Stand der TechnikState of the art
When driving, the tank containers should be protected as well as possible against mechanical and/or thermal stress such as shaking, braking or acceleration. This also applies to the protection of the tank containers in the event of an accident. Furthermore, it is desirable to always monitor the tank system in order to detect any malfunctions in the tank system as early as possible. This always presents a challenge when using multiple tank containers.

Within the scope of the present invention, a method and a system for detecting a malfunction in a tank system of a fuel cell system are proposed. In particular, a method according to
- - electrical control of the exhaust valves,
- - determining a pressure build-up gradient in the fuel line arrangement,
- - Providing a target pressure build-up gradient,
- - Carrying out a comparison between the determined pressure build-up gradient and the provided target pressure build-up gradient, and
- - Detecting a malfunction of the valve assembly based on the comparison.
In the context of the present invention, it was found that meaningful conclusions regarding a possible malfunction of the valve arrangement can be drawn in a relatively simple manner based on a detectable pressure build-up gradient in the fuel line arrangement. Based on the comparison according to the invention or on the basis of the comparison according to the invention, a malfunction can be detected, in particular in that non-switching and/or non-opening of an exhaust valve, in particular when starting the fuel cell system, is detected. Accordingly, the malfunction can be understood as meaning that an exhaust valve does not switch and/or does not open. If non-switching and/or non-opening is detected, appropriate countermeasures can be initiated to address any problems that may arise. In particular, operation of the fuel cell system or the tank system can be prevented in which one of the outlet valves is unintentionally closed, as a result of which the associated fuel tank would not or could not be emptied as desired.
As part of the method, predefined measures can also be initiated based on the detected and/or displayed malfunction. This means that the malfunction and/or at least one malfunction is detected at least one predefined measure can be initiated. The measure can be understood to mean issuing a visual and/or acoustic warning signal. The warning signal can be issued acoustically and/or visually for a user of the tank system and/or the fuel cell system, for example in the form of a driver of a vehicle with the fuel cell system.
The malfunction can be detected and then displayed. Representing the malfunction can be understood to mean issuing a warning signal as described above. Furthermore, the representation of the malfunction can be understood as meaning the generation of a warning signal that is stored in a memory from which it can be read by a specialist, for example when inspecting the tank system. Based on the warning signal read out, conclusions can be drawn about a malfunction that may have occurred or is still present. Measures can then be taken to at least avoid the malfunction in the future.
In a method according to the invention, the exhaust valves can all be electrically controlled simultaneously or essentially simultaneously. In particular, the outlet valves can be controlled in parallel when the fuel cell system is started or the fuel cell system is operating. The electrical activation can be understood to mean that the outlet valves, if possible, are activated into a release state for guiding the fuel from the respective fuel tank into the fuel line arrangement.
The pressure build-up gradient or at least one pressure build-up gradient is preferably determined after the outlet valves have been electrically activated, in particular when the fuel cell system is started. The pressure build-up gradient is preferably determined in a high-pressure line section of the fuel line arrangement. The pressure build-up gradient is preferably determined in each case by pressure measurements and a pressure evaluation of a line pressure in the fuel line arrangement over time. Determining the pressure build-up gradient can therefore be carried out using suitable measuring sensors and a computing unit that is in signal connection with the measuring sensors. The measuring sensor system can have at least one pressure sensor for determining the pressure build-up gradient.
The comparison according to the invention between the determined pressure build-up gradient and the setpoint pressure build-up gradient provided is carried out in particular when no pressure build-up is measured in a medium-pressure line section of the fuel line arrangement, in which the gas pressure is at least on average lower than in the high-pressure line section, or by a No pressure build-up can be detected. In this way, the tightness of a pressure regulator in the fuel line arrangement can be checked to ensure that the mass flow through the respective outlet valve was only effective for building up pressure in the high-pressure line section.
The fact that the target pressure build-up gradient is provided can be understood to mean that the target pressure build-up gradient can be read from a memory and thereby made available for the comparison or can first be calculated and only then made available for the comparison. This means that providing can also be understood as determining and/or calculating the target pressure build-up gradient.
The outlet valves can be understood to mean tank valves, which are each installed directly or essentially directly on the fuel tanks. The fuel tanks are preferably hydrogen tanks. Detecting and possibly displaying a malfunction of the valve arrangement based on the comparison can be understood to mean that the at least one malfunction can be detected and displayed based on the comparison or a comparison result. This means that the comparison result can be evaluated accordingly to detect and display the malfunction and/or taken into account in a suitable calculation. The method can be carried out in particular to detect a malfunction of a valve arrangement in a fuel cell system of a vehicle, in particular during operation of the fuel cell system in the vehicle.
