Abstract
Description
The The invention relates to a method for the production of nanocrystalline magnetic iron oxide particles, iron oxide particles prepared according to this method and use of these iron oxide particles.
Conf. On Magn. Nanocrystalline magnetite powders (Fe 3 O 4 , Fe 2+ Fe 3+ 2O 4 ) have hitherto been produced by conventional wet-chemical technologies, ie the magnetite particles are formed by precipitating sparingly soluble iron oxide from an Fe 2+ / Fe 3+ salt solution when an alkaline solution is added Solution, eg NH 4 OH. In this case, the ratio of di- and trivalent iron ions must be adjusted according to the stoichiometric ratio in the magnetite. Possible variations in the production parameters Solution temperature, pH or concentration generally always lead to powders with average particle sizes of around 10 nm. Such particles are usually used for conventional ferrofluids (see also review article "Ferromagnetic Liquids", SW Charles, J. Popplewell in Ferromagnetic Materials, Vol. 2, Ed. EP Wohlfarth, North-Holland Publishing Company, 1980, pp. 509-559). Only in one case has a shift in the mean grain size in the range around 20 nm been reported (Götze T., 9 th Int Conf.On Magn. Fluids 2001, Bremen), which, however, leads to a very large broadening of the grain distribution.
Production methods via FeOOH precursor usually deliver particles whose magnetic properties of the shape anisotropy of the particles (acicular particles) are dominated.
Maghämitpulver werden in analoger Weise aus Fe-Salzlösungen hergestellt, oder durch Oxidation von Fe3O4 unter Erhaltung der Spinellstruktur („Iron oxides in the laboratory", U. Schwertmann und R. Cornell, Wiley-Ch, 2000).Maghämitpulver are prepared in an analogous manner from Fe salt solutions, or by oxidation of Fe 3 O 4 while maintaining the spinel structure ("Iron oxides in the laboratory", U. Schwertman and R. Cornell, Wiley-Ch, 2000).

- 1. Heating of a particle dispersion (ferrofluid) during remagnetization in an alternating field for medical use (Hyperthermia using magnetic alternating fields is still in the stage of animal experiments.) Or
- 2. Detection of biological binding reactions by distinguishing Brown and Neel relaxation by measuring the relaxation time
(I. A. Brezovich, Medical Physica Monograph 16, 82 (1988); und Hergt et al., IEEE Trans Mag 34 (1998) 5, 3745–3754).calculations have shown that for these applications Relaxation times of particles with 20 + - 2 nm diameter especially are suitable [xx], being particularly magnetic for the first application non-"active" particles are disruptive, i.e. it becomes a narrow particle size distribution sought. (For significantly smaller particles can be a corresponding heating only achieved by magnetic fields with frequencies in the MHz or GHz range that are necessary in the Amplitude only consuming or even harmful inductive heating of biological tissue (FMR losses in the GHz range).) (I. A. Brezovich, Medical Physica Monograph 16, 82 (1988); and Hergt et al., IEEE Trans Mag 34 (1998) 5, 3745-3754).
Die
Möglichkeit, über das
Glaskristallisationsverfahren (GKV) magnetische Pulver hoher Phasenreinheit
In these processes, a homogeneous melt supersaturated with iron oxide (Fe 2 O 3 > 20 mol%) of the phase-forming oxides or suitable salts (eg Fe 2 O 3 , BaO, SrO, PbO, CaO, etc.), a glass former or glass former mixture, which leads to acetic acid-soluble phases (eg B 2 O 3 ) and optionally substituents (eg CoO, TiO 2 ) by quenching in the glass state, converted into so-called glass flakes. During the subsequent annealing treatment, the magnetic particles separate in the glass, from which the powder is obtained by dissolving away the glass matrix by means of acetic acid in the case of a borate matrix and a subsequent washing process. About annealing time, annealing temperature and substituents, an adjustment of the grain size and magnetic properties in a wide range is possible.
So far, only the production of powders of Ba ferrite, Sr ferrite, and spinel ferrite MeFe 2 3+ O 4 with Me = Co, Li, Ni, etc., but not Me = Fe 2+ from borate glasses and the production of iron oxide magnetic particles from highly silicate-containing glasses known to be insoluble due to their chemical resistance (without dissolving the iron oxide) or contained in the glass components contained in the spinel grid of magnetite or maghemite are incorporated and thus change the intrinsic properties, or in the powder in addition to magnetite other insoluble or iron-containing phases, and thus are not suitable for powder production in question.
