Abstract
Description
The invention relates essentially to a method for printing on non-absorbent substrate surfaces such as plastics, plastic-coated Materials, foils, textile fabrics made of synthetic fibers, silk, coated little absorbent paper substrates or the like with water-based, especially pigmented inks, whereby on the substrate surface a color-receiving layer is generated, on which the ink, in particular by means of Drop-on-demand technologies.
- - Gute Tintenaufnahme zur Erzielung hoher Farbdichten;
- - Geringe Diffusion der Tinte im Aufzeichnungsmaterial, um eine hohe Konturenschärfe und ein gutes Auflösungsvermögen zu erzielen;
- - Schnelle Trocknung und gute Wischfestigkeit nach dem Tintenauftrag;
- - Geringe Klebrigkeit, selbst bei hohen Luftfeuchten;
- - Geringe Wasserempfindlichkeit und somit Eignung für Anwendungen im Außenbereich.
- - Good ink absorption to achieve high color densities;
- - Low diffusion of the ink in the recording material in order to achieve high definition and good resolution;
- - Fast drying and good smudge resistance after ink application;
- - Low stickiness, even with high air humidity;
- - Low water sensitivity and therefore suitability for outdoor applications.
To meet these requirements are state of the art different, mostly two or more layers Recording materials known. Usually, a color-receiving layer is applied to a substrate applied, to which the printing ink is then applied. So DE 197 15 187 C2 describes a recording material containing a Has color receiving layer and the color receiving layer in addition a water soluble polymer a crosslinking product epoxy-crosslinkable, carbonic acid-containing mixed mixing products contains an epoxy-functional metal oxide.
A major problem with those known in the art Recording materials and the corresponding procedures for Printing on non-absorbent substrate surfaces is that it is after Formation of the image on the recording material into one Change in the generated image, especially when applying a protective Top layer comes.
The object of the invention is to provide a method which has the disadvantages of the prior art, in particular a Modification of the generated image when applying a protective Top layer, avoids.
This problem is solved by a method which thereby is marked that the formulations of the ink-receptive layer and the ink are matched to each other so that it becomes a chemical crosslinking of the ink-receptive layer comes with the ink.
The crosslinking process can, depending on the choice of chemical Components by using IR, NIR and / or UV radiation inline in the Printing process supported or accelerated.
In previous methods of printing non-absorbent There is only a mechanical connection between substrate surfaces Color receiving layer and ink. A purely mechanical fixation of the However, ink on the ink-receptive layer causes the Adhesion of the ink to the ink-receptive layer is often insufficient and it especially when applying a protective cover layer Changes in the generated image can come.
The substrate surface is preferably coated prior to the application of the Color receiving layer to improve wettability and Adhesion of the following layers pretreated, especially one Subjected to plasma pretreatment. For example, the Plasmatreat process from AGRODYN Hochspannungstechnik GmbH be applied.
It is particularly preferred that on the substrate surface before Application of the ink-receptive layer applied an adhesive layer becomes. The composition of the adhesive layer is primarily from Substrate determined. In particular for the production of the adhesive layer. at least one, preferably several polymers and / or Prepolymers, in particular selected from the group of polyacrylates, melamine resins, Polyurethanes, polyesters, polyvinyl resins, ureas, epoxy resins, Silicone resins used. Are particularly preferred for the production the adhesive layer aqueous, aliphatic polyurethane dispersions used.
The adhesive layer is advantageously applied in such a way that after the Drying gives a layer thickness of 0.5-5 µm, especially 1-3 µm. The application of the adhesive layer can according to known Application technologies such as squeegees, rollers, air brushes, etc. take place. The order by means of ink jet technology is by means of piezo technology (Surface tension: approx. 39 mN / m, viscosity: <15 mPa / sec, pH value: approx. 4-5) possible as ink parameters. The drying of the adhesive layer can by conventional methods, in particular infrared drying, preferably at a temperature of 40-100 ° C, particularly preferably of 60-80 ° C.
By applying such an adhesive layer, for example a uniformly structured substrate surface for the following Fixing layer (ink absorption layer) are created. In addition, the fluctuating crosslink density of the plastic surface compensated become. It is also particularly advantageous that the aforementioned Adhesive layer facilitates the build-up of chemical, especially covalent, Bonds to the pretreated substrate surface is made possible.
