Description
The present invention relates to the field of redox flow accumulators and in particular to the design of an accumulator cell which forms a cell stack when arranged in series and a method of manufacturing such a cell. The invention particularly relates to a cell frame for forming a cell of a redox flow accumulator which has a simple, integral structure and which is advantageous for fully automated, modularized production and assembly.
In the case of cells of a redox flow accumulator with a multi-part design of the half cells, the problem of increased assembly effort is particularly due to the fact that several sub-frame elements each have to be pre-assembled with electrodes or membranes, which have a plurality of sealing elements and sealing surfaces in relation to one another, whereby the tightness of the entire half cell must be ensured. This not only involves significant assembly effort due to the large number of different components, but also high requirements for component tolerances of the numerous sealing surfaces. A multi-part design also poses the problem that the installation space of the cell stack is significantly increased, which reduces the power density of the entire redox flow accumulator. Consequently, efforts are being made to increase the power density and reduce the assembly effort and accordingly the number of components, which can reduce the manufacturing costs of a redox flow accumulator.

According to the invention, a cell is provided for a redox flow accumulator for converting chemical energy into electrical energy and vice versa, with two identical cell frames adjacent to one another, each of which has a membrane arrangement and an electrode. The cell frames are plate-shaped and have a predetermined height from a top side to a bottom side, each cell frame further comprising at least two electrolyte channels, two electrolyte flow channels and a membrane cutout, which completely penetrate the cell frame in the height direction from the bottom side to the top side and which are each formed separately from one another. Furthermore, each cell frame comprises at least two flow sections on the bottom side of the cell frame, which connect the electrolyte channels to the membrane cutout in terms of flow, and at least one contact section on the cell frame. The contact section is designed to accommodate the electrode and guide it to the outside. The membrane cutouts of the two cell frames and the respective electrodes form a closed cell interior, which the membrane arrangement separates into two cavities through which different electrolyte solutions can flow.
The cell structure is advantageously modular due to a high number of identical parts, in particular the identical cell frames, which can significantly reduce the manufacturing costs for a cell of a redox flow accumulator according to the invention. The electrolyte channels and the electrolyte flow channels particularly preferably have the same shape, in particular the same cross-sectional area. The electrolyte channels and the electrolyte flow channels are preferably located opposite each other. Even more preferably, a pair of electrolyte channels and a pair of electrolyte flow channels are located opposite each other in the width direction of the cell frame. The electrolyte channels and the electrolyte flow channels preferably penetrate the cell frame in a rectangular shape. This simplifies the design and manufacture of the cell frame. A modification of the rectangular cross-sectional shape of the electrolyte channels and the electrolyte flow channels in the sense of a production-friendly design is conceivable and possible. Alternatively, the electrolyte channels and the electrolyte flow channels are designed differently, which means that the electrolyte channels and the electrolyte flow channels have different cross-sectional areas.
The flow sections are preferably formed integrally with the electrolyte channels. The flow sections particularly preferably have a rectangular shape. This advantageously means that the electrolyte flow rate in the flow section is not throttled. The flow rate of electrolyte through a cell can thus be increased, thereby increasing the power density of the individual cell or a cell stack. Other geometric shapes of the flow sections are also conceivable, which evenly distribute the electrolyte on the surface of the electrode and the membrane arrangement and supply it to the respective cavity of the cell. In addition, the flow sections can be formed partially or exclusively integrally with the membrane arrangement. This allows a compact design of the redox flow accumulator to be achieved and material to be saved. The electrolyte flow channels and/or the electrolyte channels are preferably connected to the membrane cutout, i.e. the electrolyte flow channels and/or the electrolyte channels are not fluidically separated from one another by the cell frame itself.
The contact section can preferably extend between the electrolyte channels or the electrolyte flow channels. Alternatively, the contact section can extend between an electrolyte channel and an electrolyte flow channel. The contact section can be designed as a recess on the underside of the cell frame that does not penetrate the cell frame. The contact section can thereby support the electrode and guide it outwards. Furthermore, the contact section is preferably designed such that a section of the electrode is received flatly in it. Furthermore, the recess of the contact section can be designed such that the electrode mounted in the contact section is planar with the underside of the cell frame. In addition, the contact section can be separated from the cell frame by a gap on both sides of the contact section. men be partially separated. This allows the contact section to be contacted not flat on the electrode, but the contact section can be gripped, which makes it possible to create a particularly simple, detachable electrical connection using terminals.
