Description
The The present invention initially relates to a method for reversible Storing atomic hydrogen at / in carbon micro and / or nanomaterial. Furthermore, the invention relates to a corresponding hydrogen storage.
The The present invention accordingly relates to the technical field of Hydrogen storage, which lately significant importance and the winner is.
Folglich ist die Schaffung geeigneter Speichermittel für die effiziente Speicherung von Wasserstoff ein bedeutendes Ziel, welches erreicht werden muß, bevor sich eine weitverbreitete Verwendung von Wasserstoff als Brennstoff einstellen kann.hydrogen is used as zero-emission fuel (in terms of emissions of toxic or climate-influencing process gases) considered because in his Use, for example in thermal engine, in fuel cell applications or like that, only water is generated. Consequently, the creation is suitable storage means for the efficient storage of hydrogen is an important goal, which must be achieved before a widespread use of hydrogen as a fuel can adjust.
It is already known from WO 01/53199 A2 that molecular hydrogen (H 2 ) can be reversibly stored on carbon nanomaterial in the form of so-called single-walled nanotube material (SWNT material). In this context, "reversible" means in the light of the present description that the hydrogen molecules can be attached to the carbon nanomaterial, that is to say they can be stored, but the hydrogen molecules can also be detached and released again from the carbon nanomaterial. that the molecular hydrogen can attach to the surfaces of the SWNT material, that is adsorb, and that it is discharged again under certain temperature conditions, that is desorbed.
Hydrogen storage in carbon nanotubes (carbon nanotubes) with molecular hydrogen As a medium to be stored, the steps that initially suitable Carbon nanomaterial needs to be generated and purified that the carbon nanomaterial subsequently molecular hydrogen at or above atmospheric pressure is exposed to the external hydrogen pressure is increased and that the stored hydrogen molecules are held in the carbon nanomaterial Need to become. To release the stored hydrogen molecules is the carbon nanomaterial at an elevated temperature, the so-called Desorption temperature, heated.
Außerdem ist die Bindungsstärke zwischen den Wasserstoffmolekülen und dem Kohlenstoff-Nanomaterial im Speicherzustand relativ gering.adversely in the known solution is, inter alia, that because of the low bond strength between the hydrogen molecules and the carbon nanomaterial in normal environmental conditions only a limited amount of hydrogen molecules in / on Carbon nanomaterial can be stored. Besides that is the bond strength between the hydrogen molecules and the carbon nanomaterial in the storage state relatively low.
This is the object of the present invention, a Process for the reversible storage of hydrogen on / in carbon micro and / or nanomaterial and to provide a hydrogen storage with which the described Disadvantages can be avoided.

- a) zum Speichern von atomarem Wasserstoff: Anlagern des atomaren Wasserstoffs an dem Kohlenstoff-Mikro- und/oder – Nanomaterial mittels Adsorption, insbesondere mittels Chemisorption;
- a) storing atomic hydrogen: attaching the atomic hydrogen to the carbon micro- and / or - nanomaterial by means of adsorption, in particular by chemisorption;
- b) for discharging atomic hydrogen: heating of the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial for the purpose of thermal desorption a certain desorption temperature such that the atomic hydrogen dissolves from the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial and subsequent recombination of the released atomic hydrogen into hydrogen molecules.
The inventive method looks first that the atomic hydrogen is reversible on / in the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial should be stored. It means that the carbon at both the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial attached, that is stored as well as detached from the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial again, the is called can be removed.
When dealing with carbon nanomaterials it is a material that has particles whose dimensions in the range of nanometers.
In a first step, the storage step, is initially provided, that atomic hydrogen attaches to the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial is, according to the invention by means of Adsorption, in particular by means of chemisorption occurs. adsorption generally means the addition of gases or solutes at the interface of a solid or liquid Phase. Chemisorption is a special case Adsorption, in which the adsorbed atoms on the surface of a Solid, here the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial, by chemical Bindings are held.
In In a further step, the delivery step, the carbon microbial and / or - nanomaterial for the purpose of thermal desorption to a certain temperature, the so-called Desprotionstemperatur, heated, so that the stored atomic hydrogen from the carbon micro- and / or Dissolve nanomaterial can. Desorption is generally the reverse reaction Adsorption / chemisorption, but in most cases a significant higher Activation energy is applied. To get the atomic hydrogen, in the first storage step at the surfaces of the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterials from carbon micro and / or nanomaterials to solve and recover, consequently, the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial is at least heated to the desorption temperature at which the atomic hydrogen be recovered can.