For substrate surfaces that have a largely identical crosslink density such as ABS and others can dispense with the adhesive layer become.
untereinander, mindestens teilweise, chemische, insbes. koordinative,
Bindungen ausbilden.
Hybridsysteme, aliphatische PUR-Systeme, Vinylacetat, Ethylen Copolymere,
kationsche vernetzungsfähige Polymere, insbes. Poly-(diallyl)-
(dimethylammonium)-chlorid, Polyacrylate, Vinylamin- und
Vinylpyridinpolymere, kationsche Metalloxid-Slurry, vorzugsweise auf Basis
SiO2/Al2O3.
The main task of the ink receptive layer is to fix the ink as firmly as possible in order to avoid a change in the generated image. As already described above, this is achieved in that the formulations of the color-receiving layer and the ink are coordinated with one another in such a way that the ink-receiving layer is chemically crosslinked with the ink. In order also to achieve good adhesion of the ink-receiving layer to the substrate or to the adhesive layer applied to the substrate, the components of the ink-receiving layer and the components of the substrate or the adhesive layer are preferably matched to one another in such a way that they, at least partially, chemically, in particular. develop coordinative, bonds. It is also preferred that the ink-receiving layer is produced in such a way that it absorbs the solvent component, in particular the water of the ink used. At least one, preferably several, of the following components are preferably used for the composition of the ink-receiving layer:
Crosslinkable, water-based polymer dispersions, hybrid systems, aliphatic PUR systems, vinyl acetate, ethylene copolymers, cationic crosslinkable polymers, in particular poly (diallyl) - (dimethylammonium) chloride, polyacrylates, vinylamine and vinylpyridine polymers, cationic metal oxide slurry, preferably based SiO 2 / Al 2 O 3 . The ink-receiving layer is advantageously applied in such a way that a layer thickness of at least 3 to 5 μm, in particular at least 5 μm, results after drying. It is preferred that the ink-receiving layer is dried after application to the substrate or to the adhesive layer for at least 2 to 10 minutes, preferably at least 10 minutes at a temperature of 40-100 ° C, preferably 60-80 ° C. The ink-receiving layer can be dried by infrared radiation after application to the substrate or the adhesive layer. Another possibility is that the ink-receiving layer is dried by means of circulating air after application to the substrate or the adhesive layer. The application can be done conventionally by casting, knife coating, rolling, etc.
In a particularly preferred method variant for the Composition of the ink at least one, preferably several, of the uses the following components: water-based Polymer dispersions, preferably aliphatic PU dispersions, Polyacrylic dispersions and combinations, especially water-thinnable melamine resins with polyacrylic dispersions; polyvinyl alcohol; Colorants based aqueous pigment dispersions; organic solvents, especially polyols, Glycol ethers and alcohols. The polyvinyl alcohols used serve as Protective colloids to improve dispersion instability. With advantage the ink used contains colorants based on water Pigment dispersions with a defined pigment particle distribution. Preferably point the pigment particles have a size of 0.5-10 µm, in particular 1-5 µm. In a preferred process variant, the ink is after Apply 1-20 minutes, preferably 5-10 minutes, for one Temperature of 30-100 ° C, preferably 50-80 ° C, especially preferably 60 ° C, heat treated.
Accelerate the process of ink and ink crosslinking Fixing layer can by using IR, NIR and / or UV radiation in the Inline process can be achieved.
It is particularly preferred that after the ink has been applied to the Ink receptive layer a top layer on the printed Color receiving layer is applied. With such a top layer certain, for the respective fields of application of the coated substrates required properties such as hardness, degree of gloss, strength, achieved become. It is particularly preferred that the components of the Cover layer with the components of the ink absorption layer or the Print layer (ink) are matched to one another in such a way that they at least partially, chemical, especially covalent, bonds train with each other. This leads to good adhesion of the top layer to the Print layer or on the ink-free areas of the Dye-receiving layer. It is advantageous for the production of the cover layer crosslinkable polymer dispersions, esp. Polyacrylate dispersions, PUR dispersions, preferably with crosslinkable ones Isocyanate groups used.
- - The layers should sufficiently cross-link with the substrate as well as with each other through chemical, especially covalent, bonds.
- - At least one of the layers, in particular the ink-receiving layer, should fix the ink drops and thus the digital image by means of cationic finishing (polymer / metal oxide slurry). This requires matching the formulation of the printing inks to the cationic fixing layer.
