Description
It is known that the polymerization of acrylonitrile, alone or together with smaller amounts other monomers succeed in at least 65% zinc chloride solutions if, for. B. organic peroxides can be used as catalysts and a reaction temperature of 80 to 100 ° C is selected will. In this way, polymer solutions are obtained which have a very high viscosity. The height However, viscosity makes further processing into fibers and films considerably more difficult. In addition, as a result the high temperature partially saponification of the polymer occur. It is also known that Acrylonitrile, alone or together with other polymerizable vinyl compounds, is also included Temperatures between 20 and 50 ° C, in aqueous zinc chloride-calcium chloride mixtures and one large number of other salt solutions described in U.S. Patent 2,648,647 can be. Peroxy compounds, inter alia, are specified as catalysts. the The viscosity of the resulting polymer solutions is lower when these solvents are selected.
It has now been found that in a process for the preparation of immediately spinnable solutions of acrylonitrile polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile in which the acrylonitrile component predominates, by polymerization of the monomers in concentrated aqueous zinc chloride or Zinc chloride-calcium chloride solution, in the presence of a peroxide catalyst, optionally under Addition of hydrochloric acid, more uniform and higher conversions can be achieved at room temperature, when the polymerization is carried out in the presence of hydroxylamine hydrochloride.
Another advantage of this method is that the polymerization is up to almost 100% Conversion of the monomer proceeds. The resulting solutions are gel-free and can be spun immediately will.
Furthermore, when using the method according to the invention, it was found that the reproducibility the results of the individual test approaches is significantly improved. The circumstance of one as possible extensive reproducibility, particularly with regard to sales, is in the production of spinning solutions of decisive importance, since the percentage of solid polymer in a spinning solution is known to have a significant influence on the quality of the resulting threads. It is thus for Achieving a constant quality of the threads is necessary, spinning solutions with the same concentration as possible use for the spinning process.

A mixture of 90 g of ZnCl 2 solution (60%), 10 g of acrylonitrile and 4.5 ml of HCl (38%) was mixed with 0.125 g of a mixture of 60 parts of tert-butyl hydroperoxide and 20 parts of di- (tert-butyl peroxide ) and 20 parts of dimethyl phthalate and 0.070 g of hydroxylamine hydrochloride, both dissolved in 5 ml of ZnCl 2 solution, added at 17 ° C. and this solution is left to stand. After 24 hours, 96% of the acrylonitrile set had polymerized. The solution was spun directly from the polymerization vessel into fibers that had good textile properties.