Optionally, the cell frame may have a clamping portion positioned opposite the contact portion. The clamping portion may preferably have the same shape as the contact portion, wherein the clamping portion additionally has a gap on both sides that is identical to the gap of the contact portion. The clamping portion preferably has the same thickness as the cell frame, so that the clamping portion is planar with the top and bottom of the cell frame. Alternatively, the clamping portion may have a smaller thickness than the cell frame or the same thickness as the contact portion.
In the case of cell frames arranged directly next to one another, the contact section of a first cell frame and the clamping section of a second cell frame lie adjacent to one another, with the gaps on both sides of the contact section and on both sides of the clamping section preferably being aligned with one another. In this way, the contact section is supported by the adjacent clamping section during contacting and a stable clamping connection is proposed.
The cell interior formed by the membrane arrangement and the electrodes as well as the two cavities separated by the membrane arrangement are fluid-tight in order to fluidically separate the two different electrolytes.
The cavities can particularly preferably have acid-resistant single- or multi-layer nonwovens that conduct the respective electrolyte to the membrane arrangement and to the electrode over a large area. The power density of the cell can be increased by using the nonwovens in the respective cavity. The nonwoven can completely fill a cavity, but take up at least 50% to 80% or particularly preferably 80% to 100% of the volume of a cavity between an electrode and a membrane arrangement. It is conceivable that the nonwoven is arranged in several, preferably parallel nonwoven strips in the cavity. These nonwoven strips can be adjacent to one another or spaced apart from one another. By means of this arrangement, it is possible to form electrolyte channels within the nonwoven that distribute the electrolyte over as much of the entire surface of the membrane and the electrode as possible. However, a one-piece, acid-resistant nonwoven is particularly preferred as a nonwoven mat that has the same shape as the membrane section, in particular a rectangular shape. The fleece mat is thereby advantageously at least partially supported in a form-fitting manner in the lateral direction by the contour of the membrane cutout.
Another advantage is that the cell frames are arranged in such a way that they are rotated relative to one another by 180° in the membrane plane. The electrolyte channels of the first cell frame are fluidically connected to the electrolyte flow channels of the second adjacent cell frame and vice versa. In this way, a cell for a redox flow accumulator can be formed using two identical cell frames. Consequently, a cell stack made up of several cells, e.g. 40, only requires exactly one type of cell frame, which significantly reduces the manufacturing costs and the manufacturing time for a redox flow battery.
It is advantageous if the electrode has a graphite electrode. It is also conceivable that the electrode has a further acid-resistant layer which serves as a carrier, but which has at least one flexible graphite foil on a side facing the membrane arrangement. The electrode preferably has the same shape as the membrane cutout in at least one section, so that the electrode is at least partially supported in a form-fitting manner by the membrane cutout in the lateral direction. In addition, the electrode can have the same shape as the contact section in a further section.
Alternatively, the electrode can comprise a bipolar graphite, for example as a graphite foil, and additionally or alternatively be designed as an inflexible solid body. If the electrode is designed as an inflexible solid body, it does not have to be supported exclusively by the contact section for electrical contacting, but can engage directly with electrical contact elements such as terminals. The graphite foil can have a thickness of between 0.01 mm and 2 mm, preferably between 0.1 mm and 1 mm and even more preferably between 0.2 mm and 0.3 mm.
Preferably, the cell frame has a fastening section on the underside to which the membrane arrangement is fastened in a liquid-tight manner, wherein the fastening section is directly adjacent to the membrane cutout and completely or partially surrounds the membrane cutout. Preferably, the fastening section has the same circumferential shape as the membrane arrangement, so that the fastening section can accommodate the membrane arrangement. The The fastening section is designed such that the membrane arrangement is planar with the underside of the cell frame when fastened. The membrane arrangement is particularly preferably bonded to the fastening section using an adhesive applied over a thin surface in an acid-resistant and liquid-tight manner. Suitable two-component adhesives or one-component adhesives that react chemically with heat, light or moisture, hot melt adhesives, reactive PUR hot melt adhesives or solvent- and water-based adhesives can be used for this purpose.
Alternatively, instead of a membrane arrangement, a membrane can be connected directly to the fastening section in a material-locking and liquid-tight manner, preferably by gluing as described above.
Another advantage is that the membrane arrangement has a membrane and at least one membrane frame element to which the membrane is attached. By using an auxiliary frame such as the membrane frame element, a particularly reliable seal can be achieved between the membrane frame element and the membrane. The membrane frame element and the cell frame can therefore be quickly and automatically joined using a simple material-locking connection, so that the membrane arrangement can be pre-produced as an intermediate product. The cell manufacturing process can thus be accelerated.
