Vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren nebst einer Einrichtung, um blätteriges Material, wie Glimmer, in dünne Blätter zu spalten. Das vorliegende Verfahren besteht darin, dafs man durch einen Block des Materials in der Richtung der Spaltungsfläche ein sich drehendes Messer, das an der Unterseite abgeschrägt ist, hindurchtreibt. Damit nun das Messer leicht in den Block eindringen kann, mufs dieser an der der Messerspitze zugekehrten Seite aufgeblättert sein, was man durch Abschleifen des Blockes an dieser Seite erreichen kann. Dieses Aufblättern kann in mannigfacher Weise stattfinden, am zweckmäfsigsten geschieht es aber nach Angabe der Erfinder durch Abschleifen einer Seite oder Kante des Blockes. Das Schleifmehl dringt dabei zwischen die Ränder der einzelnen Blättchen, wodurch sie offen gehalten werden und dem Messer das Eindringen erleichtert wird. Die Stärke der abgespalteten Blätter ist gleich der Höhe' der Abschrägung an der Unterseite der Messerspitze und kann sonach durch Auswechselung des Messers geregelt werden. Der Block' wird durch Federn niedergedrückt, so dafs seine Unterseite stets in gleicher Höhe steht. Die vom Messer abgespalteten Blätter des Materials werden über eine Oeffnung in einem Tisch geführt und von da mittelst einer Bürste auf ein Transporttuch gestreift, so dafs die Arbeit ununterbrochen vor sich geht.

Um diesem Anhaften vorzubeugen und die Ablösung der Blätter zu bewirken, sind Federn 26* an der Unterseite des Messers vor den Ansätzen 26 befestigt (Fig. 5). Die- Enden der Federn sind dünn und liegen dicht an der Unterseite des Messers, so dafs sie frei über die abgetrennten Blätter weggehen, aber der Mitteltheil ist gekrümmt, so dafs die Blätter vom Messer abgehoben werden.
