Description
Controller for the arc length of an electric melting furnace with a consumable electrode The invention relates to a device for regulating the length of the arc between a lowerable consumable electrode and the molten metal formed therefrom.
In order to produce cast ingots of good quality by means of the melting process, the length of the arc in which the melting process takes place must be regulated. There is an optimal arc length, depending on the type of melted material, depends on the electrode dimensions, the melting performance and other factors. Were If the consumable electrode is firmly attached, the arc length would increase with the melting their lower end are constantly increasing. Therefore, the electrode must be lowered gradually will. But if it is lowered too quickly, the arc shortens, and so does it a complete short circuit can even occur if the electrode is in the melt immersed.
There are various control methods for regulating the arc length in melting furnaces common. Most often, a voltage regulator is used, its main advantage is the easy recovery of the feedback variable. On the other hand, there are many Disadvantage. The main disadvantage is that voltage fluctuations without corresponding Fluctuations in arc length occur, so that the electrode driving device is operated unnecessarily. In addition, the voltage gradient in the arc changes with the melted material, the electrode dimensions, the melting capacity, etc., so that a certain change in tension is quite different in different cases Changes in length of the arch must be assigned.
With a different control method, the electrode becomes a little faster lower than the difference between electrode consumption and melt formation is equivalent to. When the electrode is lowered so far that it is one with the melt Short circuit, it is raised by a certain distance and then begins their way down again. The electrode is constantly moving, first downwards and then upwards, and the length of the arc changes continuously. That can lead to arc instability which causes poor quality ingots.
Another control method is based on the counting of the drip short circuits, assuming that the primary objective is to prevent excessive arc length is. About two drip shorts per minute are considered normal. she arise when molten metal droplets that hang on the electrode create the discharge space bridge or if splashes from the melt create a short-circuit bridge with the from drops falling off the electrode. These drip shorts are powerful enough to be observed on a gauge or an electromechanical one Actuate relay. A closer examination shows, however, that others are more numerous Voltage dips occur that are not taken into account with this type of regulation. When counting the short circuits, the extent of the respective short circuit, the combination of short circuits or other voltage dips, the extent of the Voltage change and the duration of the same not taken into account.
The aim of the invention is to create an arc length controller that the length of the arc more precisely than before and independent of the fluctuating Melting conditions regulates the number, extent and length of the deviations taken into account by the normal operating voltage, the electrode only lowers or raises when the arc length begins to change, and usually the electrode only drives in the downward direction.
The arc length regulator according to the invention, which is based on the drive of a Consumption electrode of the type mentioned using the droplet short circuits in the Arc acts, is characterized by a reference winding, a control winding, a differential amplifier, which the lowering device always then operated, when the magnetic flux generated by the control winding exceeds the magnetic flux of the reference winding exceeds, further a reference capacitor and a variable capacitor, respectively can be discharged via the associated winding, a rectifier for discharging of the regulating capacitor via the arc. in one direction, one connected to the network Charging device for periodically charging both capacitors to the arc voltage and a series resistor for the control coil, so that most of the discharge current from the regulating capacitor over the arc as long as the arc length and so that the arc resistance does not exceed a certain level.
The invention is explained below with reference to the drawing, which is a circuit diagram represents the control system according to the invention explained.
A consumable electrode 1 is located in an arc furnace 2 above a melt 3 at the bottom of the furnace, where it forms a mold 4 . The consumable electrode and the melt are connected via direct current cores 6 and 7 to a rectifier 8, which is fed with alternating current via two cores 9. The power supplied is sufficient to maintain an electric arc between the lower end of the electrode and the mirror of the melt.
The electrode is suspended in the furnace by means of a device that allows it to be lowered and raised. As such, e.g. B. serve a rope 10 which is wound on a drum 11. The drum 11 is driven by a reversible motor 12 via a back gear, not shown. In the known Ward-Leonard circuit, the motor 12 is fed by a direct current machine 13, the field winding 14 of which is connected to an exciter 15 which has several field windings and an armature 16. Depending on the resulting field direction in the exciter 15, the drive motor 12 will run in one direction or the other.
