Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for testing and / or Monitoring fuel cells.
Fuel cells is growing in terms of coverage Of great importance for the need for electrical energy in the future. They are energy converters by means of which chemical Energy direct electrical energy and thermal energy can be generated. In addition to a comparatively high degree of efficiency, there is the great advantage of Fuel cells in that in the production of electrical energy with their help the environment is hardly polluted. Therefore, their development is currently going strong promoted.
The mode of operation of fuel cells is based, in the case of Hydrogen fuel cell, on the reverse of the principle of water electrolysis. Hydrogen- Fuel cells are operated with hydrogen and oxygen as part of the process an electrochemical conversion on an electrode system (anode and Cathode) react to water. This reaction moves inside the Cell positively charged hydrogen ions (protons) to and from the cathode emitted electrons to the anode. Become anode and cathode via electrical Connected to consumers, an electrical current flows between them. Methanol fuel cells work in a comparable way. This is where methanol gets and air as fuel, so that as a reaction product in addition to water Carbon dioxide is created.
The behavior of the fuel cell as a voltage source becomes essential their supply of fuels (e.g. hydrogen and oxygen), their throughput in the cell and the reaction conditions, such as temperature and pressure of the supplied media. Through closures within the For example, a cell or the accumulation of liquid masses can become one Inhibition of the reaction in the cell or by leakage between Anode and cathode arranged electrolyte membrane to deterioration the efficiency of a cell or a stack come from several cells. This, as well as internal resistance or insufficient gas diffusion undesirable losses occur during operation of the cell or it occurs in the May also result in total cell failure.
The cell itself can basically be described by three currents become. These are the mass flow of the supplied fuels and the dissipated reaction products, the electrical current and the heat flow. According to the energy conservation law, the sum of these currents is zero. How it is the case with other components or generators of electrical energy desirable statements about the static and dynamic behavior of the Fuel cells, especially with regard to their aging behavior to get. Through the metrological determination of static and dynamic A fuel cell can test parameters and, if necessary, its structure optimized, but also their aging behavior can be examined or can be in the case of a cell in operation, conclusions about its current Condition with regard to the expected service life or, if applicable take necessary maintenance measures.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a method by means of which fuel cells are easily tested and if necessary can be monitored during their operation in a system. In doing so In particular, it enables the process to make simple statements about to gain the dynamic behavior of the fuel cells on their Basis conclusions on the reliability of the fuel cells and their respective current state of aging can be drawn when they are used can. Furthermore, the task is to carry out a Specify the appropriate procedure.
The task is accomplished by a process with the features of the main claim solved. The proposed arrangement for solving the task is by the Characterized features of the first device-related claim. Advantageous developments and further developments of the invention are given by the respective Subclaims given.
According to that for testing and / or monitoring the fuel cells proposed method, the fuel cell to be examined in its electrical output circuit with an abruptly changing load resistance loaded. At the same time, the time course of the Current and / or voltage in response to the changing load of the Fuel cell detected. It is to be regarded as essential to the invention that according to the proposed procedure, not as is generally the case, the response behavior of the test object, in this case the fuel cell, with regard to input variables that change over time, but based on the Load conditions at the output is considered. The test itself is in With regard to the rapid load changes around a dynamic test, the Results but also conclusions on static or quasi-static quantities like aging behavior or a gradual "poisoning" of the membrane between the anode and the cathode of the cell.
Of course, a load change is in order to obtain meaningful results noteworthy height, i.e. with a leaping change significantly Load resistance required. A load change is therefore preferably carried out, where the load resistance jumps by at least 20% or more changed. Here are what the values of load resistors used, their Number and the way in which they are consecutive (For example, it is also conceivable for the load resistance to exceed a minimum value several intermediate values to a maximum resistance in the manner of a Staircase function) different procedures possible by what different statements about the state or behavior of the cell are available. Advantageously, the fuel cells regarding the variable load in their output circuit, in the spectrum between short circuit and tested idle or almost idle. Is of particular significance thereby a procedural regime, in which in the sudden change of the Load conditions also an immediate transition from short circuit to Idle case and / or vice versa is included.
