Description
Backwashable liquid filter with loose filter material The invention relates to liquid filters filled with granular filter material in which the to filtering liquid flows from top to bottom through the filter bed and thereby their impurities deposited on the grains or with them even a substance or is subjected to ion exchange. Liquids to be filtered can be, for example mechanically heavily polluted or chemically pretreated raw water, sugar, Starch and other solutions as well as fruit juices, spinning baths in the synthetic fiber industry and the most diverse chemical and pharmaceutical working fluids Industry come into consideration. Depending on the purpose of the filter, the filter material can accordingly, for example, made of quartz gravel, marble, magnomass or in particular consist of a wide variety of special materials intended for ion exchange.
Such filters have long been known, but have the essential Disadvantage that the uppermost liquid to be filtered was applied first Layer of the filter bed clogged or used up very quickly, so that the filter must be rinsed or regenerated before the deeper layers of the filter bed at all noticeably contributed to the filtering.
When backwashing or regenerating the filters, those from below here - i.e. in the opposite direction to the filtering process - water or regeneration solution and often compressed air are forced through the filter bed, float the grains of the filter material in the flowing water or water-air mixture in a dancing motion, removing the impurities adhering to the grains rinsed or the filter grains regenerated to the desired extent. Unfortunately results however, with this inevitable backwashing or. Regeneration process the disadvantage, that it is precisely the large grains that migrate downwards, but the finer ones upwards strive while in the interests of one over the entire height of the filter bed evenly distributed filter effect the coarse grains above, but the fine grains below should lie.
This repeatedly results in the above-mentioned difficulty, that these filters because of the excessive one-sided stress on the top layers become clogged or exhausted very quickly and flushed or regenerated prematurely Need to become.
It is already known that such filters are not only used in the upstream to rinse, but also for cleaning or chemical treatment of the ones to be filtered To operate liquid in an upward flow with high flow rate and the feared short-circuit breaking of the filter layer by not yet finished treated liquid partial flows through in the uppermost layer of the filter bed arranged, specially designed drainage systems and through maintenance to switch off a counter pressure above the filter bed. This proposal was made however overlooked the great danger that at the desired high flow rate the finest grains of the filter material lying directly in front of the drainage system are continuously carried away by the flowing pure liquid. Help against it also the proposed metal mesh sieves surrounding the drainage system the duration nothing, since they inevitably clog up in a disproportionately short time.
In contrast, it is proposed according to the invention, the entire in one uniform, not subdivided space (e.g. by intermediate floors) introduced filter bed to be composed of two or more layers of different types of grain in such a way that the coarsest grains of the filter material have the lowest sink rate, the smallest However, grains have the greatest sink rate. With such a filter material the coarsest grains will rise during the rinsing process, but the finest deposit downwards, d. H. in other words, exactly the stratification desired for the filtering process produce automatically.
This effect could not be achieved so far because of the filter beds consisted of the same material of only different grain, so that the coarse and the fine grains mixed together or even so segregated. that after backwashing is completely undesirable for operation the finest grains at the top, but the coarsest at the bottom.
To realize the idea of the invention, the procedure must be as follows: that the coarsest grains of the filter bed from the specifically lightest, the finest but consist of the specifically heaviest material, in such a way that - at the transition from the coarsest to the finest grain - the influence of the specific weight on the rate of descent is stronger than the influence of the grain size. As coarse-grained and light Materials are porous bodies here. preferably coke. Pumice. Foam concrete and plastic bodies of various grain sizes and densities, in particular the the two last-mentioned materials by means of suitable processes specifically with planned Porosity or consistency can be produced in this way. that - based on volume of the whole grain - the specific weight and grain size the desired values correspond.
The arrangement is also in the case of the filters set up according to the invention the trap sieves or trap chambers in the detergent discharge line, which have long been known per se advantageous, so that the loss - especially of coarse-grained filter material of low rate of descent - prevented or at least largely prevented during flushing is decreased.
In addition to the storage of the filter bed which is aimed at according to the invention in several different, but similar grain layers on top of each other to favor. it is recommended to add air towards the end of the backwashing process to stop rinsing liquid and the flow rate of the liquid gradually lower to zero.
