Description
The invention relates to an optoelectronic component having at least one optoelectronic transmitter or receiver for emitting or receiving a component radiation, and a coupling surface, at which the component radiation is coupled out of the component or coupled into the component.
In addition, the invention relates to a method for producing such a component, in which a basic component form is provided which has at least one optoelectronic transmitter or receiver for emitting or receiving a component radiation and an interface at which the component radiation from the component basic form decoupled or coupled into this.
Under component radiation is to be understood in this context, electromagnetic radiation. This can also be partially or completely converted into radiation of different wavelengths within the component basic form. In such a case, the term component radiation also includes the converted radiation.
Such a device is described for example in Möllmer, Waitl, "Siemens SMT-TOPLED for surface mounting", Siemens Components 29 (1991), No. 5, pages 193 to 196. It has a light-emitting diode mounted in a housing, which is encapsulated by a radiation-permeable potting compound. The potting compound has on the outside an unstructured, substantially planar interface at which a component radiation is coupled out of the component.
The document also describes how an increase in the radiation decoupling from the component can be achieved by applying an external optic to the interface. As an example of an external appearance, a lens is described, which may be made of polycarbonate, for example.
In addition, it is known that with structured radiation decoupling surfaces also a significant increase of coupling or decoupling of electromagnetic radiation can be achieved. An example of such a device is a device described above, on the interface of a Fresnel lens has been applied.
Such components with an applied outer optics have the disadvantage that their production is relatively complicated, since the outer optics manufactured separately and subsequently positioned and fastened very accurately on the radiation coupling-out surface. A difficulty is to apply the outer optics such that an optimal coupling of radiation from the device to the optics and vice versa is ensured. In particular, air gaps between the interface and the optics are to be avoided, at which electromagnetic radiation can be totally reflected.

The present invention has for its object to provide an optoelectronic device of the type mentioned above with a structured coupling surface, which is simple and inexpensive to produce. Another object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive method of manufacturing such an optoelectronic device.
These objects are achieved by a component having the features of claim 1 or by a method having the features of claim 5. Advantageous developments of the device are the subject of
According to the invention, the coupling surface of the optoelectronic component of the type mentioned at the beginning is at least partially formed from surfaces of a large number of coupling elements and structured by them in three dimensions. In this case, the coupling elements essentially have a permeable to the component radiation cured polymer composition.
In the method according to the invention for producing the component, the coupling surface is produced by forming a plurality of coupling elements on the interface of the component basic form. This is done by applying and curing a plurality of drops, which essentially have a curable polymer composition. The polymer composition is permeable to the component radiation at least in a cured state.
The term "mass" in the term "polymer composition" for the purposes of the invention does not imply that the polymer composition has a certain minimum viscosity. Rather, in the uncured state, this may in particular also have such a low viscosity that its consistency can be described as liquid.
For the production of the optoelectronic component, it is advantageously not necessary to produce an external optic in a separate process and to apply it to the interface of the component basic form. Rather, the coupling elements are formed of a material which essentially has a polymer composition directly on the interface. The material is in a liquid or viscous state and is applied in the form of drops on the interface. This is preferably done in such a way that the drops reach the interface in a free flight, that is to say they can be dropped onto or shot at the interface, for example. This can be done, for example, according to a principle as used in inkjet printers.
Advantageously, the drops are already hardened during the application to a significant degree. This means that the viscosity of the droplets is increased during the application such that they do not melt into a thin film after impact with the interface, or splinter into many parts, but remain as three-dimensional elements on the interface. On the other hand, the thus hardened drops can deform very well after and in particular also during the impact on the boundary surface. The term drop, in the context of the invention, denotes a specific volume of a liquid or a mass, which may have any desired shape.
Preferably, a reaction mass which is curable by means of electromagnetic radiation or initiated by heat is used as the polymer mass. The hardening of the droplets is initiated by the application of such a polymer mass by applying the droplets with electromagnetic radiation or heat. This is expediently carried out during the application of the drops to the interface.
Reaction masses with such a curing mechanism can be converted into a gel phase in a rapid initiation-initiated process. Such an achievable hardening can take place within a short time, which may even be less than one second.
It is particularly preferred to use a reaction mass which is initiated by a UV radiation and is curable. The hardening of the drops is initiated in this case by applying UV radiation, which in turn advantageously takes place during the application of the drops to the interface.
A UV-curable reaction mass has the advantage over a reaction mass, which is curable initiated by radiation from the visible spectral range, that it need not be protected from light before applying the drops, so that premature initiation of curing is avoided.
By means of electromagnetic radiation, the drops can be irradiated, whereby an initiation of the curing in the entire volume of the drop takes place substantially simultaneously, whereas at an initiation by heat supply, this first takes place at the outer area of the drop.
In a preferred embodiment, the polymer composition used is a resin composition, preferably an epoxy resin composition.
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the method involves heating the device base mold prior to applying and curing the drops so that the interface has an elevated temperature. Preferably, the interface is heated to a temperature between 60 ° C inclusive and 130 ° C inclusive. Due to the increased temperature of the interface, the hardening of the drops is accelerated, in particular from their impact on the interface.
Expediently, the component basic form comprises a potting permeable to the component radiation, with which the optoelectronic transmitter or receiver is encapsulated. In this embodiment, the interface of the component basic shape is formed by a surface of the potting.
The coupling elements are advantageously formed with a mean extent between 50 microns inclusive and including 500 microns. Expansion in this context means the length of a coupling element projected onto a straight line, the straight line extending in a main plane of extension of the boundary surface. The mean extent is therefore the average over all directions expansion of a coupling element.
Particularly preferably, the coupling elements are formed with a lenticular shape, which favors a coupling or coupling of electromagnetic radiation.
0–19% Vinylether
0–10% aliphatischer oder cycloaliphatischer Alkohol
0–5% Haftvermittler
0,1–5% Photoinitiator für kationisch initiierte Härtung. As the polymer composition, an epoxy resin having a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A as a main component and a cation-releasing photoinitiator is preferably used. With particular advantage, an epoxy resin is used for this purpose, which comprises the following components stated in percent by weight:
80 to 99% di- and polyfunctional epoxy resins
0 to 10% monofunctional epoxy resin
0-19% vinyl ether
0-10% aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol
0-5% adhesion promoter
0.1-5% photoinitiator for cationic initiated cure.
A composition of the polymer composition is advantageously selected such that it has a sufficiently high glass transition temperature of 100 ° C and more.
Preferably, the polymer composition is optically adapted to a material on which the coupling elements are arranged. The refractive index of the cured polymer composition may be more than 1.5.
All embodiments and advantages described in connection with the method also apply to the component produced in this way.

One modification involves the addition of a certain amount of vinyl ethers, with the help of which the hardening time of the drops can be further shortened. In addition, according to the invention, it is possible to add further substances, as long as the epoxy resin or, in the more general case, the polymer remains permeable to radiation and curable. So z. For example, a luminescence conversion material may be included in the polymer composition.
The resin composition may be curable within about one second or less and exhibits sufficient adhesive strength after complete cure. It survives solder bath conditions without damage and without reducing the thermo-mechanical properties of the coupling elements.