The hydrogen atoms are released from the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial, that is, they are released, and then recombine to hydrogen molecules (H 2 ). In addition, while energy is released, which can be used further, in particular for increasing the temperature of the storage medium itself. This will be discussed in more detail later in the description.
Of the The present invention is based on the finding that hydrogen atoms on the surfaces adsorbed / chemisorbed by carbon micro- and / or nanomaterials can be. hydrogen stays on the surfaces the carbon micro and / or nanomaterials up to the desorption temperature adsorbed. By heating the hydrogen-coated / coated Carbon micro- and / or nanomaterials at elevated temperatures greater or equal the desorption temperature can be recovered atomic hydrogen and be recombined into molecular hydrogen.
By the use of the highly specific surface area of carbon micro and / or nanomaterial arrays can be great Save amounts of hydrogen.
Dabei ist vorteilhaft vorgesehen, dass das Verfahren zum reversiblen Speichern von atomarem Wasserstoff in Form von Wasserstoffatomen (H) und/oder Deuteriumatomen (D) ausgebildet ist.there is advantageously provided that the method for reversible storage of atomic hydrogen in the form of hydrogen atoms (H) and / or Deuterium atoms (D) is formed.
Preferably may use the method atomic hydrogen on the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial with a maximum storage capacity of one hydrogen atom per carbon atom, equivalent with 8% by weight.
Provided atomic hydrogen stored at / in carbon nanomaterial is the present invention is not limited to certain types of Limited carbon nanomaterials. So can the procedure for example, for the reversible storage of atomic hydrogen on / in carbon nanomaterial in the form of nanotubes, in particular Single-walled nanotubes (SWNT) or multi-walled nanotubes (MWNT) and / or nanofibers (Nanofibres) and / or nanoshells (nanoscale) are used. The carbon nanomaterial can be in the form of a Powder present.
Advantageous The process can be used to reversibly store atomic hydrogen on / in carbon micro and / or nanomaterial in the form of oriented Carbon micro and / or nanomaterial are used. In further embodiment can the carbon micro and / or nanomaterials a directed Structure have.
In preferred embodiment are the carbon micro and / or nanomaterials helically educated. This helical Structure can be described by way of example with the form of a "spiral staircase". The helical ones Nanostructures can advantageous as helical Carbon nanofibers be formed, thus initially an outer in a longitudinal direction running structure in the form of the helix and additionally one have inner structure. This inner structure, in the exemplary Example of the "spiral staircase" would form the individual "stairs" includes individual Carbon levels. Such a structure has because of its many edges (edges) significant benefits.
Nachfolgend werden hierzu einige nicht ausschließliche Beispiele beschrieben.to execution of the procedure can first be provided that in a manufacturing step atomic hydrogen is produced. This can be done in different ways, so that the invention is not limited to specific embodiments. In the following some non-exclusive examples will be described.
As a general rule can the atomic hydrogen first be generated in at least one atomic source. It can be in the produced atomic hydrogen to thermal (2000 K) act hydrogen.
For example can be provided that the atomic hydrogen in at least a known per se, designed as a plasma source atom source is produced. Examples of suitable plasma sources are low-temperature DC - (Low Temperature DC -), microwave, RF plasma sources and the like.
In Another embodiment is conceivable that the atomic hydrogen formed in a particular heated tungsten capillary Atomic source is generated. In the solution with the tungsten capillary this is traversed by molecular hydrogen, causing the molecular Hydrogen is split into atomic hydrogen.
Vorteilhaft
In weiterer Ausgestaltung
Preferably can atomic hydrogen at a temperature between 150 and 300 K, in particular at a temperature of about 200 K, on the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial adsorbed.
As has already been described above, the atomic hydrogen recombined after the desorption step to hydrogen molecules. there is advantageously provided that the desorbed atomic hydrogen is recombined in the gas phase.
To the Desorption purposes are the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial beneficial to temperatures above 350 K, in particular to temperatures in the range of 350 to 1000 K, preferably to a range of 750 to 800 K, heated. At these temperatures dissolve first the hydrogen atoms from the carbon micro and / or nanomaterial. simultaneously the hydrogen atoms recombine at these temperatures to hydrogen molecules.
Bei dieser Reaktion wird Energie frei. Vorteilhaft kann die bei der Rekombination des atomaren Wasserstoffs frei werdende Energie weiteren Prozesse oder Prozeßschritten zur Verfügung gestellt wird.at This reaction releases energy. Advantageously, the at the Recombination of atomic hydrogen released energy further Processes or process steps to disposal is provided.