The membrane frame element can be designed to fluidically separate the electrolyte flow and/or the electrolyte channels from one another in an assembled state. It is also conceivable that the flow sections are arranged partially or completely in the membrane frame element if the membrane arrangement fluidically separates the electrolyte channels and the electrolyte flow channels.
The membrane may have a thickness between 0.001 mm and 0.5 mm, preferably between 0.01 mm and 0.1 mm, and even more preferably between 0.015 mm and 0.05 mm.
Optionally, the electrode is glued or welded to the contact section in a liquid-tight and/or acid-resistant manner, in particular ultrasonically welded. The electrode is particularly preferably glued to the contact section in a liquid-tight and/or acid-resistant manner using a thinly applied adhesive. Alternatively, the same adhesive can be used to attach the electrode as to attach the membrane assembly to the cell frame. The electrode is thus attached to the contact section of the cell frame for easy electrical contact, which promotes secure automated contacting of the electrode.
In general, it is understood in connection with the present invention that at least two different adhesives from the adhesives listed above can be used for material-bonded adhesive joints. Welded joints are not restricted to a specific method, but include all material-bonded welded joints that are suitable for connecting the elements mentioned.
The cell frame advantageously has an acid-resistant plastic as its material, in particular a thermoplastic, a thermoset, an elastomer or a composite material made of the materials mentioned. In addition, the material can be reinforced with fiber materials. The cell frames are preferably manufactured by means of primary molding, in particular casting, injection molding and 3D printing, or by separating, in particular machining, or a combination thereof. Due to the production-optimized design explained above with only one cell frame type, which can be designed for one or more manufacturing processes, the cell frame can be manufactured in a cost-optimized manner in both small and large quantities.
Each cell frame advantageously has at least one coupling element on the top and bottom, with the coupling element on the bottom of the cell frame being designed to interact in a form-fitting manner with the coupling element on the top of an adjacent cell frame. This makes it possible for the adjacent cell frames to engage with one another in a form-fitting manner in the lateral direction. Furthermore, this facilitates both automated and manual assembly and reduces possible assembly errors, since the cell frames can only be arranged in an interlocking manner in an orientation predetermined by the coupling elements. If the corresponding coupling elements are positioned correctly, they slide into one another in a form-fitting manner, so that the cell frames are arranged flat, without any gap between them, adjacent to one another in the vertical direction.
The at least one coupling element of the upper side and the at least one coupling element of the lower side can additionally extend partially around the membrane cutout on the circumference. Optionally, the at least one coupling element of the lower side is arranged adjacent to the fastening section of the membrane. Furthermore, the coupling element on the underside can be designed as a continuous groove that at least partially surrounds the fastening section and directly borders the flow sections. If the coupling element on the underside is designed as a groove, the coupling element on the upper side can be designed as a continuous projection that partially surrounds the membrane cutout on the circumference in the same way and is designed to engage in the groove on the underside of the adjacent cell frame. If the lower coupling element is designed as a groove and the upper coupling element as a projection, the membrane cutout can also be sealed on the outer circumference in the manner of a labyrinth seal.
According to the arrangement of the adjacent cell frames, the coupling elements on the underside are rotated by 180° relative to the coupling elements on the top side in the membrane plane. This advantageously defines a predetermined positive connection between the adjacent cell frames, as already described above.
Advantageously, the two adjacent cell frames are glued together in a thin, liquid-tight manner. Alternatively, they can be welded together in a liquid-tight manner or welded ultrasonically. This means that the cell frames can be bonded together in a simple and cost-effective, inseparable and liquid-tight manner.
When bonding adjacent cell frames together, the adhesive is preferably applied in a thin layer at least completely around the circumference of the membrane section, in particular in the fastening section, around the electrolyte channels and electrolyte flow channels. This creates a liquid-tight, material-locking connection between the adjacent cell frames, so that the electrolytes are fluidically separated from one another.
The invention further provides a redox flow accumulator with a plurality of adjacent cells as described above, which further comprises two current collector elements which extend longitudinally along the accumulator and which contact the electrodes of the corresponding side in the contact section, two housing covers, wherein a housing cover has at least four connections to the electrolyte channels and electrolyte flow channels, at least two separate electrolyte piping circuits which are connected to the corresponding connections of the housing cover, wherein the electrolyte piping circuits are in fluid communication with the corresponding electrolyte channels and electrolyte flow channels of the cells, at least two electrolyte pumps for circulating the respective electrolyte solution through the electrolyte piping circuit and the plurality of cells, and at least two electrolyte reservoirs which each store differently charged electrolyte solutions. The electrolyte reservoirs are fluidly connected to the corresponding separate electrolyte piping circuit according to the charge of the stored electrolyte solutions.
