Process for the preparation of nitric acid esters of mixed ethers from cellulose and polyols The invention relates to a process for the production of nitric acid esters of mixed ethers from cellulose and polyols. The procedure is characterized in that one is a mono- or polyhalohydrin of a polyol with alkali cellulose in the molar ratio of anhydroglucose unit of the cellulose chain to halohydrin from 1: 1 to 1: 3, preferably from about 1: 1.5, with more gradual Heating up to about 50 to 700 ° C. for about 4 to 5 hours in a manner known per se converts the cellulose mixed ether formed with water, methyl, ethyl or isopropyl alcohol washes and dries and then in a known manner in a nitric acid ester convicted.
Als Polyolhalogenhydrin kann man insbesondere die Chlorhydrine von Glykol, Glycerin, Sorbit, Mannit, Erythrit oder Polyvinylalkohol verwenden. As a polyol halohydrin, the chlorohydrins of Use glycol, glycerine, sorbitol, mannitol, erythritol or polyvinyl alcohol.
The etherification is preferably carried out with an alkali cellulose, obtained by soaking wood pulp in sheet form in a caustic soda solution of about 14.15 ovo for 2 to 4 hours at a temperature of 15 to 200 C below Swelling of the leaves and subsequent pressing of the alkali cellulose formed up to about three times the weight of the starting cellulose has been produced.
B. The polyol halohydrin is preferably in solution in a suitable Solvents such as B.
Acetone, petroleum ether or dioxane, with a ratio of cellulose converted to solvent of about 1:10.
The mixed ethers are nitrated in a manner known per se Way with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid.
In place of the chlorohydrins one can also use bromohydrins or use other halohydrins. Nitriding baths can be used in place of the »nitrating acid« from acetic acid-nitric acid, phosphoric acid-nitric acid and analogues to achieve use an increased nitrogen content.
The mixed nitric acid esters which can be prepared according to the invention Ethers made from cellulose and polyols are soluble or in the usual solvents not, but always thermoplastic.
After adding small amounts of plasticizers, the Thermoplasticity at temperatures between 80 and 1000 C.
The nitric acid esters obtained from cellulose etherified with polychlorohydrins can still contain chlorine ions and therefore be less flammable than nitrocellulose.
B. The mixed nitric acid esters which can be prepared according to the invention Ethers made from cellulose and polyols can be used to produce aqueous thermoplastic Suspensions for the impregnation of e.g. B.
Paper or leather are used; in explosives technology they are used in the same way as nitrocellulose, but have the advantage of that no Auschwitzers' opinions or
Exsudationen in der Pulvermasse auftreten.Exudations occur in the powder mass.
The invention is illustrated by the following examples.
Example 1 An alkali cellulose obtained in the manner described above is in a double-walled mixer or in a tight mixing vessel in the presence a solution of Glycerirunonochlorhydrin mixed in acetone. There were the following Ratios chosen: anhydroglucose units of the cellulose chain = 1 glycerol chlorohydrin molecule 1.5 cellulose 1 acetone = 10 The temperature is slowly increased from 25 to 500 C. The etherification lasts 5 hours.
The glyceryl cellulose obtained is first mixed with 800% ethyl alcohol, then washed with isopropyl alcohol and then dried.
Cellulose contains three marketable hydroxyl groups per anhydroglucose unit; under the above conditions only 0.8 have the. hydroxyl groups present in the member reacts, which corresponds to a degree of substitution of 0.8.
The glyceryl cellulose is then mixed with a nitrating acid mixture (sulfuric acid $ Nitric acid), then washed and stabilized.
Esterification with nitric acid is carried out using the ratio: Modified cellulose ~~ 1 nitriding bath = 50 The duration of the esterification is im general 30 minutes to 2 hours. The temperature of the nitriding is at 300 C, but you can impregnate the modified cellulose with the-nitriding-bath; 00 C. and then let the temperature rise.
The stabilization can also be achieved by treatment with water at 1000 C. in the autoclave or by extraction with isopropyl alcohol.
The nitrogen content and the solubility of the nitric acid ester obtained the glyceryl cellulose in common solvents depends on the one used Mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid.
One can see the ratio between the anhydroglucose and the chlorohydrin molecules vary from 1: 1 to 1: 3.
Example 2 Experiment no. 1 is carried out with the replacement of 10% monochlorohydrin repeated by the dichlorohydrin, the working conditions remaining the same.
The glyceryl cellulose ester obtained is thermoplastic, however insoluble in common solvents.
The chlorohydrins of glycol, sorbitol, erythritol and polyvinyl alcohol can be used under the same conditions as the glycerol chlorohydrin.
The glycol chlorohydrin gives results similar to those of the gcerol chlorohydrin are very similar: obtained under the same working conditions as in example 1 one has a degree of substitution of 1.
The nitration gives a nitric acid ester of hydroxyethyl cellulose, which is less thermoplastic than the nitrate of glyceryl cellulose.
