Claims (63)

1. Verfahren zur Verwendung einer Vorausbezahlt-Karte mit zugeordneten Kartenidentifikationsdaten, wobei
eine persönliche Identifikationsnummer zur Verwendung mit der Karte ausgewählt wird, um einen autorisierten Kartenbenutzer beim Einleiten einer Kartentransaktion zu verifizieren; und
die Karte durch Übertragung der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer, der Kartenidentifikationsdaten und Geldwert angebender Daten über ein Kommunikationsnetz zu einem Kartenverarbeitungszentrum aktiviert wird, wobei die persönliche Identifikationsnummer, die Kartenidentifikationsdaten und die Geldwertdaten in einem Kartenkonto gespeichert werden, auf das das Kartenverarbeitungszentrum Zugriff hat,
und wobei die Karte zur Benutzung verfügbar ist, nachdem die Aktivierung durchgeführt wurde.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei ferner ein Geldwert zu dem Kartenkonto hinzuaddiert wird, indem ein Geldwertbetrag gegeben wird und die Geldwertdaten um diesen Geldwertbetrag inkrementiert werden.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei ferner ein Geldwert von dem Kartenkonto entfernt wird, indem die Geldwertdaten um einen Geldwertbetrag dekrementiert werden und dieser Geldwertbetrag dem autorisierten Kartenbenutzer gegeben wird.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Kartentransaktion im Hinzuaddieren eines Geldwerts zu dem Kartenkonto, im Kaufen einer Ware oder einer Dienstleistung, oder im Abheben von Bargeld besteht.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, wobei das Kaufen den Kauf einer Telefondienstleistung einschließt.
6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, wobei das Kaufen die Dekrementierung der Geldwertdaten um die Kosten der Ware oder Dienstleistung einschließt.
7. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, wobei das Abheben die Dekrementierung der Geldwertdaten um den abgehobene Betrag einschließt.
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, wobei beim Kaufen:
einem Händler die Karte und ein Gegenstand mit einem Kaufpreis präsentiert wird;
die Kartenidentifikationsdaten, eine zweite persönliche Identifikationsnummer und den Kaufpreis angebende Daten an das Kartenverarbeitungszentrum übertragen werden; und
verifiziert wird, daß die zweite persönliche Identifikationsnummer der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer gleich ist.
9. Verfahren nach Anspruch 8, wobei ferner verifiziert wird, daß der Geldwert mindestens so groß ist wie der Kaufpreis.
10. Verfahren nach Anspruch 9, wobei ferner die Geldwertdaten um den Betrag der Kaufpreisdaten dekrementiert werden.
11. Verfahren nach Anspruch 10, wobei ferner eine Genehmigung an den Händler übertragen wird.
12. Verfahren nach Anspruch 11, wobei der Händler eine Karten-Akzeptierungsvorrichtung hat.
13. Verfahren nach Anspruch 8, wobei das Übertragen eine Übertragung über das Kommunikationsnetz umfaßt.
14. Verfahren nach Anspruch 11, wobei das Übertragen der Genehmigung eine Übertragung über das Kommunikationsnetz umfaßt.
15. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, wobei beim Abheben:
einem Händler die Karte und der abzuhebende Betrag präsentiert wird;
die Kartenidentifikationsdaten, eine zweite persönliche Identifikationsnummer und den Abhebebetrag angebende Daten an das Kartenverarbeitungszentrum übertragen werden;
verifiziert wird, daß die zweite persönliche Identifikationsnummer der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer gleich ist; und
verifiziert wird, daß der Geldwert mindestens so groß ist wie der Abhebebetrag.
16. Verfahren nach Anspruch 15, wobei ferner:
die Geldwertdaten um die Abhebebetragsdaten dekrementiert werden;
der Händler autorisiert wird, dem autorisierten Kartenbenutzer einen dem Abhebebetrag entsprechenden Geldbetrag zu übertragen; und
dem autorisierten Kartenbenutzer ein dem Abhebebetrag entsprechender Geldbetrag übertragen wird.
