Abstract

960,674. Regulating. DAIMLER BENZ A.G. Sept. 10, 1962 [Sept. 14, 1961], No. 34543/62. Heading F1B. In a diesel engine with an engine exhaust brake in the exhaust passage 5, noises occurring in the air filter 9 during engine braking are reduced by means including an air-throttle flap 10 provided in the intake passage 8 and actuated by means in the same opening and closing direction as the braking flap 6. Braking flap 6 is actuated by linkage 7 and operates throttle flap 10 through linkage 11, 12, 13, 13a, 14 and 15. Arm 13a moves more than is necessary to close flap 10 and a spring element 16 takes up the excess movement in link 14. In modifications flap 10 may have one or more small holes to provide an air passage when closed or may close incompletely against an adjustable stop 20. A spring 17 tends to maintain air flap 10 in the open position. The air throttle may be arranged in pipe 2 upstream of an oil-bath air filter 9.

Description

Device for noise attenuation in the intake system with an engine brake and an extremely long connecting pipe between the air intake point and the intake line provided diesel internal combustion engine for driving motor vehicles in motor vehicles with a diesel engine working with an engine brake and an extremely long one Connection pipe between the fresh air intake point on the vehicle and the intake line on the engine, e.g. B. in buses with a rear engine, occur on the oil bath air filter in the engine compartment and at the fresh air intake point at the front during braking noises with resonance peaks across the entire speed range, which is a nuisance inside the vehicle and are often complained about by the vehicle occupants.

By using resonators in the air intake line, you can the individual resonance peaks are suppressed. An effective reduction of the total noise level is not easily possible in this way.

This is achieved by the invention in that in per se known Way one at the same time and in the same direction as one arranged in the exhaust line Engine brake flap operated, at the inlet to the intake line or behind one of the Intake line is provided in front of the air filter arranged throttle valve, the one with the linkage for actuating the engine brake flap via a flexible link is related to the fact that the throttle valve is unaffected by the position of the foot pedal is and is under the action of a spring tending to the throttle valve to pivot into an open position possibly determined by a stop.

In the drawing, the invention is shown schematically in one embodiment shown. It shows F i g. 1 shows the scheme of a motor vehicle engine with an exhaust brake and noise damping flap in the intake manifold, in side view, F i g. 2 the Throttle valve of the intake manifold, in plan.

Die F i g. 2 ist gegenüber der F i g. 1 in einem größeren Maßstab gezeichnet.The F i g. 2 is opposite to FIG. 1 on a larger scale drawn.

In Fig. 1 is the engine with 1, the connecting pipe between the Fresh air intake point on the vehicle and the air intake pipe with 2, the air intake pipe 3 on the engine and 4 on the exhaust pipe. In the connection piece 5 for the An exhaust brake flap 6 is arranged to the exhaust pipe leading to the muffler, from the driver's seat, e.g. B. via a linkage 7 is actuated.

In the connecting piece 8 leading to the air intake pipe 3, a two throttle valve 10 is arranged behind an oil bath air filter 9, which is operated simultaneously and in the same direction as the brake valve 6. For this purpose, the lever is z. B. designed as an angle lever 11. The actuating linkage 7 engages on one leg of this lever and on the other leg a rod 12, which in turn is articulated on an angle lever 13, 13 a. Its lever arm 13 a is connected to the adjusting lever 15 of the air throttle valve 10 via a linkage 14. In order to bypass the necessary precise setting of both flaps 6, 10 during assembly and thereby facilitate assembly, the adjustment rod 11, 13, 13 a, 14, 15 is designed so that the end of the angle lever 13 a makes a longer way, than is necessary for closing the air throttle valve 10. To compensate for the over travel, a spring travel 16 is provided in the rod 14. In addition, a spring 17 acts on the adjusting lever 15 of the air throttle valve 10, which spring strives to pull the valve into its open position, which is limited by a stop 18.

The handling and operation of the device described results from FIG. 1 without further ado. With the closing of the exhaust flap 6 for braking purposes At the same time, the air throttle valve 10 also closes with the effect of the already noise reduction mentioned at the beginning. About unfavorable pressure conditions on the suction side to avoid the engine, the air throttle valve 10 is not allowed to close completely, or they are provided with a small free cross-section, e.g. B. according to FIG. 2 with small bores 19. In the first case, the air throttle valve is in the closed position limited by a second, optionally adjustable stop 20, which in the second Case is dispensable.
