Wegen des hohen Prägedruckes müssen alle durch diesen Druck beanspruchten Kalanderteile entsprechend schwer und stabil ausgeführt sein. Tatsächlich aber genügt für den Betrieb des erfindungsgemäßen Prägekalanders schon ein Prägedruck, der nur 20 ovo und weniger desjenigen Druckes beträgt, den man bei den bekannten Prägekalandern zur sauberen und unverzerrten Wiedergabe eines bestimmten Prägemusters auf der durchlaufenden Kunststoffbahn aufbringen mußte. Ferner sind die aus elastischem Kunststoff bestehenden nahtlosen Walzenmäntel des erfindungsgemäßen Prägekalanders weitgehend unempfindlich gegen Stöße und Schläge, welche diese Walzenmäntel nun einmal im praktischen Betrieb des Kalanders auszuhalten haben. Die Prägemusterung des bisher üblichen Hartmetallmantels der Prägewalze wird oft schon durch einen einzigen Stoß oder Schlag so beschädigt, daß man den Walzenmantel an der beschädigten Stelle in mühseliger und kostspieliger Handarbeit ausbessern muß. Im Gegensatz zu Stahl, den man bisher vornehmlich für die Herstellung des Prägewalzenmantels benutzt hat, fällt bei einem Kunststoffmantel auch jede Gefahr des Verrostens fort. Weiterhin hat sich gezeigt, daß die Kunststoffmäntel des Walzenpaares bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Prägekalander mindestens die gleiche Lebensdauer haben wie die aus anderen Werkstoffen ausgeführten nahtlosen Walzenmäntel bei den bekannten Prägekalandern. Das ist auch dann der Fall, wenn man die zu prägende Kunststoff- bahn mit höherer Geschwindigkeit durchlaufen läßt, als es bei einem vergleichbaren Prägekalander bekannter Ausführung möglich wäre.
