-(2-chlorpropyl)-phosphit mit 1 Mol
Pentaerythrit das bicyclische Phosphit der Formel

Gegenstand der Erfindung ist nun ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyestern durch Polykondensieren
von Tri-(/J-halogenalkyl)-phosphit mit einem
Überschuß eines Polyalkylenglykols bei erhöhter Temperatur, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man das
Phosphit mit Triäthylenglykol polykondensiert, wobei man je Mol des Phosphits 1,1 bis 2 Mol Triäthylenglykol
verwendet.
Aus der französischen Patentschrift 1 205 211 ist es unter anderem bekannt, Trialkylphosphite mit einem
Überschuß eines mehrwertigen Alkohols in Gegenwart eines Katalysators bei Temperaturen von 90 bis
2000C umzuestern, wobei unter Abspaltung von Monoalkoholen harzartige Polyester mit einem mehr
oder weniger hohen Vernetzungsgrad erhalten werden. Vernetzte Polyester werden aber im Falle der Verwendung
von zweiwertigen Alkoholen nur erhalten, wenn alle drei Estergruppen des Trialkylphosphits an
der Umesterung teilnehmen.
Demgegenüber führt das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zu dünnflüssigen, unvernetzten, praktisch linear
aufgebauten Polyestern, da eine /3-Halogenalkylgruppe
des eingesetzten Tri-(/3-halogenalkyl)-phosphits praktisch nicht an der Umesterung teilnimmt und somit
im Endprodukt verbleibt. Derartige dünnflüssige Polyester sind vorzüglich als Weichmacher und Stabilisatoren
für Halogen enthaltende Polymere geeignet.
Aus der britischen Patentschrift 796 446 ist es bekannt, saure Phosphite (Dialkylphosphite) mit Glykolen
in Gegenwart eines Umesterungskatalysators zu sauren Polydialkylphosphiten umzuestern. Bei diesem
ao Verfahren werden gegenüber dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren andere Ausgangsphosphite eingesetzt und
andersartige Endprodukte erhalten, so daß ein Vergleich mit den Produkten des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens
nicht möglich ist.
Aus der deutschen Auslegeschrift 1 011 866 ist es unter anderem bekannt, 1 Mol Trichloräthanolphosphorigsäureester
mit 1,2 Mol Diäthylenglykol (bzw. Hexandiol-1,6) unter Abspaltung von Chloiäthanol
bei Temperaturen bis 100° C umzuestern, wobei Phosphorigsäureester erhalten werden, die an
jedem Phosphorsäureatom noch einen Chloräthanolrest tragen. Die Produkte sind zähe, elastische Harze
bzw. Blöcke, die nach den Angaben dieser Schrift wahrscheinlich vernetzt sind.
Demgegenüber werden nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung überraschenderweise bereits bei Verwendung
von 1,1 Mol Triäthylenglykol pro Mol Tri-(/?-halogenalkyl)-phosphit
bei Temperaturen von 60 bis 180° C niedrigviskose, unvernetzte, praktisch lineare PoIyester,
die praktisch an jedem Phosphoratom noch einen Chloräthanolrest enthalten, gewonnen, die auf
Grund ihrer niedrigen Viskosität vorzüglich als Weichmacher und Stabilisatoren für Halogen enthaltende
Polymere geeignet sind.
Als Beispiele für geeignete Tri-C/ß-halogenalkyl)-phosphite
seien genannt: Tri-(2-chlorcyclohexyl)-phosphit, Tri-dS-chloräthyfJ-phosphit, Tri-(2-brompropyl)-phosphit.
Das Verfahren der Erfindung erfolgt bei erhöhter Temperatur, vorteilhaft bei 60 bis 180° C, und gegebenenfalls
unter Druck, so daß der aus dem Phosphit frei werdende Monoalkohol kontinuierlich abdestüliert.

Katalysatoren sind beim Verfahren der Erfindung im allgemeinen nicht erforderlich, doch können
alkalische oder auch saure Katalysatoren verwendet werden.
Die nach dem Verfahren der Erfindung zugänglichen Polyester weisen eine OH-Zahl zwischen 30 und 800
auf. Sie stellen mehr oder minder viskose, farblose Polyester dar und können zur Herstellung von Epoxydharzen
sowie als Schmiermittel verwendet werden. Insbesondere eignen sie sich als Weichmacher und Stabilisatoren
für Halogen enthaltende Polymere.
In 540 Gewichtsteile (2 Mol) Trichloräthylphosphit werden bei 120 bis 130°C langsam 330 Gewichtsteile
(2,2 Mol) Triäthylenglykol eingetropft. Das bei der Umesterung entstehende Äthylenchlorhydrin wird
gleichzeitig aus dem Reaktionsgemisch im Vakuum herausdestilliert. Nachdem das gesamte Triäthylenglykol
zugetropft ist, wird die Reaktionstemperatur auf 145 0C gesteigert, bis kein Äthylenchlorhydrin
mehr abdestilliert. Bei einer insgesamt abgespaltenen Äthylenchlorhydrinmenge von 269 Gewichtsteilen erhält
man als Rückstand 602 Gewichtsteile Polyester als farbloses Öl (OH-Zahl 109). as
540 Gewichtsteile (2 Mol) technisches Trichloräthylphosphit werden mit insgesamt 600 Gewichtsteilen (4 Mol) Triäthylenglykol wie im Beispiel 1 be-
schrieben umgesetzt. Insgesamt werden 300 Gewichtsteile Äthylencblorhydrin abgespalten. Als Rückstand
erhält man 830 Gewichtsteile eines farblosen Polyesters (Viskosität 340 cP/20°C; OH-Zahl 266).
Eine Mischung aus 540 Gewichtsteilen (2 Mol) technischem Trichloräthylphosphit und 600 Gewichtsteilen (4 Mol) Triäthylenglykol wird unter Rühren
langsam im Vakuum erhitzt. Bei 900C setzt unter
lebhafter Abspaltung von Äthylenchlorhydrin Umesterung ein, welche durch allmähliche Temperatursteigerung
auf 1500C im Laufe von 5 Stunden zu Ende geführt wird. Es werden 395 Gewichtsteile Äthylenchlorhydrin
abgespalten. Im Rückstand bleiben 740 Gewichtsteile Polyester in Form eines farblosen klaren
Öles (OH-Zahl 197).

- Patentanspruch:Verfahren zur Herstellung von Polyestern durch Polykondensieren von Tri-(^-halogenalkyl)-phosphit mit einem Überschuß eines Polyalkylenglykols bei erhöhter Temperatur, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man das Phosphit mit Triäthylenglykol polykondensiert, wobei man je MoI des Phosphits 1,1 bis 2 Mol Triäthylenglykol verwendet.In Betracht gezogene Druckschriften:
