The re-profiling of removed, worn-out railroad tracks for the purpose of reusing them has so far only taken place in practice by machining the rail head by planing and milling. With this method, the running surface of the rails is processed to the extent that that they fit into a new rounding of the leading edge on the less worn head side transforms. The associated decrease in material, however, means an additional loss of rail material, which has the effect of reducing the length of time the rails are in place. she has In addition, it results in high tool wear, and it often leads to wavy surfaces, so-called Chatter marks, which in turn result in subsequent grinding of the machined surfaces make necessary. A further disadvantage of this conventional post-profiling is felt that the rail in the refurbished state is less wear-resistant than a rail that has not been re-profiled.
All these disadvantages of the machining of rails by cutting had to be accepted up to now although there was a process for non-cutting processing in the literature many years ago of rails was proposed, after which the worn rails by an in In the longitudinal direction of the rail, progressive upsetting in the die or by free-form upsetting followed by Rolling should reproduce their original profile. The reason why This suggestion has not found its way into practice, but the impracticability of this one See processing procedure. The re-erection to the new profile sets a material enrichment in the worn head section of the rail profile ahead. That would turn out to be a technical one feasible, but economically unacceptable way by applying Bring foreign material to the rail head section, for example by means of overlay welding but not by upsetting the splint in the die or by upsetting it in free form, as it is in In both cases, during the upsetting process, the rail material is displaced from the rail foot and rail web would have to come into the rail head section. But that is with the material and the profiling of a railroad track even under the assumption of an extremely high compression pressure unthinkable.

Da dies erfindungsgemäß durch ein maschinelles Hämmern, also durch ein Schnellschmiedeverfahren erfolgt, bei dem die erforderliche, an sich nur geringe Materialgesamtverformung bei rascher Schlagfolge in eine Vielzahl kleiner Einzelverformungen unterteilt wird, könnten die Schienen, insbesondere solche mit einem nur geringen Abnutzungsgrad, auch im kalten Zustand nachprofiliert werden.ao railroad tracks by a non-cutting post-profiling that progresses in the longitudinal direction of the rails, but differs from the known essentially in that a one-sided post-profiling of the rail head by applying pressure transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rail Hammering takes place. The deformation work to be performed is compared to upsetting according to the known suggestion mentioned, very low. In practice, it is limited to displacement of the material resulting from the chip-removing post-profiling as chip volume from the higher to the lower side of the rail head. Since this according to the invention by a machine Hammering, that is to say by means of a rapid forging process, in which the required, in itself only minor Overall material deformation with rapid impacts divided into a large number of small individual deformations the rails, especially those with only a low degree of wear, could even be cold State to be profiled.
High-speed forging machines, also known as hammering machines, were available at the time of this Proposal already known as controlled high-speed forging machines.
Dies empfiehlt sich auch deshalb, weil die Erwärmung für ein der Nachprofilierung gegebenenfalls folgendes RichtenIn the interest of a quick, machine and tool-friendly process of post-profiling However, it is recommended that the rails be adapted to the rail material before they are deformed To heat the deformation temperature, as also provided for the proposal mentioned. This recommends also because the heating for a straightening that may possibly follow the post-profiling

Dies gilt vor allem auch für die einzusetzende Kalt- oder Warmhämmermaschine mit ihrem profilierenden Schlagwerkzeug.and remuneration of the reconditioned rail can also be used. Old rails to be reconditioned with a pronounced sharp formation of burrs on the head side provided as the new running edge are, within the scope of the invention, subjected to an etching in a known manner before they are re-profiled in order to prevent otherwise possible wrinkling ; to prevent the new rounding of the driving edge during cold or hot deformation. The implementation of the invention. The method is thus expediently carried out in such a way that the rails are moved in a steadily progressing longitudinal movement through a hammering machine with replaceable beater jaws adapted to the nominal profile of the rail head, as well as devices for deburring and / or heating of the rail head, if necessary upstream of the hammering machine, and finally one in the same pass Compensation and / or straightening process. The facilities required for this are known for themselves in terms of their construction and mode of operation. They only need to be compiled and adapted to the purpose of the invention. This applies above all to the cold or hot hammering machine to be used with its profiling impact tool.
In comparison with the known work-up processes, the process according to the invention has, in addition to those already pointed out a number of other significant advantages. One example is tool wear on the robust and therefore not very sensitive, easily exchangeable striking jaws of the Hammering machine limited and accordingly only slightly. Partly due to the omission of a frequent Adjustment and replacement of worn tools and as a result of the transverse deformation Rails, any length at - high, feed speed be re-profiled without interruptions, so that a large number of rails for example put together with the same degree of wear or deformation, welded together and as practical / endless Rail track can be fed to the machining according to the invention in one pass can. Here is the force required for the feed movement the. machined rails only slightly, because according to the deformation of the invention Rail head transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rail a deformation resistance - in the longitudinal direction of the rail The surface quality of the cannot be overcome re-profiled rail, - their- structural density, corrosion resistance and wear resistance are much better than those of a machining ·; edited Rail and are even higher than the corresponding ones Values from new rails. The mentioned advantages of a technical nature have an economic effect In terms of reduced track maintenance costs, partly due to an extension of the Length of stay of the rails and other parts by reducing the previous costs for rail refurbishment the end.