To lower the consumable electrode 1, the excitation machine 15 is provided with a lowering coil 18, which is electrically connected to a differential amplifier 19 designed in a known manner as a bistable magnetic amplifier. This contains a reference winding 20 and a regulating winding 21. As long as the magnetic flux generated by the regulating winding is equal to or less than the magnetic flux of the reference winding, the bistable amplifier blocks the connection between the lowering coil 18 and the alternating current network via the wires 22 If the magnetic flux of the regulating coil corresponds to that of the reference coil, then the amplifier 19 connects the wires 22 to the lowering coil 18, so that the latter excites the field winding 14 in the direction which leads to the lowering of the consumable electrode by the drive motor 12.
According to the invention, the arrangement is such that the magnetic flux produced by the regulating coil 21 is directly linked to the length of the arc in such a way that if the length is correct or too short, the magnetic flux of the regulating coil is equal to or less than the flux of the reference coil. If, on the other hand, the arc length increases beyond the optimum value, the control coil generates a stronger magnetic flux than the reference coil, and the lowering device comes into operation in the manner described. The current that causes the magnetic fluxes of the reference coil and the regulating coil is generated by the discharge of two capacitors, namely a regulating capacitor 24, which is connected to the regulating winding 21 via wires 25 and 26, and a reference capacitor 27, which is connected to the regulating winding 21 via wires 28 and 29 is connected to the reference winding 20 . Another coil can be in series with these coils (see later). Each discharge circuit is connected to the operating voltage wire 6 via a wire 31 which is connected to the wires 26 and 29. The other assignment of each capacitor is connected to the other operating voltage wire 7. This is done by means of a wire 32, which connects wire 25 to wire 7 via the normally open contact of a relay 33, or by means of a wire 34, which leads from wire 28 to wire 32. In the wires 32 and 34 diodes 36 are connected, which allow the flow of current mur in the direction from the DC voltage wire 7 to 'the capacitors. The control loop is also connected to wire 7 via a further wire 37, in the train of which there is a variable resistor 38 and a diode 39. The latter only allows current to flow in the direction of the operating wire 7. Between the wire 37 and the control winding 21 there is a variable high series resistor 40 in the train of the wire 25 Sromes to flow off via core 37 into the operating core 7, while only a very small proportion of the current flows through the control coil. On the other hand, the reference capacitor can only discharge via the reference winding 20, specifically at a rate which is determined by a variable series resistor 41 in the wire 28.
In order to charge the two capacitors, relay 33 is briefly closed. So that both capacitors receive the same charge and the discharge circuit is balanced, the normally open contact 43 of a timer 44 can connect the wires 25 and 28 of the two capacitor circuits at the point between the capacitors and the resistors 40 and 41, respectively. If contact 43 is closed briefly after relay 33 has opened, the charges on the two capacitors equalize.
The contacts 33 and 43 are closed in a manner to be described and open. If relay 33 is picked up, the two capacitors are immediately charged to the arc voltage via wires 6 and 7. Direct after the relay 33 has dropped out and the contact 43 has opened, the discharges Reference capacitor 27 via the reference winding 20 and thereby generates a certain Magnetic flux. At the same time, the regulating capacitor 24 discharges. Its discharge current branches on the one hand via the winding 21 and on the other hand via the arc, and because of the high series resistance 40, most of the current flows through the Core 37 and the arc, the rate of discharge being essentially is given by the setting of the resistor 38. The capacitor can therefore discharged through the arc, because small short circuits are constantly caused by von causing metal droplets falling on the electrode; although generally none measurable reduction of the arc voltage below the value of the capacitor voltage occurs. These short circuits vary in number, extent and duration. Even though they usually do not reduce the arc voltage measurably, but cause short ones Voltage drops that are sufficient to discharge the control capacitor over to enable the arc.