The method is advantageous for monitoring in use in a simple manner systems can be adapted. Cyclical testing is carried out for this purpose the fuel cell according to the proposed basic inventive procedure. This is done by the consumer load resistance formed briefly to a short circuit, another Load resistance or idle mode switched or the consumer circuit of the respective system briefly separated from the fuel cell and the Fuel cell alternately short-circuited and operated at idle. in this respect in this context will also be followed by a short circuit analysis of the fuel cell concerned. Because the test described takes only a few milliseconds, the energy supply of the Consumer in the event of a short circuit in the cell or in the meantime from the Fuel cell separate consumer in this short period of time, for example be buffered by a capacitor. The method can thus be advantageous be used to monitor systems in operation. The cycle, in which the fuel cell of the respective system expediently repeated testing depends on the type of system and its use. It is conceivable due to the simplicity of the procedure and the result thereof resulting comparatively low requirements technical requirements The process is basically predestined to carry it out, so for monitoring systems equipped with fuel cells required components already during the construction of the respective system or its Manufacturing to be included in this.
The one that is suitable for performing the method or that solves the task Arrangement for testing and / or monitoring fuel cells, in addition to the fuel cell itself, a switching element by means of which the Output circuit of the fuel cell can be connected to different loads can, as well as measuring means for recording the temporal course of current and / or Tension. The arrangement preferably also includes different ones Using the switching means to be connected to the output of the fuel cell Load resistors. According to one to be preferred in practical use Embodiment of the arrangement according to the invention is the Switching means around contactless electronic switches.
In den zugehörigen Zeichnungen zeigen: In the following, the invention is intended to be repeated using an exemplary embodiment are explained in more detail. In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 eine Prinzipdarstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Anordnung Fig. 1 shows a schematic diagram of the arrangement according to the invention
Fig. 2 die Spannungskennlinie einer Brennstoffzelle im Ergebnis der Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens Fig. 2 shows the voltage characteristic of a fuel cell as a result of performing the method according to the invention
Fig. 3 die Einbindung der erfindungsgemäßen Anordnung in ein praktisches System zu Zwecke seiner Überwachung Fig. 3 the integration of the arrangement according to the invention in a practical system for the purpose of its monitoring
In Fig. 1 the arrangement according to the invention is shown in a basic schematic diagram. As can be seen, the fuel cell 1 , following the method according to the invention, is connected in its output circuit with different load resistors 4 , 4 '. For this purpose, a switching means 2 is arranged in the output circuit, which enables an almost instantaneous switchover between a first load resistor and a second load resistor. Switching element 2 is preferably a fast, contactless, electronic switch. During the switching of the load conditions, the time course of the current in the output circuit of the fuel cell 1 or its output voltage is recorded with the aid of measuring devices 3 , 3 '. By evaluating the time profiles of the electrical currents and potentials on the fuel cell, statements about the dynamic behavior of the fuel cell can be obtained, which, when compared with empirical test results, make statements about the state of cell 1 or a stack consisting of several cells 1 possible. For example, knowledge of the state of the electrolyte membrane arranged in the fuel cell 1 between the anode and the cathode or of the possible failure of one or more cells 1 of a stack can be drawn from an efficiency which deteriorates over time. If the test conditions are selected accordingly, these statements can even be made in relation to a stack in relation to the position.
The test of the fuel cell 1 preferably comprises an abrupt switching of the load between short circuit and idling or vice versa. The load resistors 4 , 4 'shown in the figure are not necessary in this case, since the short circuit can be realized by means of a simple line connection and the idling by leaving the output terminals of the fuel cell 1 open.
FIG. 2 shows a possible voltage characteristic curve that occurs in the output circuit when the load changes quickly. In the example shown, there is an abrupt or almost instantaneous switchover from short circuit to a load resistor of defined size, in this case to a load resistor of approximately 10 MOhm, and a subsequent switch back to the short circuit within approximately 2.5 s. As can be seen, the fuel cell 1 or the output voltage responds to the switching ramps given by the sudden load change with a certain delay. In this respect, the fuel cell behaves as a second-order system when changing between the short circuit and the load of 10 MOhm. When switching back to the short circuit, cell 1 behaves like a first order system.

In Fig. 3 the arrangement is shown again in a training for use for monitoring systems in use, equipped with a fuel cell 1 . With this arrangement, the corresponding system can be monitored by performing a short-circuit analysis of the fuel cell in predetermined cycles, for example once an hour or daily. For this purpose, the system consumer (not shown in the figure) is briefly disconnected from the fuel cell and the fuel cell is connected at its output to loads which change suddenly, in extreme cases alternating between short circuit and idling. During the test, the energy supply for consumption, which in normal operation is connected to the fuel cell 1 via the switching means 2 in the uppermost switching position, is buffered by a capacitor 5 . It can be seen that the simple structure of the arrangements permits their universal system in many systems equipped with a fuel cell, for example also in a vehicle operated by means of a fuel cell, the corresponding arrangement components advantageously being included in the system during manufacture.
