Description
The invention relates to a method for generating a short decaying vibration train for echo sounding by means of a vibratory piezoelectric or electrostrictive transducer, e.g. B. from barium titanate, in which the transducer stretched by shock-free charging of its capacity in the direction of oscillation or by constant-current excitation or is shortened.
When measuring echo depth and distance, it is often desirable to use extremely short distances to be able to measure. If you have only one electroacoustic transducer in a transceiver circuit works, the smallest distance that can be displayed depends on the length of the sent Impulses and on the speed with which the receptionist is ready to receive regains. Since this can usually be built in such a way that it is ready to receive again very quickly the main thing is to generate the shortest possible impulses.
Small pulse lengths can be achieved by shock excitation of the transducer, which creates a pulse radiates in the form of a damped wave train. The vibration train must quickly subside in order for the measurement to take place To enable smaller distances, because vibrations above a certain strength due to overload or blocking the receiving amplifier prevent an echo from being displayed.
There are two types of shock excitation using a charged capacitor for magnetostrictive transducers known. In one type, this is discharged directly through the winding of the transducer others, the discharge takes place in a tuned resonance circuit, which in turn is coupled to the converter is. The latter method is also suitable for the shock excitation of crystal wall larvae. Even with the greatest possible Efficiency is at least half of the energy supplied in the impedance of the resonance circuit lost, so that less than half of it goes to the generation of sound energy by the Converter is available. It is desirable to generate a certain oscillation amplitude to keep the amount of electrical energy to be expended as small as possible.
Nach Fortfall der elektrischen Antriebskraft fährt der Wandlerkörper Verfahren und VorrichtungIn all known arrangements for electrical shock excitation of transducers, the transducer assigns There is no mechanical tension at the beginning of the pulse transmission. Only when the electrical vibration energy begins to act, alternating forces acting on the vibratory transducer body generated, which last for some periods and through which the oscillation amplitude up to increases to a maximum. When the electrical drive force ceases, the converter body moves Method and device

Ein Teil davoncontinue to perform mechanical vibrations until the vibration energy is consumed. The radiation of sound energy begins at the same time as the oscillation amplitude of the transducer builds up. The shape of the generated oscillation pulse therefore initially shows an increase in the oscillation amplitude over one to several periods up to a maximum value and a subsequent, usually slower one Decay of the oscillation amplitude towards zero. The method of shock excitation according to the invention is based on the knowledge that the total pulse duration can be shortened considerably if the time in which the amplitude is slowly increased can be saved, d. H. so, when the oscillation of the transducer body begins without transition with the maximum value of the amplitude. this can be achieved in that the transducer is not excited by an electrical oscillation, but according to the invention after sudden cancellation of a mechanical generated by means of a direct voltage Voltage state by short-circuiting the converter or interrupting the exciter track current performs mechanical vibrations. The converter is no longer part of a damped oscillation circuit, rather, its mechanical properties now appear as a vibratory body Foreground. Some time before the pulse is emitted, the converter receives electrical energy in a steady manner Electricity, d. H. bumpless, fed. A part of it

Fig. 4 zeigt die Kurvethe breaking point of the crystal. The mechanical stress thus generated is illustrated by point 24 on the curve in FIG. 3. It is created gradually, and the resistance 15 is so great that the crystal 10 has no tendency to oscillate as long as the charge on its plates 11 and 12 is present. The transducer is compressed by a certain amount as a result of the initial mechanical tension, as shown in FIG. 4 by the deviation of the line 10 & from the normal line 10 α . If the switch 17 is closed, the charge is diverted via the line 13, the switch 17 and the connections to earth. With the potential difference between the plates 11 and 12, the mechanical restraint of the crystal is also canceled, and the crystal tries to assume its original shape again as a result of the elastic properties of the piezoelectric material. However, the elastic forces initially trigger a mechanical tension in the opposite direction of a magnitude as illustrated by the line 10c in FIG. 4. The crystal thus vibrates at a frequency that is only determined by its mechanical constants and its initial maximum amplitude. Fig. 4 shows the curve
A similar curve (solid line) in FIG. 3 shows how the thickness of the crystal 10 changes from a maximum pull or shortening at point 24 to maximum elongation at point 26 of the curve and thereby the reference line 25 passes through. A curve of the resulting pressure wave is shown in broken lines 45 in FIG. 3. It can be seen from this curve 45 that no pressure wave energy is generated before the initial voltage of the crystal 10 is released by closing the switch 17. By comparing FIGS. 2 and 3, it can be seen that the invention shortens the duration of the pressure wave impulses by the time which the transducer in the above-mentioned known excitation circuit needs to reach its mechanical maximum voltage. This enables the use of shorter pulses and the measurement of smaller depths and distances. In addition, the starting edge of the pressure wave pulse according to the invention is essentially rectangular, whereby a sharp pulse is achieved, which contributes significantly to the accuracy of the measurement.
Wie in Fig. 1 liegt der Kristall 10 zwischen zwei ElektrodenIn the circuit of FIG. 5, switch 17 of FIG. 1 is replaced by a gas discharge tube. As in In Fig. 1, the crystal 10 lies between two electrodes
The lower electrode 11 is connected to earth and the upper electrode 12 via the line 13 to a Potential source 14 connected via a current limiting resistor 15. The electrode 12 is also Connected to a receiving amplifier via a coupling capacitor 16, as in Fig. I. In contrast, the switch 17 of FIG. 1 is in the embodiment 5 replaced by a controlled gas discharge tube 21, the anode 28 of which with the upper Electrode 12 of crystal 10 and the cathode 30 of which is connected to earth. The control grid 31 of the gas discharge tube is connected to a source (not shown) of negative potential at terminal 32 via two resistors 33 and 34 connected in series. The connection point 35 of these two resistors and 34 is connected to ground through a normally open switch 36. The screen grid 37 of the gas discharge tube 27, like the cathode, is connected to earth. As described above, in the crystal 10 the electrical voltage applied to its electrodes 11 and 12 initially creates a mechanical voltage generated. The gas discharge tube 27 is initially due to the negative potential on the control grid 31 the source 32 blocked. However, when the switch 36 is closed, the grille 31 is over the Resistor 33 brought to earth potential, tube 27 becomes conductive and takes the voltage from the crystal 10 away. The further operation is the same as in the circuit of FIG. 1, except that the Tube 27 stops conducting when the voltage drop across the high resistance 15 increases the anode voltage drops below the operating voltage.
The switches 17 in Fig. 1 and 36 in Fig. 5 are preferably used as an instantaneous switch that is only for one are closed for a very short time.
B. Bariumtitanat. When applying the invention to magnetostrictive transducers in which the generated mechanical The voltage state depends on the current flowing through the winding, one becomes this first increase to its maximum value shortly before the pulse is emitted. A breaker switch is used then the current when turned off almost instantly made zero. In addition, changes to the Switching possible. In particular, the resistor 15 can only be chosen so large that the charging of the crystal 10 takes place without vibration. But it can also be made much larger, in order to limit the current drawn from the current source 14. This is beneficial when running on batteries is provided. In Fig. 5, this resistor 15 continues to cause the tube 17 to extinguish after she discharged the crystal. This also ensures that after the tube has gone out, the Crystal is effectively damped by the reapplication of the potential exciting the crystal. Further the invention is applicable mutatis mutandis to electrostrictive bodies, e.g. B. barium titanate.
