Außerdem überträgt er das Drehmoment von der Achse 9 des Fahrzeugs auf die Druckscheibe 17 und führt durch seine große, dem Fahrwind ausgesetzte Oberfläche die Bremswärme an die Außenluft ab. Zur Ableitung der Bremswärme aus dem Bremsgehäuse 7 dienen Öffnungen 20 im Radkörper 1 und Bohrungen 21 in der Radnabe 4.