As long as the arc is the desired length, so much will discharge Current from the regulating capacitor through it, and so little current flows through the regulating winding, that the magnetic flux of the latter does not exceed that of the reference winding and thus the drive of the consumable electrode remains blocked. But if the arc length increases, the number, extent and duration of the arc short circuits decrease, so that the regulating capacitor no longer discharges as quickly through the arc as previously. As a result, more current then flows through the control winding. This one Winding has far more turns than the reference winding (e.g. in a ratio of 40: 1), there is only a slight increase in the amperage in the control winding required to generate more magnetic flux than in the reference winding. Once this Condition occurs, the lowering device is put into operation and the electrode shifted so far that it shortens the arc length to the normal value. The capacitors are charged and discharged every few seconds, so the arc length is under constant Observation stands.
The charging relay 33 is actuated by a timer 50 , which its contact 51 every few seconds, z. B. every 10 seconds, closes. Via the contact 51 , a wire 52 carrying alternating voltage is connected to the relay 33, which is directly connected to the return line 53 of the alternating current network. One terminal of the timer is connected to wire 53, while the other terminal is connected to wire 52 via a normally closed contact 54 of a further timer 55 and a normally closed contact 56 of a timer 57. When contact 51 closes, timer 44 is also energized, which closes its contact 43 and keeps it closed for a fraction of a second after relay 33 has opened. The timer 50 also closes a further contact 58 which turns on the timer 55 so that contact 54 opens and stops the timer 50 for a few seconds. Contact 58 opens in the supply circuit for timer 55, which is why contact 54 closes again. As a result of this interplay, the timer 50 is operated periodically as long as the arc length remains constant. If, however, the arc begins to grow, the step-down excitation winding 18 is excited in the manner described above and closes a relay 59 which switches on the timer 57. This timer opens a contact 56 to stop timer 50 and closes contact 60, which in turn closes the circuit to relay 33 and switches on timer 44 so that contact 43 is closed and the two capacitors are charged and equalized in charge. As soon as this occurs, the magnetic fluxes of the windings 20 and 21 become the same again and the lowering stops.
If the arc becomes so short that a permanent short circuit occurs in the furnace, the electrode is raised. This is done with the aid of a lifting winding 65 in the exciter 15, which is connected to a bistable magnetic amplifier 66, which is excited by the alternating current cores 22. This amplifier contains a winding 67 which is connected in parallel to the arc with both operating voltage cores of the same. As long as the arc length remains normal, the winding 67 receives sufficient current to keep the supply of the winding 65 blocked. However, if the current in the winding 67 falls below a certain value because the arc length is too short, the excitation winding 65 is fed with alternating current, and the direct current machine 13 and the drive motor 12 are reversed in order to raise the electrode until the short circuit is eliminated. As a result, the current intensity in the winding 67 increases again, and the feeding of the lifting winding is blocked.
With certain types of drive of the electrode it can happen that the Eelectrode sinks further under its own weight after the drive in the downward direction has stopped. Such an undesired downward movement can be switched off in that the exciter 15 is equipped with a field winding 70 which continuously supplies a low voltage in the upward direction to the DC machine 13 , so that after the lowering winding 18 has been switched off, the motor 12 exerts a small lifting force, which the Holds electrode stationary.
Under certain melting conditions, e.g. B. if the electrode does not If it burns evenly enough, the arc may tend to last for longer Time to get too short. In order to master this phenomenon, another one can be used bistable magnetic amplifier 75 may be provided, which the electrode very slowly raises if so desired. This lifting operation is not so strict Conditions than the lift in the event of a short circuit. The amplifier 75 includes two further windings 76 and 77, each in series with one of the windings in the amplifier 19 are connected, but their polarities are reversed for these windings. The amplifier 75 is fed with alternating current via the wires 78.
The amplifier 75 is set so that it has no effect under normal operating conditions. However, if the arc should be too short, the magnetic flux generated by the winding 76 decreases so much in relation to the magnetic flux of the winding 77 that the wires 78 are connected to a lifting winding 79 in the exciter 15, so that the drive motor 12 the electrode 1 slowly lifts. The energizing current for the winding 79 also closes a relay 80 which turns on the timer 57. This leads to the same result as the closure of the relay 59, apart from the fact that in the present case the increase is terminated by the recharging of the capacitors 24 and 27.
