The production of 2-chlorobutadiene- (l, 3) by splitting off hydrogen chloride from 3,4-dichlorobutene- (l) is already known. In one method, 3,4-dichlorobutene- (I) is added with an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide brought to a temperature which is at least as great as the boiling point of 2-chlorobutadiene- (1,3) so that the 2-chlorobutadiene- (1,3) practically distills off from the reaction mixture, once it is formed. In such a process, the vapor formation and the flow away call this vapor from the liquid reaction mixture reduces the amount present in the reaction space Fluid emerges and in extreme cases can lead to a practically complete loss of the effective Lead reaction volume. The disadvantage of such evaporation is even more unpleasant when the Liquid tends to foam, as is the case with the above method.
The process according to the invention for the continuous production of 2-chlorobutadiene (l, 3) by reacting 3,4-dichlorobutene (l) with an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution in the presence of a water-immiscible inert organic solvent which is higher than 2-chlorobutadiene (1.3) boils, and in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor is characterized in that an excess of 3,4-dichlorobutene- (l) acting as a diluent is used, the reaction at 80 to 100 0 C and a pressure of 0 to 0 , 7 atü and the 2-chlorobutadiene (l, 3) formed is removed in liquid form from the reaction mixture.
The elimination of hydrogen chloride from 3,4-dichlorobutene- (l) with aqueous alkali is expediently carried out by heating the dichlorobutene with an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide, such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, to 80 to 100 ° C. with vigorous stirring.
A constant proportion of organic phase is maintained in the reaction vessel by adding new 3,4-dichlorobutene- (l) is supplied or returned, so that the partial pressure of the 2-chlorobutadiene- (l, 3) is sufficiently reduced and prevents excessive foaming of the reaction mixture will. The exact amount of excess dichlorobutene to be used depends on the reaction conditions and the size and shape of the reaction vessel (especially in connection with the amount of reactants it contains).
2-Chlorbutadien-(l,3)The reaction can in the presence of an inert diluent, such as nitrogen, and in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor, such as nitrogen oxide, picrin processes for the continuous production of

In one embodiment of the process, the reaction zone consists of one with a stirrer provided reaction vessel which has been heated to the desired reaction temperature and into which the reactants are introduced. A liquid, the desired 2-chlorobutadiene- (l, 3) containing phase is continuously withdrawn from the reaction vessel and passed through a vapor removal device in which the volatile organic compounds including 2-chlorobutadiene (l, 3) and unchanged dichlorobutene are separated from the aqueous alkaline phase. The volatile organic compounds can then be treated further to separate off the 2-chlorobutadiene (1,3) be e.g. B. by distillation, with the 2-chlorobutadiene (l, 3) distilled off overhead and that Dichlorobutene remains as a residue. The dichlorobutene is preferably added to the reaction vessel for splitting off hydrogen chloride or for use as water-immiscible organic Phase returned.
