Description
Process for reducing pilling of textile material based on of polyesters containing six-membered carbocyclic rings Below >> Pillinga by woven fabrics one understands the phenomenon that when wearing textile materials individual fibers are pulled out of the fabric association from such fabrics and intertwine and twist into globules that are firmly anchored in the tissue. This phenomenon occurs mainly in fabrics made from man-made fibers. The pilling is troublesome because it is the textile materials, e.g. B. suits, shirts, ties etc., an unfavorable appearance and the quality of the material as well is affected. It could, for example, by strong twisting or by. special twisting process for yarns made from pure man-made fibers or blends Made of man-made fibers and natural fibers, the pilling of Tissues are greatly degraded. It has also been found that the ability for pilling of fabrics made of man-made fibers is reduced when they are in a suitable manner Wise brushes, shears and sings. The tendency to pilling depends on both the tissue structure as well as the type of weave, the density of the fabric, the surface structure depends on the fiber and the staple length.
It has now been found that there is a tendency towards pilling of textile materials from polyesters containing six-membered carbocyclic rings, especially those based on aromatic dicarboxylic acids, such as. B. poly-polymethylene terephthalate, Polyethylene glycol terephthalate, significantly reduce or completely suppress can, if you treat the material with hydrogen peroxide, expediently in aqueous-alkaline Solution, treated.
It is important that the process according to the invention achieve a gradual reduction in the individual fiber strength values. This reduction can be controlled in a simple manner by measuring the intrinsic viscosity of the degraded material. The limiting viscosity number represents the following quantity where the concentration c of the measurement solution is given in g (grams) of the substance to be measured per 100 cm3 of solvent. Z? I means the relative viscosity, which is calculated as the quotient of the viscosity of the solution to the pure solvent.
B. Wannen, Kufen, Haspeln, Sternreifen u. ä., erfolgen. For the method according to the present invention, the linear high polymer material can be used in a wide variety of forms, e.g. B. as Cable before cutting or in the form of staple fibers as well as yarn or finished Woven, knitted or knitted fabric. The treatment can also be carried out during the fitting process - i.e. before or after dyeing, washing, fixing or decatizing will. One works in aqueous-alkaline liquor, whereby the concentration of the hydrogen peroxide usually more than 3 g / 1, preferably 5 g / 1, active oxygen should be. The temperatures to be used can vary within wide limits. One becomes expedient choose temperatures that allow the treatment time to be economical To keep boundaries. It is also possible to use the polyester material to be degraded at temperatures to be treated under pressure above the boiling point of the treatment liquor. The treatment can be used in the devices commonly used in textile chemistry, e.g. B. tubs, runners, reels, Star hoops and the like.
ä.The degradation can be measured by the decrease in the intrinsic viscosity, using the Ubbelohde or Ostwald viscometer. One can through preliminary experiments Easily determine the duration and temperature of exposure to chemicals by the degree of degradation of the treated material is measured continuously. On the other hand is It is also possible to take samples during the treatment, while the treatment can be interrupted if necessary. The one required for viscosity measurement Time depends on the solvency of the solvent used for the treated Textile material and generally varies between 1/2 and 2 hours. Appropriately is used as a solvent z. B. for polyethylene glycol terephthalate phenol, Tetrachloroethane or mixtures of the two compounds, o-chlorophenol and the like.
The intrinsic viscosity of the high polymer fiber material may as well as its strength does not fall below a certain limit. This is dependent of the type of material to be treated and is z. B. for polyethylene glycol terephthalate at a limiting viscosity number between Zi7 = 0.35 and Z? i = 0.45, if the normal Initial limiting viscosity number Z77 = 0.55 to 0.65.
There is an advantageous embodiment for the method according to the invention therein, the material to be treated in a concentrated aqueous solution of the aforesaid Dip the oxidant and leave it in the solution for some time. The length of time depends on the temperature used and the material to be mined. she can vary between a few minutes and several hours when temperatures between 20 ° C and the boiling point of the solution.
If the tendency towards pilling of mixed fabrics is to be avoided, see above it is useful to mix the chemical fiber with the natural fibers, eg. B. wool or cotton, according to the method according to the present invention otherwise the properties of the natural fibers may be damaged will.
Example 1 Fabric made of polyethylene glycol terephthalate is used as a raw material in a hydrogen peroxide solution (5 g / 1 active oxygen), which is diluted with Sodium hydroxide solution is adjusted to pH 10, treated for 30 minutes at 60 ° C, so that no Significant hydrolysis of the high polymer material can occur by means of caustic soda can. After rinsing and drying, the pilling ability of the About 60 per cent.
Example 2 Staple fiber yarn made of polyethylene glycol terephthalate is treated at the boil for 45 minutes in a hydrogen peroxide solution which contains 4 to 5 g / l of active oxygen and has been adjusted to pH 8 with dilute sodium hydroxide solution. After the material has been rinsed and dried, the pilling ability of a fabric made from it is found to be about 50 % lower than that of the same fabric made from untreated staple fiber yarn.