The process steps according to the invention do not have to be carried out in the order specified. Individual process steps can also be carried out in a different order and/or simultaneously. For example, it is possible that the target pressure build-up gradient is first provided and/or calculated and only then is the actual pressure build-up gradient determined.
If, for example, it is determined during the comparison that the determined pressure build-up gradient is smaller than the target pressure build-up gradient by a predefined value, it can be concluded that there is a malfunction, in particular that at least one of the outlet valves is not switching and/or is not opening. As part of the For comparison, for example, a difference between the target pressure build-up gradient and the determined pressure build-up gradient can be calculated. This difference can be compared with a predefined threshold and/or a reference difference. If the difference is greater than the predefined threshold value or the reference difference, it can be concluded that there is a malfunction as described above.
The method can be carried out not only to detect a malfunction of a valve arrangement in a tank system for a fuel cell system, but in principle also for an alternative tank system of a chemical and/or electrochemical energy converter.
According to a further embodiment of the present invention, it is possible for the target pressure build-up gradient to be calculated in a method depending on a current tank pressure before the outlet valves are electrically activated and made available for comparison. In this way, the target pressure build-up gradient is calculated depending on the current operating state and/or functional state of the tank system. Consequently, the target pressure build-up gradient can always be provided relatively accurately in different operating and/or functional states. The fact that the target pressure build-up gradient is calculated depending on a current tank pressure before the outlet valves are electrically activated can be understood to mean that the current tank pressure is first determined, in particular with suitable sensors, and the electrical outlet valves can then be activated. The target pressure build-up gradient can now be calculated using the current tank pressure and made available or used for the comparison. The calculations described here are preferably carried out using a computing unit, which can, for example, be part of a control device, in particular a vehicle control device. Nevertheless, the computing unit or part of the computing unit can also be made available decentrally, for example in a cloud, and used to calculate the target pressure build-up gradient. The current tank pressure can be understood to mean a tank pressure that is determined as close as possible before the electrical activation of the exhaust valves and/or as close as possible after the start of operation of the fuel cell system. The current tank pressure can be calculated based on a line pressure that is determined during a previous operation of the fuel cell system, i.e. before the outlet valves are electrically activated in a subsequent operation of the fuel cell system. Based on the line pressure from the previous operation, a previous tank pressure can be determined, which, in order to calculate the current tank pressure, can be corrected or changed based on determined temperature differences between the two operations in the fuel tanks. In this way, the current tank pressure can be determined without a pressure sensor in the fuel tanks. The respective tank pressure can also be determined by a pressure sensor in the respective fuel tank.
It can be of further advantage if, in a method according to the invention, the target pressure build-up gradient is calculated as a function of a current line pressure in the fuel line arrangement and made available for comparison. In this way, too, the target pressure build-up gradient can be calculated depending on the operating state and/or functional state of the tank system. Consequently, the target pressure build-up gradient can always be provided relatively precisely in different operating and/or functional states of the fuel cell system. The fact that the target pressure build-up gradient is calculated depending on the current line pressure can be understood to mean that the current line pressure is determined using suitable sensors and the target pressure build-up gradient is then calculated using the determined line pressure. The current line pressure is determined in particular after the outlet valves have been electrically activated.
Furthermore, it is possible that in a method according to the present invention the target pressure build-up gradient is calculated depending on a volume value of a volume in the fuel line arrangement and made available for comparison. This procedure helps in calculating a target pressure build-up gradient that is as accurate as possible or in calculating a target pressure build-up gradient that is as close as possible to a desired ideal target pressure build-up gradient. The volume value can correspond to a volume defined by the fuel line arrangement. The volume value preferably corresponds to a volume of a high-pressure line section of the fuel line arrangement. In experiments within the scope of the present invention, it has further proven to be advantageous if, in a method, the target pressure build-up gradient is calculated depending on a number of electrically controlled outlet valves and made available for comparison. Using this system-specific parameter, the target pressure build-up gradient can also be calculated relatively accurately or as desired in a simple manner. Alternatively or additionally, a throttling behavior of the exhaust valves can also be determined and used to calculate the target pressure build-up gradient.
In addition, with a method according to the present invention it is possible that the method steps essential to the invention are carried out repeatedly when a malfunction is detected and the exhaust valves are electrically controlled with a higher current than before the malfunction was detected. This means that if a malfunction is detected, a replacement reaction can be carried out, so to speak, for a repeated attempt to open the exhaust valves with an increased starting current. Depending on whether opening is successful or not, the type and/or severity of the malfunction can be determined. This means that the type and/or severity of the malfunction can be detected and displayed even more precisely. For repeated opening attempts, the outlet valves can be controlled or energized accordingly with a maximum permissible starting current.