The current collector elements advantageously contact each electrode of the accumulator. Electrodes with the same polarity are preferably provided on the same side in the longitudinal direction of the accumulator according to the invention. Even more preferably, the electrodes with different polarities are located opposite each other in the longitudinal direction of the accumulator. To contact the electrodes, the current collector element is designed as an elongated strip made of an electrically conductive material. The current collector element also advantageously has contact elements that are designed to contact or clamp a section of the electrode in the contact section and/or the clamping section. The contact elements can be designed in such a way that they engage positively with the contact section, the clamping section and/or the section of the electrode in the contact section. As a result, the majority of the electrodes can be detachably attached to the outside of the redox flow accumulator with the current collector element. In addition, it is possible by means of the current collector elements to electrically contact all cells of the same polarity in a redox flow accumulator by a single, simultaneous contact of the current collector elements. This can further reduce the assembly time of the redox flow accumulator. An additional fastening of the current collector elements using fastening means on at least one cell frame and/or a housing cover to secure the current collector elements is planned.
The housing covers described above can be identical to one another. This increases the number of identical parts in the redox flow accumulator and reduces manufacturing costs.
However, the terminal housing covers are particularly preferably designed differently. A first housing cover optionally has a recess that corresponds to the membrane cutout of the cell frame and has the same shape, wherein the recess has a predetermined height that does not penetrate the housing cover. The recess is preferably designed to accommodate an electrode and/or a nonwoven fabric. Furthermore, the first housing cover advantageously has an acid-resistant nonwoven fabric, in particular a nonwoven mat which is adjacent to a membrane or to a membrane arrangement of an adjacent cell frame, and an electrode and a contact section. The nonwoven fabric can preferably be flushed through by the respective electrolyte. Analogous to the arrangement of the components in the cell frame, the electrode is particularly preferably acid-resistantly bonded at least in the contact section of the first housing cover.
The electrode is at least partially received in the recess and/or the contact section of the first housing cover. The contact section of the first housing cover has the same shape and the same dimensions as the contact section of the cell frame. This also applies to the optional gap on both sides of the contact section.
The nonwoven fabric is placed at least partially on the electrode in a manner analogous to the structure of the cell or cell frame described above. The electrode of the first housing cover and the nonwoven fabric of the first housing cover are particularly preferably the same electrode and the same nonwoven fabric as those used in the adjacent cell frame, thus increasing the number of identical parts and reducing tool and manufacturing costs.
The recess in the first housing cover can be dimensioned such that the nonwoven mat arranged on an electrode in the recess is planar with the underside of the first housing cover. Advantageously, this can form a cavity in the first housing cover, which has a further electrode and, together with the adjacent cell frame, forms a functional galvanic cell.
The first housing cover has at least four connections. Optionally, the first or a second housing cover can have coupling elements that are designed to engage with the coupling elements on the top or bottom of the adjacent cell frame in a form-fitting manner. The use of coupling elements in the area of the housing cover can also be advantageously used to improve the tightness of the redox flow accumulator by means of a type of labyrinth seal, thus ensuring the quality of assembly.
The connections are each connected to the electrolyte channels and electrolyte flow channels which are separate from one another. The connections of the electrolyte channels can have a first distance from one another and the connections of the electrolyte flow channels can have a second distance from one another which is different from the first distance. The connections are preferably each designed as cylindrical connection elements which protrude from the first housing cover, wherein the connection elements are each fluidically connected to the respective electrolyte channels or the electrolyte flow channels by a bore. This arrangement of the electrolyte connections allows the electrolyte piping circuits to be arranged in a simple, non-overlapping manner, which can reduce both the manufacturing costs and the assembly time.
The connection elements can be formed integrally with the first housing cover. However, the connection elements are preferably attached to the first housing cover as a separate component in a liquid-tight, material-locking manner by gluing or vibration welding and preferably have pipe fastening sections in order to fluidically connect the respective electrolyte pipe circuits to them. The pipe fastening sections can have an external thread that can engage with an internal thread of a pipe. As a separate component, the connection element can be attached to the first housing cover particularly easily and inexpensively, and can be manufactured using simple and cost-optimized manufacturing processes.
