Process for the production of largely sulfate-free iron oxide hydrate as a starting product for ferrite production The invention relates to a Process for the production of serving as a starting product for the ferrite production Iron oxide hydrate, which is obtained from a sulphate-containing iron salt solution by means of a supply of air an alkaline solution is precipitated.
Iron oxide hydrates are iron oxides with a certain crystal water content. Depending on the amount of water of crystallization bound by the iron oxide, a distinction is made between various iron oxide hydrates. The iron oxide monohydrate Fe20, * 1 H, 0 is also known under the name iron oxide yellow. Furthermore, there is iron oxide hydrate as red iron oxide (Fe., 0, * x H.0) and black iron oxide (Fe, 304 - X '40) - it is already known that such iron oxide hydrates, among other purposes, also for the production of magnetizable oxide materials , so-called ferrites, to be used for coil cores in electrical engineering. These iron oxide hydrates are z. B. obtained by adding a base to metal solutions so that the oxide hydrate is precipitated. The content of contaminating sulfate ions is quite considerable. The iron oxide hydrate is then mixed with other divalent metal oxides and sintered. For this use - but also for other purposes - an iron oxide as pure as possible is required. In particular, the iron oxide should be largely sulfate-free.
SO.-Dämpfe.The iron oxides, which are commercially available and produced by processes known since then, which are also used for the production of ferrites, have a SO2 content of up to 2%. It has been shown that this content worsens the properties of the substances and bodies produced from and with the iron oxides. The sulphate content is particularly noticeable when the materials processed with the iron oxide, such as in the manufacture of ferrite, are subjected to a heat treatment. This creates harmful SO or SO vapors.
The invention is based on the object of finding extremely sulfatarine and particularly pure iron oxide hydrates for use in ferrite production.
The invention consists in the combination of the following features: a) The alkaline solution which serves to precipitate the sulphate-containing iron salt solution is added in such an amount that the sulphate ion-containing mother liquor has a pH of not more than 7 ; b) immediately after removal from the mother liquor, the precipitate is washed out with water and then with an alkaline solution; c) the precipitate is washed with water after the alkaline washout. The addition of scrap iron to the mother liquor is particularly advantageous. To intensify and accelerate the settling of the iron oxide hydrate from its mother liquor, i. H. To achieve good and rapid separation of the precipitation process, the mother liquor is mixed with a little sulfuric acid in particular at the end of the precipitation process. The good separation improves the further treatment of the precipitation product, in particular the cleaning or washing out. Part of the sulfuric acid addition then becomes very firmly bonded with the iron oxide hydrate. It cannot be washed out with simple means, but the acidified mother liquor is removed and the precipitate is washed out with a dilute alkaline solution.
Iron sulfate solutions are used as the starting product for the process according to the invention, Iron nitrate or iron chloride and possibly other iron salt solutions in question. Eventual Remnants of the alkaline solution and soluble sulfates are finally washed off removed from the precipitate with water.
Particularly suitable alkaline solutions are ammonium carbonate and / or sodium carbonate solutions. Also caustic soda, potassium hydroxide and potassium carbonate solutions are suitable. It is advisable to use a 0.5 normal sodium carbonate solution in this process to use or such a solution, the effect of which is the 0.5 normal sodium carbonate solution is equivalent to.
The iron oxide hydrates produced by the process according to the invention are extremely pure sulfate. The harmful sulphate content is insignificant except for one Remainder reduced by less than 0.5%. One made by such a process Iron oxide hydrate is therefore an excellent starting product for the production of magnetizable oxide materials suitable for coil cores in electrical engineering, especially it is characterized by a very high level of responsiveness. For ferrite formation the iron oxide hydrate z. B. with one or more divalent metal oxides mixed and then sintered.
The properties of ferrites produced in this way are compared to others Ferrites made from a more sulphate-rich iron oxide hydrate are considerable cheaper.
Der SO.-Gehalt des gewonnenen Eisenoxydhydrats liegt unter 0,50/9.Joyful example of the inventive Gewinnun- reaction-C sulfate pure Eisenoxydhydrats from a sulphate-containing iron salt solution a ferrous sulfate solution (140 g FeS04, 7 ml of distilled H.0 760 in H20) and sodium carbonate solution (I0.5 g Na.co, in 510 ml of distilled H20 ) are mixed at 20 to 30 ° C. The solution is diluted to 3.01 and 90 g of scrap iron are added. After the temperature has been increased to 50 to 60 ° C. , a strong stream of air is introduced, with yellow iron oxide hydrate being formed. The pH of the solution is approximately between 4 and 5. After the mother liquor has been removed, the precipitate is washed out with 500 ml of distilled water. This is followed by further washing with about 0.5 normal soda solution. The filtrate is then washed again with distilled water until it is free from alkali and sulfate. The SO. Content of the iron oxide hydrate obtained is below 0.50 / 9.