17. Verfahren nach Anspruch 16, wobei der Händler eine Karten-Akzeptierungsvorrichtung hat.
18. Verfahren nach Anspruch 15, wobei das Übertragen eine Übertragung über das Kommunikationsnetz umfaßt.
19. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei ferner die gespeicherte persönliche Identifikationsnummer geändert wird.
20. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Karte vor Ausführung der Aktivierung inaktiv ist.
21. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Geldwertdaten einem einem Händler gegebenen Zahlungsbetrag entsprechen.
22. Verfahren nach Anspruch 21, wobei der Händler eine Karten-Akzeptierungsvorrichtung hat.
23. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Aktivierung von einem Arbeitgeber ausgeführt wird, und die Geldwertdaten die Nettobezahlung eines Angestellten anzeigen.
24. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Aktivierung von einem Schenkungsgeber ausgeführt wird, und die Geldwertdaten den Schenkungsbetrag anzeigen.
25. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Aktivierung von einem Produktwerber ausgeführt wird und die Geldwertdaten den Werbebetrag anzeigen.
26. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Aktivierung von einem Geldübertrager ausgeführt wird, und die Geldwertdaten einen Betrag anzeigen, der zu einem Geldempfänger übertragen werden soll.
-27. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Aktivierung durch einen Arbeitgeber ausgeführt wird und die Geldwertdaten einen Betrag zur Verwendung der Bezahlung von Umzugsaufwendungen anzeigt.
28. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Kommunikationsnetz das Internet ist.
29. Verfahren zur Aktivierung einer Vorausbezahlt-Karte mit zugeordneten Kartenidentifikationsdaten, wobei:
der Karte eine persönliche Identifikationsnummer zur Verwendung mit den Kartenidentifikationsdaten zugeteilt wird; und
die Kartenidentifikationsdaten, die persönliche Identifikationsnummer und Geldwert anzeigende Daten über ein Kommunikationsnetz zu einem Kartenverarbeitungszentrum übertragen werden, wobei das Kartenverarbeitungszentrum durch Speicherung der Kartenidentifikationsdaten, der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer und der Geldwertdaten aktiviert wird, um einen autorisierten Benutzer der Karte zu verifizieren, wenn der autorisierte Kartenbenutzer eine Kartentransaktion einleitet.
30. Verfahren nach Anspruch 29, wobei ferner mehr als eine Karte in einem Stapelformat aktiviert wird.
31. Verfahren nach Anspruch 30, wobei jede Karte an einen Benutzer dieser Karte verteilt wird.
32. Verfahren nach Anspruch 31, wobei ferner ein Geldwertbetrag zu dem Kartenkonto hinzuaddiert wird, und das Kartenverarbeitungszentrum die Geldwertdaten um diesen Geldwertbetrag inkrementiert.
33. Verfahren nach Anspruch 32, wobei ferner periodisch ein Geldwert zu dem Kartenkonto hinzuaddiert wird.
34. Verfahren nach Anspruch 29, wobei ferner die gespeicherte persönliche Identifikationsnummer geändert wird.
35. Verfahren nach Anspruch 29, wobei ferner: '
auf einen Telefondienstleistungen-Bereitsteller zugegriffen wird; und
die Kartenidentifikationsdaten und die persönliche Identifikationsnummer an den Telefondienstleistungen-Bereitsteller übertragen werden.

37. System zur Verwendung einer Vorausbezahlt-Karte mit zugeordneten Kartenidentifikationsdaten, mit:
einem Terminal, das die Kartenidentifikationsdaten von der Karte liest und die Kartenidentifikationsdaten, eine persönliche Identifikationsnummer und Geldwert anzeigende Daten überträgt; und
einem mit dem Terminal über ein Kommunikationsnetz in Verbindung stehenden Kartenverarbeitungszentrum zum Empfangen der Kartenidentifikationsdaten, der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer und der Geldwertdaten, wobei das Kartenverarbeitungszentrum die Karte durch Speicherung der Kartenidentifikationsdaten, der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer und der Geldwertdaten in einem Kartenkonto aktiviert und die Verifikation der Gültigkeit der Kartenidentifikationsdaten durch Verwendung der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer freigibt, wenn ein autorisierter Kartenbenutzer eine Kartentransaktion einzuleiten versucht.