Both the first housing cover and the second housing cover can each have a clamping section. The first housing cover optionally has a clamping section opposite the contact section. The clamping section is designed to be identical to the clamping section of the cell frame. The second housing cover can additionally have at least one clamping section that corresponds to the contact section of an adjacently arranged cell frame and that is identical to the clamping section of the adjacent cell frame. The first and second housing covers can have first, second, third and fourth coupling elements. The first housing cover then has in particular the same coupling elements on the top side of the cell frame and the second housing cover has in particular the same coupling elements on the bottom side of the cell frame. This advantageously allows the housing covers to be positioned end-on on the cell stack in an orientation predetermined by the coupling elements, which reduces the possibility of assembly errors and creates a stable, positive connection. Furthermore, the coupling elements of the housing covers lead to improved sealing of the housing covers when engaging with the coupling elements of the cell stack through a labyrinth sealing effect.
Optionally, at least two cell frames of the redox flow accumulator are sealed by means of a sealant layer, whereby paints or liquid adhesives are preferably used as sealants, which are advantageously applied, or more precisely sprayed, to at least the peripheral side of at least two cell frames. Optionally, the same adhesives as those used to attach the membrane arrangement or the electrode are used to form the sealant layer. Additionally or alternatively, the sealant layer is at least partially impermeable to UV radiation. This can counteract aging of the cell frame material. Furthermore, this can also be used to attach an outer peripheral seal in a simple manner to connect at least two adjacent cell frames. In addition, the redox flow accumulator can be protected from environmental influences and material aging can be counteracted.
The electrolyte piping circuits preferably comprise acid-resistant plastic or metal pipes. Alternatively, the electrolyte piping circuits may comprise flexible hoses. In both cases, however, connectors made of acid-resistant plastics and/or metals may be provided to form the electrolyte piping circuits. The use of commercially available plastic and/or metal pipes, flexible hoses and connectors reduces manufacturing costs and are available worldwide as standardized components and can be procured inexpensively.
The electrolyte pumps are advantageously arranged within the electrolyte tank in the form of submersible pumps. This arrangement reduces the need to vent the electrolyte piping circuit, making the redox flow accumulator particularly low-maintenance. The circulation of the electrolytes through the redox flow accumulator can thus be stopped without having to vent the electrolyte piping circuits after a certain downtime. This reduces the internal energy consumption of the redox flow accumulator when no electrical power is drawn from or stored in the accumulator.
Vanadium or, particularly preferably, manganese sulfate solutions are preferably used as electrolyte solutions. These electrolyte solutions are particularly inexpensive, readily available and achieve a sufficient power density of the redox flow accumulator. Other electrolyte solutions that achieve a higher or lower power density of the redox flow accumulator are also conceivable.
Optionally, the redox flow accumulator has an inverter that is electrically connected to the electrodes and converts direct current into alternating current or vice versa. Advantageously, this can be used to generate alternating current from the direct current of the cells, which can be fed into a power grid. It would also be conceivable to connect electrical consumers directly to the inverter or directly to the redox flow accumulator.
Furthermore, the redox flow accumulator can have an electrolyte temperature control device that is arranged in the electrolyte piping circuit or connected to one of the electrolyte reservoirs. The electrolyte temperature control device is designed to cool or heat the electrolyte in order to ensure optimal operating conditions for the operation of the accumulator and to increase its power density.
Optionally, at least the cells, the housing covers, the current collector elements and the inverter can be accommodated in a common housing, thereby protecting the redox flow accumulator from environmental influences and external influences.
Furthermore, the redox flow accumulator can optionally have a control device that is set up to control the charging and discharging of the redox flow accumulator by energy generation devices or by electrical consumers, as well as the flow rate of the electrolytes by means of the electrolyte pumps. The control device can have a user interface and/or an interface for data exchange via communication networks. This advantageously provides a redox flow accumulator that can be integrated into existing electrical structures and is self-sufficiently controlled. It is also conceivable that the control device is set up to receive data via a communication network that causes the control device to change the flow rate and temperature of the electrolytes by means of the electrolyte pumps and the electrolyte temperature control device.