For example it can be provided that the storage medium is arranged in a pressure vessel is. This is a particularly secure storage of hydrogen guaranteed. For example, from the storage medium, a Feststoffüllung in a storage tank be formed, but at least the storage medium component such a filling be.
The Storage medium may be in any form, for example in the form of Powders and / or conglomerates and / or pellets or the like be.
Daher besteht ein Bedarf, die bisher erreichbare Speicherkapazität von Speichervorrichtungen für Gase, insbesondere Wasserstoff weiter zu erhöhen.at many applications where stored hydrogen is used is to be, it depends, with the smallest possible storage volume and memory weight of the memory device one possible size Gas storage can store (if possible high specific storage capacity). This requirement applies in particular to mobile applications, ie for example in hydrogen tanks for vehicles, which are operated with fuel cells. Therefore, there is a need the previously achievable storage capacity of storage devices for gases, in particular to further increase hydrogen.
Preferably Therefore, the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial in shape be formed of conglomerates, the invention is not on certain forms of conglomerates is limited. At the conglomerates For example, it can be bundles of carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial, like this for example, in the already mentioned WO 01/53199 A2 is whose disclosure content in this respect in the present description is involved.
A increase the storage capacity for the gas may also be generated when the carbon micro and / or nanomaterials as coherent Conglomerates are formed. This can be done in a predetermined Storage volume of a storage container more material can be introduced than this by simply filling carbon particles with micro- and / or nanostructure would be possible.
Thereby is such a hydrogen storage for both stationary and mobile Applications can be used.
2,0 g/cm3 liegen.Advantageously, at least individual conglomerates are compressed with respect to the apparent density of the originally loose carbon micro- and / or nanomaterials increased apparent density. In this way, a large amount of gas can be stored at a comparatively small storage volume of the storage container, as in the predetermined storage volume of the storage container more storage mass is introduced, as would be possible by simply filling storage mass. The apparent density is understood to mean the weight related to the volume of the conglomerate. Advantageously, the apparent density of the conglomerates prepared from the originally loose particles of the carbon micro- and / or nanomaterial may be increased at least 1.5 times, preferably at least 2 times, the original apparent density. Usually, the original apparent density is about 1.0 g / cm 3 , so that the values to be aimed at during densification are preferably at minimum densities of 1.5 and 2.0 g / cm 3 .
By a densification of the carbon micro and / or nanomaterials There is another advantage associated with it. This is that the individual Particles inevitably held together so that with it when unloading the storage container an undesirable Delivery of the smallest particles counteracted with the withdrawn gas stream becomes. The escape of particles into downstream aggregates or the environment could namely in certain circumstances lead to technical problems or violate emission regulations regarding micro particles.
Advantageous is the storage medium - like already described above - in the form of carbon nanomaterials in the form of nanotubes, in particular single-walled nanotubes (SWNT) or multi-walled nanotubes (MWNT) and / or nanofibers and / or nanoshells and / or oriented Carbon nanomaterial formed. Of course, the storage medium also in the form of carbon micromaterials, which are also beneficial may have a shape as described above.
According to one Another aspect of the invention may be a carbon micromaterial and / or a carbon nanomaterial, in particular in the form of nanotubes (Nanotubes), in particular single-walled nanotubes (SWNT) or multi-walled nanotubes (MWNT) and / or nanofibers and / or nanoshells and / or oriented carbon nanomaterials as a storage medium for atomic hydrogen can be used.

These Spectra undoubtedly show that H (D) atoms on the surfaces of the NT sample chemisorbed become, which results already from the Desorptionsspektren Has.
Interestingly, were the normal and parallel vibration frequencies of H (D) at the NT sample towards higher Frequencies shifted compared to H (D) at HOPG. That makes it clear that H (D) stronger attached to the NT sample than is the case with HOPG. This is in agreement with the conclusions, which can be drawn from the thermal desorption spectra.
From these experimental data, it becomes clear that H and D atoms adsorb to the surfaces of SWNTs. Upon addition of H (D) atoms to the SWNT surfaces, the measured spectra reveal recombinant molecular H 2 (D 2 ) and atomic H (D) desorption between 350 K (400 K) and 950 K (1000 K), with a major peak at about 760 K (790 K). The CH (D) bond strength is greater than that observed on the planar (0001) surfaces of graphite.