38. System nach Anspruch 37, ferner mit einem Aussteller, der die Karte ausstellt.
39. Verfahren nach Anspruch 38, wobei der Aussteller eine Bank umfaßt.
40. System nach Anspruch 37, wobei mehr als eine Karte in einem Stapelformat aktiviert wird.
41. System nach Anspruch 40, wobei jede Karte an einen Benutzer dieser Karte verteilt wird.
42. System nach Anspruch 37, wobei ein Geldwertbetrag zu dem Kartenkonto hinzuaddiert wird, indem die Geldwertdaten um den Geldwertbetrag inkrementiert werden.
43. System nach Anspruch 42, wobei periodisch Geldwert zu dem Kartenkonto hinzuaddiert wird.
44. System nach Anspruch 37, wobei der autorisierte Kartenbenutzer die gespeicherte persönliche Identifikationsnummer ändert.

48. Verfahren zum Aktivieren einer Vorausbezahlt-Karte mit zugeordneten Kartenidentifikationsdaten, wobei:
die Kartenidentifikationsdaten, eine persönliche Identifikationsnummer zur Verwendung mit den Kartenidentifikationsdaten und Geldwert anzeigende Daten über ein Kommunikationsnetz empfangen werden; und
die Karte durch Speicherung der Kartenidentifikationsdaten, der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer und der Geldwertdaten aktiviert wird, um die Verifikation eines autorisierten Kartenbenutzers zu ermöglichen, wenn der autorisierte Kartenbenutzer eine Kartentransaktion einleitet.
49. Verfahren nach Anspruch 48, wobei ferner mehr als eine Karte in einem Stapelformat aktiviert wird.
50. Verfahren nach Anspruch 49, wobei ferner jede Karte an einen Benutzer dieser Karte verteilt wird.
51. Verfahren nach Anspruch 48, wobei ferner die Geldwertdaten in einem Kartenkonto gespeichert werden.
52. Verfahren nach Anspruch 51, wobei ferner ein Geldwertbetrag zu dem Kartenkonto hinzuaddiert wird, indem die Geldwertdaten um den Geldwertbetrag inkrementiert werden.
53. Verfahren nach Anspruch 52, wobei ferner Geldwert periodisch zu dem Kartenkonto hinzuaddiert wird.
54. Verfahren nach Anspruch 48, wobei ferner die"1 gespeicherte persönliche Identifikationsnummer geändert wird.

56. Verfahren zum Verarbeiten einer Vorausbezahlt-Karte mit zugeordneten Kartenidentifikationsdaten, wobei:
die Kartenidentifikationsdaten, eine persönliche Identifikationsnummer zur Verwendung mit den Kartenidentifikationsdaten und Geldwert anzeigende Daten über ein Kommunikationsnetz empfangen werden;
die Karte durch Speicherung der Kartenidentifikationsdaten, der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer und der Geldwertdaten aktiviert wird, um die Verifikation eines autorisierten Kartenbenutzers zu ermöglichen, wenn der autorisierte Kartenbenutzer eine Kartentransaktion einleitet;
die Karte und ein Gegenstand mit einem Kaufpreis einem Händler präsentiert werden;
die Kartenidentifikationsdaten, eine zweite persönliche Identifikationsnummer und den Kaufpreis anzeigende Daten empfangen werden; und
verifiziert wird, daß die zweite persönliche Identifikationsnummer der persönlichen Identifikationsnummer gleich ist.
57. Verfahren nach Anspruch 56, wobei ferner verifiziert wird, daß der Geldwert mindestens so groß ist wie der Kaufpreis.
58. Verfahren nach Anspruch 57, wobei ferner die Geldwertdaten um den Betrag der Kaufpreisdaten dekrementiert werden.
59. Verfahren nach Anspruch 58, wobei ferner eine Genehmigung an den Händler übertragen wird.