- f) providing a second cell frame which is identical to the first cell frame and which was produced according to one of steps a) to e);
- g) rotating the second cell frame by 180° relative to the first cell frame about a second axis of rotation which is perpendicular to the membrane plane when the upper side of the first cell frame or of an uppermost cell frame of the plurality of cell frames already connected to one another is directed upwards;
- h) applying the adhesive circumferentially around at least the membrane cutout, the electrolyte channels, the electrolyte flow channels of the first cell frame or the uppermost cell frame of the plurality of cell frames already connected to one another;
- i) placing and securing the second cell frame onto the first cell frame or the uppermost cell frame of the plurality of cell frames already connected to one another;

- l) Applying an adhesive circumferentially around at least the membrane cutout, the electrolyte channels, the electrolyte flow channels of the first and the uppermost cell frame of the plurality of cell frames already connected to one another and positioning the housing covers respectively on the underside of the first cell frame and on the top side of the uppermost cell frame of the plurality of cell frames already connected to one another.
The adhesive is preferably applied over a thin surface in the fastening section. This advantageously ensures a liquid-tight and stable adhesive bond with the membrane arrangement.
The membrane arrangement is preferably at least partially positively received by the fastening section of the first cell frame.
Optionally, the first cell frame can be temporarily stored until the adhesive has essentially completely cured. Alternatively, the curing time can be shortened depending on the type of adhesive, so that temporary storage is not necessary.
Preferably, a nonwoven fabric can be positioned within the membrane cutout. The nonwoven fabric is preferably at least partially received in a form-fitting manner in the membrane cutout and placed on the membrane arrangement from above.
Optionally, an adhesive can be applied to the contact area. The adhesive is preferably applied in a thin layer over the entire surface of the contact area so that the electrode is bonded to the contact area in a liquid-tight manner.
Preferably, a second nonwoven fabric can be positioned on the electrode within the membrane section. The nonwoven fabric is preferably at least partially received in the membrane section in a form-fitting manner and lies flatly at least partially on the electrode. This results in a simple layer structure that is held in the vertical direction by the membrane arrangement glued to the fastening section.
Particularly preferably, the adhesive is applied as a thin sheet. A liquid-tight, material-tight and stable connection of the first and at least the second cell frame can be ensured in this way.
The second cell frame is placed on the first or uppermost cell frame in such a way that the side edges of the first or the plurality of cell frames already fastened together are aligned with those of the second cell frame. Furthermore, the membrane cutout of the first cell frame is aligned with that of the second cell frame and each further fastened cell frame. The electrolyte channels of the first cell frame and the electrolyte flow channels of the second and each further fastened cell frame, which preferably have the same shape, are aligned with one another when fastened. Similarly, the electrolyte flow channels of the first cell frame are preferably aligned with the electrolyte channels of the second and each further fastened cell frame when fastened.
Depending on the adhesive used, the attached first and second cell frames can optionally be temporarily stored until the adhesive has cured. In addition, the curing time can be shortened depending on the type of adhesive, so that intermediate storage is not required.
The method can further comprise an optional pressure leak test, whereby, for example, the underside of the first cell frame is pressed fluid-tight against a first component of a test device and a second component of a test device is pressed fluid-tight against the top of the at least second cell frame. The interior of the cell sealed in this way is subjected to a relative air pressure of preferably -0.5 bar to +0.5 bar for a predetermined period of time and the pressure profile of the cell interior is compared with a predetermined pressure profile or with a predetermined pressure limit value within a predetermined period of time. Advantageously, a pressure leak test is carried out after each attachment of a further cell frame to the previously attached cell frames. If a drop in pressure is detected, it is known that there must be a leak in the last connection made.
The adhesive is particularly preferably applied and the housing covers are placed one after the other. Alternatively, it is conceivable that the adhesive is first applied to both housing covers before the housing covers are placed. In addition, the adhesive can be applied to the housing covers in such a way that the adhesive, preferably as a thin adhesive strip, is applied circumferentially around the membrane section and circumferentially around the electrolyte channels or the electrolyte flow channels. In the case of different housing covers, the first housing cover, which has the nonwoven fabric and the electrode, must be arranged adjacent to the top of the topmost attached cell frame of the cell stack and the second housing cover accordingly must be arranged adjacent to the bottom of the first cell frame of the cell stack.
With particular advantage, the method according to the invention further comprises the following steps: providing and positioning a first membrane frame element; providing and positioning a membrane on the membrane frame element such that the membrane is surrounded by the membrane frame element and thus forms a membrane arrangement.
Preferably, all side edges of the membrane are surrounded by the membrane frame element. With further advantage, a second membrane frame element, which is identical to the first membrane frame element, can surround the membrane and can be firmly connected to the first membrane frame element, so that the membrane arrangement comprises two membrane frame elements with the membrane in between. The membrane is particularly preferably connected to one and/or both membrane frame elements in a liquid-tight and/or materially bonded manner.
