Description
Use of a plastic material for weatherproof electrical Outdoor insulators For the production of outdoor insulations has so far been almost exclusively Porcelain used because porcelain is absolutely insensitive to moisture. However, porcelain has various disadvantages. Porcelain insulators can be very difficult to manufacture accurately. The brittleness of the porcelain in the low value for the impact strength is expressed, affects transport and assembly unfavorable. Due to its brittleness, porcelain is also sensitive to temperature. Extreme temperature fluctuations in the atmosphere can destroy porcelain insulators will. Attempts have also been made in the manufacture of outdoor insulators to replace the porcelain with plastic. But it has been shown that so far plastics proposed for this purpose, which have favorable electrical properties are not weatherproof. Weather influences, such as absorption of moisture and exposure to ultraviolet rays, decrease creepage and arc resistance and increase the corona effect.
It has now been found, surprisingly, that plastic compounds which by Curing of cycloaliphatic polyepoxides with cycloaliphatic or aliphatic Polycarboxylic anhydrides are obtained which do not have the disadvantages mentioned above: The invention thus relates to the use of a plastic material which by curing a cycloaliphatic 1,2-epoxy compound which has a 1,2-epoxy equivalent greater than 1, with a cycloaliphatic or aliphatic polycarboxylic anhydride is obtained as a curing agent for weather-resistant, outdoor electrical insulators.
The cycloaliphatic 1,2-epoxy compounds used as starting materials and having an epoxy equivalence greater than 1 are to be understood as meaning those compounds which, based on the average number of molecular weights, have n groups of the formula contain, where n is an integer or fractional number greater than 1. These can be terminal or internal 1,2-epoxy groups.
Examples of cycloaliphatic polyepoxides which contain only terminal 1,2-epoxy groups are e.g. B. the compounds of the formulas called. Particularly good results are obtained if such cycloaliphatic polyepoxide compounds are used which contain at least one inner 1,2-epoxide group attached to a cycloaliphatic ring. Examples are the compounds of the formulas below The cycloaliphatic epoxides used are known per se, and their production process is not the subject of the present invention.
The cycloaliphatic polyepoxide compounds can be used as active diluents cycloaliphatic monoepoxides such as 3,4-epoxytetrahydrodicyclopentadienol - 8 or 3,4 - epoxycyclohexane -1,1 - dimethanolacrolein acetal, may be added.
The hardening agent used is preferably cycloaliphatic, optionally halogenated polycarboxylic anhydrides, such as hexahydrophthalic anhydride, endomethylene - tetrahydrophthalic anhydride or hexachlorendomethylene - tetrahydrophthalic anhydride.
But you can also use aliphatic polycarboxylic anhydrides, such as B. succinic anhydride, maleic anhydride, dodecenyl succinic anhydride.
The curable mixtures of cycloaliphatic polycarboxylic acid anhydride can also be used in any phase with fillers, plasticizers, Pigments, dyes, flame retardants, mold release agents, etc. are added. As an extender and filler, for example rutile, mica, quartz powder, rock flour, Aluminum oxide trihydrate, calcium carbonate, ground dolomite, gypsum or barium sulfate be used.
To increase the mechanical properties, glass, Polyester, nylon, polyacrylonitrile, silk, cotton fibers or fabrics are used will.
An example of an outdoor insulator according to the invention will be explained using a drawing. The drawing shows a supporter as it is, for. B. be used in overhead line construction, which is made of the material proposed according to the invention. It consists in a known manner of the foot 1, the support head 2 and the ribs 3 arranged between them, which have the task of extending the creepage distance.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that outdoor insulators made from the proposed plastic material have good mechanical and electrical properties over a wide temperature range and also high resistance to the action of light and glow discharges and an astonishingly high arc resistance. These are all properties that are crucial for outdoor insulators. EXAMPLE 1 A curable casting resin mixture was prepared by dissolving 100 parts by weight of the 3,4-epoxyhexahydrobenzal-3 ', 4'-epoxy-1', l'-bis (oxymethyl) cyclohexane described in Example 1 of French patent specification 1233 231 in 45 parts by weight of hexahydrophthalic anhydride at about 40 ° C. Part of the cast resin mixture thus produced was cast into an insulator, as shown in the drawing, and cured at 140 ° C. for 24 hours. This insulator was exposed to the weather for a long period of time without any change in the surface and thus in the tracking resistance, the arc resistance or the corona effect being observed. Plates 12-12 0.4 cm were cast from the same casting resin mixture and cured as above. Such a plate was tested for arc resistance in accordance with DIN 53 484 (VDE 0303 Part 5) and the high level L 4 was achieved. Another plate was subjected to the Xeno test for 2000 hours to determine its light resistance. No change in the surface could be detected. Example 2 The procedure was as described in Example 1, but instead of hexahydrophthalic anhydride as the hardening agent, 43 parts by weight of tetrahydrophthalic anhydride (sample A) or 47 parts by weight of endomethylenetetrahydrophthalic anhydride (sample B) were dissolved in the diepoxy compound at about 80 or 100 ° C. For sample C, a casting resin mixture was used which, by dissolving 70 parts by weight of hexahydrophthalic anhydride at about 40 ° C. in 100 parts by weight of a polyglycidyl ether resin which is liquid at room temperature and has an epoxy content of 5.3 epoxy equivalents per kilogram (produced by reacting epichlorohydrin with bis- [p- hydroxyphenyl] dimethyl methane in the presence of alkali) is obtained.
Part of each of the cast resin mixtures produced in this way was as in the example 1 encapsulated to form insulators and cured for 24 hours at 140 ° C. With Insulators obtained from samples A and B showed equally good weather resistance like the insulator produced according to Example 1. In contrast, the one with the sample showed C manufactured insulator after weathering deterioration in electrical Properties and strong discoloration after the Xeno test for 2000 hours the surface.
Plates 12 were made from a portion of the same cast resin mixtures - 12 - 0.6 cm and castings 4 - 14 1 cm cast and hardened as above.