Lots Revelations in the literature treat glasses with Fe contents <10% (especially <1%) due to the low supersaturation to iron oxide for a powder production are unsuitable.
Ber. Glass Sci. Technol. 71C (1998), 424]).Previous attempts to prepare magnetite powders from borate glasses resulted in the formation of predominantly hematite due to a substantial shift in the Fe 2+ / Fe 3+ ratio in the glass to Fe 3+ or the fact that hematite is the thermodynamically more stable phase. Fe 2 O 3 ) and only a small proportion of magnetic particles (maximum 28% of the iron oxide calculated for Fe 3 O 4 [R. Müller, Glastechn. Ber. Glass Sci. Technol. 71C (1998), 424]).
In [K. Tanaka, Phys. In [K. Tanaka, Phys. Chem Glass 32 1991 16-21] is used e.g. a share in divalent iron in borate glass of about 6% of the total iron reaches what theoretically a Magnetitanteil of about 13% of the total iron oxide equivalent.
Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, Pulver aus einkristallinen magnetischen Eisenoxidpartikeln mit relativ schmaler Korngrößenverteilung im Bereich von 10 bis 120 nm bereitzustellen.task The invention is to powder of monocrystalline magnetic iron oxide particles with relatively narrow particle size distribution in the range of 10 to 120 nm.
These The object is achieved by a method according to claim 1.
According to the invention, a process for the production of nanocrystalline magnetic iron oxide powders is proposed which uses a starting melt composition which has a composition of phase-forming oxides and a glass former B 2 O 3 which is customary for the production of powders via the GKV, in which apart from the magnetic precipitates forms a soluble matrix phase.
Out These compositions are prepared by quenching melt drops produced amorphous flakes, in which then by a temperature treatment targeted magnetic precipitates and by the initial composition certain matrix arise.
Die
Zusammensetzung der Schmelze liegt im Bereich:
Fe2O3 20,0–25,0
mol% Zugabe als Fe2O3
CaO
37,5–41,5
mol% Zugabe als CaCO3
B2O3 36.2–40,0
mol% Zugabe als H3BO3 The composition of the melt is in the range:
Fe 2 O 3 20.0-25.0 mol% addition as Fe 2 O 3
CaO 37.5-41.5 mol% addition as CaCO 3
B 2 O 3 36.2-40.0 mol% addition as H 3 BO 3
The soluble Residual matrix of the starting material is dissolved with acetic acid (concentration 20-100%), so that a material only formed from iron oxide phase, ie. a magnetic powder.
The result of the proposed method is a magnetic powder which, according to XRD studies, contains γ-Fe 2 O 3 (maghemite) as the main phase and furthermore non-magnetic hematite.
IRE 34 (1955) 245 entspricht. The specific saturation magnetization is up to 54 Am 2 kg -1 , which corresponds to a maghemite content of about 83%, assuming the theoretical properties in EW Gorter, Proc. IRE 34 (1955) 245.
Für die Herstellung
eines magnetischen Eisenoxidpulvers, wird folgende Ausgangs-zusammensetzung
gewählt:
CaO
39,1 mol% Zugabe als CaCO3
Fe2O3 24,0 mol% Zugabe
als Fe2O3
B2O3 36,9 mol% Zugabe
als H3BO3 For the preparation of a magnetic iron oxide powder, the following starting composition is chosen:
CaO 39.1 mol% addition as CaCO 3
Fe 2 O 3 24.0 mol% addition as Fe 2 O 3
B 2 O 3 36.9 mol% addition as H 3 BO 3
Die spezifische Oberfläche des Pulvers beträgt 99 m2/g.After melting of the batch and rapid cooling, the resulting glass for the crystallization of the ferrite is, for example, annealed isothermally at 620 ° C for 72 h. Such heat treatment produces the desired magnetic precipitates having a saturation magnetization of 49.8 Am 2 kg-1 and a coercive force of 2.0 kAm -1. The specific surface area of the powder is 99 m 2 / g.
The inventive method provides powder of monocrystalline particles with relatively narrow particle size distribution in the range of 10 to 120 nm, in which the mean grain size and thus set the magnetic relaxation behavior (Neel relaxation time) can be. This is i.a. especially important for applications which magnetic losses should be exploited.
